Odd signatures are really fun (here's my attempt for some 5/4 drums soundcloud.com/envig/54-trap-beat/s-ifzcc). Anyway, I think you should be more careful with distortions. Distortions are nice in moderate amounts, but the overtones in your track are much too harsh. My advice is that you try and manipulate the overtones more precisely using various MB/dynamic effects (distortion, compression, de-esser, EQ and all that good stuff), to get that dark feel. Also the bass element is mixed far too loud in the mix. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I get what you're saying about the distortion and I'll look into ways of fine-tuning it. By "bass element" do you mean the low sounds overall or just the distorted bass sound?

Also, cool beat. I love 5/4 time and it's cool to hear it applied to trap drums like that.

Oh shit, this is like if Smashing Pumpkins did shrooms all day. This shit is awesome, though. The tone and production of the vocals and instruments even sounds 90's.
This is some chill ass music. Even without lyrics, it is some stuff just to sit back and smoke to.
Kinda reminds me of something I'd hear in that old game Viewtiful Joe.
All I can say is that the sample in the beginning of Goodnight Redlight was funny as fuck.
The greatest feeling in the world was really good. The lyrics in it sound almost real to the actual lifestyle you have, notwithstanding how the majority of the mainstream rap industry seems so dull and repetitive.

It's hard to tell, as there is a bunch of overlaps in frequency. On my headphones I hear some strong resonances in the low, to low-mids.

Also, after re-listening to the track, I have another comment relating to the imaging. Basically the low-freq stereo field is too wide, which can be nauseating. Frequencies around and below ~80-120 Hz are preferably mixed as mono or close to mono (relating to how they are perceived as omnidirectional in most physical environments).

saw bass doesn't sound at home until a minute in. the filtered bew bew ps1 demo one sounding lead that comes in could be mixed lower. i also think peoples brains have a way of switching off when they hear old audio like that because it's such a trip hop/ambient thing but that's a different story.

the bass notes you chose are so playful to me that they lack an emotion or vibe. soap isn't really enough to bring me into it. i think you should make the aesthetic on your sound cloud more congruent, even if you have to go down that annoying pc music vapour art avenue, your followers will triple if your sc looks less scrambled. if soap is the vibe, have pictures of soap. just my advice

Well user that's some fucking solid advice right there. Nice one man. I'm a little unsure on the "bew bew ps1" synth that you're talking about though desu. Other than that, I can totally take that on board.

And to be honest, the soap thing was just something that came to me when tagging that upload. Not necessarily something I go for as a usual.My SC is kinda anything goes, but I'm fairly new to producing so I'm still finding my final groove, y'know?

1.18 this kind of synth was all over the playstation 1's demo music back in the day as groups like the prodigy using a fuckton of these downward filters were really big. it also gave an aquatic vibe to shit like it does to your song I guess.

it could just go down a db or two till it sits right.

and yeah, on my sound cloud I did the same thing for the first year or so and in ways i'm still doing it. the more tracks you put out of different styles and the more mistakes you make, the better.

Ahh i didn't realise that was the case. I was obsessed with ps1 demos when I was a kid but it's been too long for me to remember the music.
