You don't. Sat diving is a dying industry thanks to HSE driving the cost up and ROVs becoming more capable. Surface diving fucks up your joints so bad it's not worth the money. I recently left the subsea industry because it's so stagnant. Also, they speak Alvin and the Chipmunks, not blubblub.

Our CI got royally fucked ever since the area's director thought it was a good idea to start a whole new dedicated infrastructure for the project... while it was still ongoing.
Now we build shit on dev notebooks and deploy the artifacts manually in production.

Did you mean 118k? How the fuck are you making 18k with a government job?

Used to be C and Assembly but now it's plain old English, I quit my EE job and became a Lineman, I didn't like being cooped up all day. I make way more money now as well as enjoying the job more, I have a base salary of 96k and I get so much overtime sometimes I get to 160k over the year
$18k USD eighteen thousand, which is a little bit less than minimum wage in my country of origin. Job is located in a Western European country (I'm from NA), so it's just barely min wage. The gimped pay is outweighed by the alternative of having to work a mind-numbing fast food/retail job since I don't have other qualifications. Plus higher pay eventually if I work my way up
It's not a gov't job; they just occasionally take on government contracts (public bids, I think they're called)

Is that all? Do you at least have good bennies?
What's up with people saying shit like ? I make less than 50k but where i am, it's like making 6 figures
Nigga you might be in Missouri but a fucking 4k tv or an iPhone are worth the same
YOU ARE UNDERPAID.
People think because they're not in sillicon valley they'll be ok with less money, but heck, even in SF a 1BD is only 10 or 12k more than LA or Austin

Could be worse.
This thread is depressing me. I make more than a lot of these posters now. Im not sure i shoud get into computer science after all
Where?
I make $50,000 a year after taxes in rural Missouri. You are poor
t. Waiter
If you're doing it for the money definitely don't do it, I'm doing it because its cool as fuck. I'm doing a masters in embedded systems for aerospace and I can write software for satellite systems or airplanes after I'm done. I'll make good money, but a a ton of realtors/salespeople/whatever will make significantly more than me, but my job is way cooler and more intellectually rewarding imo. Right now CS is getting flooded with people who hear you can get a lot of money and its driving wages down a lot, in 10 years average starting pay will be pretty low IMO.
Where do you live and what's your job? Keep in mind that if money is your only motivation, there are better fields than CS. That said, do you want to do something interesting with your life or some suicide-inducing office job...?
I just want a comfy 9-5 with benefits. But even with a degree most jobs will be a pay cut. Its frustrating because despite what says 50k isnt shit even in the sticks
