Crystal Castles

What's your opinion on Crystal Castles? I think Crystal Castles (2010) is their mangun opus as of yet. With the departure of Alice from the band my hopes have diminished, although Edith might be a pleasant surprise.

i've only listened to 1 and 2, but I really hated both. alice was the only reason anyone gave a shit about them, anyway

>mangun opus

Great fucking band who has a really original sound. Also were fantastic live.

Ethan was always the true talent behind CC. She was a beast live, but that was all she was good for.

Imo (II) was the pinnacle of their work. The perfect blend of the later witchouse stuff from (III) with the dance-y/chiptune stuff from (I). Plus it was abrasive and consistent all the way through. It's a close call between (I) and (II) though. (I) is just a bit overlong imo.

(III) is underrated but not on the level of the others.

Whatever they do I hope they don't stay in the iii style, but the post Alice songs make it seem like they will. Frankly I'm more excited about her album, though it could turn out complete shite.

This band got me back into electronic

ok but (III) is the best
also alice solo with be better than (IV)

>(III) is the best
I think you're incredibly wrong but I don't know how you make counter arguments about music.
>alice solo with be better than (IV)
What makes you think that?

saw them in 2009. alice did her classic drunk cunt impersonation the entire set but i was too young and excited to be seeing them to care. I don't find anything "bad" that happened to her to be a surprise.

anyway i think 3 is lowkey the best track for track album but stand out tracks on 1 and 2 are better song vs song than anything on 3

i think II is their magnum opos actually, very versatile album

stillbirth is better than either of those (IV) tracks

I've read that the reason the Kimmel performance of Intimate was cut short was because Alice took out her tampon and thew it into the audience. Does anyone know if this is true?
That's true.

Shit. If you like them you should feel bad.

>Unique/10
I generally enjoy them but haven't payed much attention to them in a few years I figured they were done. Very surprised Alice left.

I don't like them desu. I do like the video game Crystal Castles for the Atari 2600 tho. That game is fucking brilliant.

bump

CC are one of the first bands i found that were genuinely doing something unique in music

Cool debut but everything else they made was pretty shit. Actually that song ft. Robert Smith that played on the radio was okay too.

I love some of their songs but their albums are really inconsistent.

What? The 2600 port is crap. The arcade version's the way to go.

I feel that. I is way too choppy in how it goes between styles, II flowed nicely.

I work at a Sears in a mall, and a Crystal Castles song is on the radio every day. I guess that's what I think of them.

What song? What station?

I think Crimewave. I always forget. It's on the Sears radio, whatever they decide to pay for.

I guess there was a CC fan in Sears management who wanted to give them someone else's money lol.

where is alice now

what happened between her and ethan?

She didn't like working with him. There's been implications of emotional abuse, but she hasn't named Ethan when talking about that.

For Ethan's part he posted some passive aggressive things on fb and twitter after she left about how he he wished her luck but she wasn't important for the band, but deleted them fairly quickly.

If you search the forum on crystalcastles.com you should be able to find the details.

I really enjoy 3 honestly.

Oh and she also said that some feminist themed festival or something shouldn't book him because he wasn't appropriate for such an event.

>mangun opus

itt
>user says magnum opus
>everything else is now invalidated and a potentially great cc thread is now fucked.
One of the few bands where I can happily say every record is great and III is one of the most sonically consistent records in history. Every song on 3 manages to sound similar but different at the perfect frequency.

Personally I think the songs go too far in the being similar direction, but the cohesion is definitely the best part of III for me. It's good music to listen to while studying.
