Removed all the screws and removed the backplane on my main r9 390. How do I remove the heatsink? Doesn't seem to budge

twist carefully

Put it back together and leave it well alone before you fuck it permanently.

It runs at 94 degrees and I need to replace thermal paste

Check for any other screws. Sometimes you need to remove the silver rear I/O plate too, or at least some screws from it, to get the cooler off. Otherwise just use a bit more force. Dried thermal paste is surprisingly adhesive. Careful not to yank it too hard though and end up breaking the fan or LED cables.

I repaste cards all the time. It's easy and can have a dramatic effect. I did a GTX 770 just the other day that was hitting 90+ degrees due to ancient thermal paste. Works just fine now, in the low 70s with lower fan speeds. Took ten minutes.

>not using liquid metal.
Plebs.

The. Are the thermal pads fine?

Yeah, just leave thermal pads alone. Clean the die up and repaste it and you'll be golden.

>msi
