What is the second best headphone behind the ma900?

...

Cared to just the MA900, the Sennheiser HD600 is second to last.

>tfw people buy catphones instead of having cat and headphones

This cat is crazy about headphones. You might even say it's nyandere for them.

How good are the stax lambdas? What energizer is best for them?

go back to head-fi faggot

should I buy ZMF classics?

rinchoi.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/stax-sr-lambda-signature-legend-revised.html
kenrockwell.com/audio/stax/sr-lambda-pro.htm

>energizer

dedicated transistor amplifier like 252S/323S type. Be careful with third party transformer boxes.

For me its the SHP9500S

>HD600
Pure, undistilled fidelity. Unvarnished audio bliss. Audio pours from the hd600 like honeydew vine water from God's own chalice.

You make it sound like speakers and headphones are just expensive magic mushrooms.

>undistilled
Er, distilled.

They're good

How is it through the Fostex amp?

Weren't you that fat guy? LOL!

I bought the fiio e10k, popped it in and can barely tell the difference

Fuck this gay earth

into my desktop pc i mean

I have sennheiser hd280s

why did you buy it in the first place?

there is no difference in amps, audiophool

Need some buying advice dear anons, looking for some closed-back phones, considering the M50x.

>Budget
Prefer under 300€.

>Location
Germanistan.

>Source
Aiming to use at work on a Filo E10 from my laptop. But may also consider using at home on my Magni/Modi stack (and bring my DT-770's to work).

>Type of headphone
Over-ear.

>Open or closed
Closed.

>Comfort level
Gonna most likely be wearing them for hours per day at work, so gotta be comfy.

>Sound signature
Don't mind too much, would prefer something with a bit more bass than the DT-770's though.

>Past headphones
DT-770, HD 598. I like the sound of the latter a bit more, but need closed-back ones in the office.

Ideally my new pair would be a closed and sound similar to the 598's, or a more bassy DT-770. I find both pretty comfy to wear.

Detatchable cable would be a bonus.

takstar pro82 perhaps?

Because "muh dac" is supposed to improve things

We need more of these types of posts to be honest. We have too many people running around pretending like buying a new DAC and amplifier is going to be a night and day difference in terms of audio quality and that it is necessary to spend $200 alone on the Schiit stack to possibly enjoy those HD 600 headphones, which were probably themselves purchased for less than $200.

It's a total con. DAC's are one tiny step above cables in terms of sonic improvements. DAC "technology" has essentially peaked once we figured out how to use 1-bit transformations to perfectly to a human ear reproduce analog music from the digital realm. There are zero sonic benefits to buying a stand alone DAC these days. Zero. There are a handful of convenience benefits - like combinations of inputs and outputs (AES, balanced, TOSLINK, SPDIF, etc.) - but that's it.

If DACs are one tiny step above cables in terms of sonic impact, amplifiers are the same tiny step above DACs. Again, there are far too many people running around screaming about "night and day" differences when that is absurd. The biggest reason to buy an amplifier is that your headphones don't get loud enough. If you can listen at acceptable volumes with your source amplifier (ie, phone) at or below 80% of volume, there is a 99% chance your headphones are being fully powered to their full potential.

We really need to stop this nonsense about DACs and amplifiers being absolutely required purchases when buying high end headphones. It is absurd, lacks any kind of rationality, and makes the entire hobby look ridiculous. I am sure this fact alone and the constant refusal to accept these things as facts turns off many people.

The one caveat to the above is internal noise issues.

Sorry, I () thought that said "dacphones", not >catphones.

Do you need a DAC short quiz

>Is your source buzzing/popping/crackling during playback or without anything playing?
>Yes
Get a DAC suitable for your headphones impedance
>No
Don't get a DAC

Situation 2

>Are your headphones too quiet?
>Yes
Get an AMP+DAC combo
>No
Don't get an AMP+DAC combo

Hey, my ath-ad900 I noticed has issues with crackling noises at high volumes. Would a dac help with that? I use onboard.
>tfw no dacphones

Dacphones, makes you think. Why isn't there a "wireless" headset that stores music via SD card?

They should make mods for popular cans, some weird SD card attachment on the side like a bluetooth attachment. Fuck a pmp.

How good is the beyerdynamic custom pro? I initially wanted the 598 but I didn't want open cans when I watch my videos.

I actually had static noise coming from my PC, so an amp with a separate power supply eliminated it.

SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH HER FEET

I wish I could take one of you headphone anime cuties and fuck your brains out while you squirm in my arms yelling onee chan.

>crackling noises at high volumes

i also have this problem with this

Daily reminder that Takstar Pro 82 and HI 2050 are the only headphones you will ever need and you are wasting your money.

>HI 2050
Chinkshits shamelessly copied Beyerdynamic.

You mean the Fidelio X2s right?

You seem knowledgeable about Beyerdynamics. Any help here

Would 2.5x gain have more headroom than 3.3x?

Just get beyer custom studio ;3
literally dt770 with adjustable bass and removable cable

Se 215 or rha ma750?

Get the Custom Studio, not the Custom One Pro.

Her feet are fucking backwards

So your little toe is bigger than your big toe... hm

Her little toe is on the inside of her foot.

how did I miss this. moreover how did the artist miss this too

Whoa, that's freaky

One of these days I'm going to go through every single /hpg/ thread in existence and create a folder for headphone feet girl, unless someone beat me to it and wants to share.

It seems like headphones with behind the neck headbands are almost never discussed. What brands produce them? Are there any with good quality/price?

Topping NX4 DSD on massdrop. Good idea bad idea?

ebay.com/itm/Authentic-Sennheiser-Momentum-Brown-Over-Ear-Headphones-Fair-Shape/122835249528

is this a legit listing, is he selling those things for 40 buckos?

better than hd600?

...

Just bought the Seinheiser 206, are they good?

should I give this a shot?

im new to this, could you explain me how this improves the additive performance of our sound?

Why not. Lundahl make great transformers.
Be nice to build a 120v to 100v stepdown Transformer with Lundahl or Cine-Mag

>could you explain me how this improves
it doesn't, it's an adapter so you can run electrostatic headphones off a normal amplifier instead of buying a specialized unit to run them
I-I don't know, it makes me nervous because it seems so simple

Those transformers probably aren’t cheap.
I’ve seen those old Stax units for not much money on eBay etc.

Also those Jensen caps won’t be inexpensive either.

...

I don't see a reason to go with audiophile transformers and caps.

Then don’t?

THEY ACTUALLY ENGRAVED THIS SHIT FOR ME AHAHAHAHA THE MADMEN

Who sells those Stax female connector?

OH NONONONONONONO
JASON ON SUICIDE WATCH

headamp

It sure who else make paper in oil caps these days? Otherwise industrial caps won’t have as tight tolerances, most are +/-5-10% where “audiophile” caps will be +/-1% or something along those lines

can you email this to schiit customer support asking for help? or telling them how great and well measuring their product is

what a shitty amp

Bought the hd58X jubilee instead of the hd6XX. How badly did I fuck up?

i-i-ts sh-

Its not even an amp you fucking dingus. Schiit shill is so butthurt he can't even tell the difference between a dac and an amp

Ah thanks. If you build them you should post updates here.

I'm really considering it, I was thinking of powering them with the balanced output from this. I already have a stax female mount
massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-thx-aaa-789-linear-amplifier
people have had success finding and using cheapo transformers
jazzman-esl-page.blogspot.com/2010/01/update-new-toroidal-step-up.html

Have you researched what transformers Stax used to use? I wonder what transformers Woo uses in the WEE, it’s not exactly cheap but I figure it would cost considerably more with cine-mag or lundhal.

Thanks for that link too, very good info to have.

I'm thinking about buying these for my HD600. My earpads are now over 2 years old and I need to replace them with something. It's either the OEM or this. These seem to be more premium than OEM.

Anyone picked up a pair?

Are the Fidelio X2s a direct upgrade from the SHP9500s

it's an upgrade but it's got a different sound. shp9500 -> AKG -> HD800/STAX

Ty, I'm gonna buy them, well its those vs the k712 pros but I'm leaning towards them

I got the hybrids for my 650's, they're memory foam so they're a little stiffer than oem but they will last way longer. They're pretty comfortable though, and I couldn't tell a huge sound difference, if I had two pairs of headphones, one with new oem pads and one with dekonis I might pick up on some very subtle sound differences, maybe. If you pick up a pair I reccommend getting fenestrated, velour or hybrid so that sound can still sink into the pads like they do with oem. Dekoni also has FR graphs for the hd600 comparing each of their pads to stock pads if you want to visually see the difference. One thing I like about dekoni is that they don't pretend changing the pads doesn't change the sound and they are willing to show what the differences are themselves.

The X2s have significantly better bass response. They don't "leak" sound as much, they clamp harder so they take some time getting used to. I think they sound phenomenal.

Is HD660s the new HD600 like Zeos claims?

no. they are about the same price as an SRS-3100. no reason to buy them. he claims they sound good because they are kinda like stax. just buy stax.

Hmm, are the people shilling HD600s also Zeos shills? This explains a lot.

Thanks user! Do they touch your earlobes by any chance? I'd like to find a pair of earpads that don't touch them.

Another one that's on my list are another non-OEM ones for HD650/600 that are much roomier inside. But they're more expensive. See pic.

HD600 > HD660 > HD650

Resident 660s owner here. They definitely have improved soundstage and imaging although zeos blows it way out of proportion, I was not absolutely blown away by it like he seems to be. I've never heard Stax before so no comment on that comparison. Bass is slightly more present but still not super prominent keeping in line with previous headphones. They are also slightly brighter, I think sennheiser was trying to get rid of the sennheiser "veil" stigma. They're brighter but they're not beyerdynamic bright or anything. Personally I think this a more well rounded headphone than the 600.

My ears fit completely inside them easily but yeah I guess my earlobes touch the bottom of the inside of the pad

best 50 $ or less headphone?

>touch the bottom
not that big of an issue for me. my biggest issue when they touch the top of the earlobes.
thanks user!

How hard is to build a bottlehead crack if i have no soldering experience?

you don't need to have soldering experience

Directions are VERY detailed, photos for almost each step. They detail down to the exact length of wire to cut, and how much to strip housing. Best instructions.

Look what the post man just delivered

Is it really worth it?
I have the hd6xx but only ss amps

no, audio is not worth it past a certain point. it will be fun to build, look nice, and you may enjoy the way it sounds. so yeah it's "worth it" but it's not a good use of money so no.

>They're brighter
diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-s-se/hd660s/
Not supported by measurements whatsoever. Particularly of note their loss of energy between 2-5khz, a region that will be much more noticed in music than upper treble differences.
>The HD660S has the ‘warmth’ of the HD650 but less clarity/presence and slightly less treble.
Placebo and, possibly in your case old used earpads that have changed the profile of the sound are hell of drugs.
Remember kids, only compare headphones using brand new earpads.

Yeah it’s great with my hd650, do Speedball mod too after building it.
