Oh boy

more Jazz for teenagers

so what's jazz not for teenagers?

some washed up black guy from the 70s making shitty rehashed jazz music? is the only 'authentic' jazz music what already exists?

get out of this board

>some washed up black guy from the 70s making shitty rehashed jazz music?
Kamasi is shit too, you fucking teen newtrip.

You don't know shit about jazz.

cringe, you should leave too
dumbo

cool I'll check it later

man that cover is fucked

go listen to giant steps user :)

>huur look at me ima gurll xdd
>duur everything is jazz duuude
>heeerp old shitttt

Yea the album art is pretty shit tho, but can't wait for Confession Pt. II

ah shit forgot to remove the name, not OP obviously

nice, you offered not a single current or new artist that could be considered "not jazz for teenagers"

I'm waiting for someone to expand on this beyond a bias against popular young jazz artists who happen to have had pitchfork reviews made about them

Anyone who likes BBNG, rate the following artists out of 10:

>Dave Holland
>Steve Lehman
>Vijay Iyer
>Jack DeJohnette
>Maria Schneider

I'll wait.

>Dave Holland
your mom/10

>Steve Lehman
your mom/10

>Vijay Iyer
your mom/10

>Jack DeJohnette
your mom/10

>Maria Schneider
your mom/10

done

can someone explain to me what's good about bbng? Would be nice if someone could also link me to a good song of theirs. I've heard some by them but i just dont understand. sounded like noise to me

>trying to play the intellectual superiority card
>ratings out of 10
don't quit your day job

BBNG FAN FALSEFLAGGER

GET OUT

What are your thoughts on them?
hey mr. patrician you never replied to are you just a fucking pathetic loser?

i make no claims to being a jazz patrician and i have only listened to a handful of jazz albums (some new, some old), and I admit I have not listened to the works of those musicians/composers you listed

what i'm waiting for (from you or anyone) are some examples of young jazz musicians (under 30) who wouldn't be automatically dismissed as "jazz for teenagers"

>what i'm waiting for (from you or anyone) are some examples of young jazz musicians (under 30) who wouldn't be automatically dismissed as "jazz for teenagers"
Joey Alexander
Tigran Hamaysan

Wow that was hard.

if the rest of the jazz fans in this thread can support your claims then i will concede

while we wait, what about these musicians music makes it 'above' a teenager listening demographic?

>while we wait, what about these musicians music makes it 'above' a teenager listening demographic?
They're talented.
They're good composers/arrangers and great soloists, and their ensembles all have very talented people in them.
It's not my fault you don't know fucking jazz.

>if the rest of the jazz fans in this thread can support your claims then i will concede
So let me get this straight

You are so uncaring about music and jazz in particular that you can't even google some fucking names?
Fuck off newtrip.

Isn't Joey Alexander like... 12?

Yeah, your point?

Nothing, i'm just surprised he is actually good enough to be put in your list, I thought he was one of those "good for their age" kids.
I did like his My Favourite Things though.

Holy shit is that what they look like?

Fucking nerds. God damn.

Nah man his Giant Steps is enough for me to believe the hype. Definitely worth every bit.

Shame what happened at the Grammys though, he got used by Common/the RIAA to try and shill against free streaming.

He's only playing standards at the moment, right?
About the Grammys, I didn't watch them honestly, what happened did he give some awkward speech?

>He's only playing standards at the moment, right?
Yeah but like you said, he's 12. If he was writing charts then it'd be mass hysteria.
>what happened did he give some awkward speech?
Worse.

Never been a BBNG fan but the cover art is ridiculously good and the Colin Stetson featuring made me interested

Yeah I guess. The video isn't working for some reason.

I really dig the cover art too, dont get why all the hate. Stetson i GOAT

are you outside of the US? might be region locked
They had him solo for a minute and then said "Think of the artists...especially this child we're using for financial gain
BBNG are terrible jazz musicians.

Vijay has like 45 years, whats your point exactly?

What's yours? I posted good jazz. What's your problem?

Yeah I am... The description is enough I guess, sound terrible.

2016 memejazz

my body is ready

I can't wait for endless threads about this album made by people who haven't ever listened to any other contemporary jazz

Tigran is pretty great, but BBNG is good to. Just because they've gotten popular doesn't mean they suck.

>soundcloud kids make jazz

yikes ill pass

It's actually fairly unusual for jazz musicians to gain widespread acclaim and popularity before they are 30. It happens yes, but there's a reason why most of today's celebrated and talked about jazz musicians are older. It's a genre that celebrates maturity and dedication to the music that comes from years of hard work.

Consider the possibility that maybe the reason why most of the popular young jazz musicians you can think of are only popular due to clever marketing and gimmicks rather than their musicianship or talent.

They literally were dropped from the college because they weren't talented enough

I considered saying this but I could name two so I did. But you're more correct.
