Does anybody here play jazz?

What instrument do you play and what are you studying/practicing/transcribing? How long have you been playing?

I play trumpet but no jazz im in marching band.

I play trumpet. We studied this in theory the other day. Lots of leaps and parallels, no cadences either. I just transcribed Randy Brecker's solo on Gregory is Here. I'm not practicing right now because it's the end of the semester; not really an excuse but whatever. I used to play classical at SFCM but I transferred somewhere else. I've really only been playing jazz for a year, save for stints in high school. I've been playing trumpet since I was 11.

Can you post that man? I should listen to more of Randy Brecker. What modern trumpet players do you like?

Play guitar, going to college for jazz in september.

Been playing 7 1/2 years now, will be 8 in september.

Jazz guitar, learning shit from a real book. Justinguitar also has some useful stuff. Only been on jazz for a few months.

Play piano. Just working on interesting phrasing and trying to keep melodic continuity in solos.

give me a sec

1/2

Just gave it a quick run, sounds great

there are a couple of erratas. its more or less in concert Db, but key areas change. this is written for trumpet.

i like old(er) shit to be honest. im picky about trumpet players but as far as modern shit goes i like robert glasper, pat metheny, chris potter.

Nice thanks.

What about you? I'm guessing trumpet as well?

Yep. I'm not very good at jazz though.

I play the Saxophone, mostly classical though, but I did play first Tenor in my school's Jazz Band

Me either. Keep at it, though, user.

I play a little.

Is that a Mark VI?

It is.

I bought it 15 years ago for $2,700.

Had it appraised recently? It's probably worth a lot more than that now yeah?

well, it's a super early one from 1954, so that makes it somewhat more desirable. It's probably in the $5,000 - $6,000 range these days... maybe more?

note the rare early logo on the octave key
