This thread is about the appreciation of whorology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
> Am looking into getting a Spring Drive soon. But a thought I had is that while the movement and technology is great, I wonder about the long term life and serviceability of this style of movement. Specifically the electronic components I think it's fair to say no one truly knows for sure at this point, but 8 can tell you anecdotally as a collector of electric movements of various kinds from the 60s-80s, in my experience, the electrical parts are the last to go -either they failed in the first two years, or they last forever. All the issues I've ever had with 10+ year old electric watches have been mechanical problems, which don't really present any kind of service problems beyond what you'd find in a traditional mechanical.
Thanks quartz collector user. One market I don't think I could ever delve into is vintage lcd digital quartz watches. Sounds like a huge gamble. Thanks. Yea and I forgot about the 50 year thing. I suppose just like any movement once parts dry up after production servicing comes at a cost. And the only reason I asked in the first place is I know Rolex Oysterquartz are quite a cost to service.

Trying out a new simple black unpadded leather strap with my 5s21-7a10, to replace the heavily worn original gray strap that was in pretty rough condition. Still pretty stiff though.
I saw the solar PADI version of the OP pic in a Seiko outlet today. It actually looked pretty good, I'd never buy one because of windy knob guy though.
Anyone else completely sick of diver watches? They are the most unappealing looking watchs to me. The proportions look all wrong, its like a chode. Just looking at them makes me queezy.
Why is everyone o b s e s s e d with them? Who the fuck actually goes diving, or needs to know how much time has recently past? Like the only timer I ever needed in my life was less than 5 minutes or well over an hour.
What the fuck are these watches for? If you don't use it for its intended purposes you might as well be driving a 3k Civic in a Ferrari jacket.
I am looking to buy pic related. I'm an /out/ kinda guy, so this fits my needs. They are around $500. I just wish the fancy color versions weren't all $1500+
Objections? Other suggestions? Personal experience?
Can that Goldman Sachman from the last thread come back and explain the true way to decide on a budget? It sounded liek that unless you have all the money that you'll ever need in your life, you shouldn't be buying any luxuries... I have a mortgage, so do I have to keep buying shitters??
You put them in your peehole while you wind your watch

Not that user from last thread but as someone who actually does work at GS - this isn't rocket science. Making some super simple assumptions, you should be saving about 20-25% of your pretax income, ideally. After your fixed expenses (rent/mortgage, food, insurance, whatever), you can spend the rest of your money on whatever. If you want to buy something that costs more than your monthly discretionary income, don't spend (some or all of) your discretionary income for one month, and then you can roll it over to the next month.

>tfw I put my GS Spring Drive diver on my master card and don't know how I'm going to pay it off

Yeah that's probably not a good plan user, sorry and good luck.

I got the gulf master but the mud master is even bigger. I don't know how big your wrist is but these are huge watches. On the other hand they're indestructible. The photo is the one I got.
I live in the netherlands. Went to the flagship store in Amsterdam. There are only 3 Grand Seiko dealers in the netherlands. The employee said they want flagship stores in the big cities, they already got cities like London, Madrid and Paris. I got it for 2250 euro (normal its 2500). By the way its the 37mm version (I got small wrist). And its quartz;)
Did they put oil between the jewels there or what?

What do you mean by +/-0.0spd readings? Btw if anyone want to know (because there is not much to find about Grand Seiko) the battery must be replaced every 3 years, cost is about 25 euros to replace.
