gnome and systemd.

Clementine for muzic

Redshift

chrome is a must

die

I got chromium up and running, but nice bait

got it

I've used gnome, but I'm going to stick with kde for now. And I'm not familiar with what systemd is suppose to do, can some one give me the spark notes, the wiki and other resource seem to explain it as a program that helps keep the experience smooth, is that right?

Clementine
qBitTorrent
KeePass
FF Dev and/or Nightly edition
Yaourt for AUR
Gimp
VLC or MPV
Liferea
Vim for terminal
Atom for bigger projects
Latte Dock is a good option if you don't want the default task manager bar
KDE Connect, Kate, Okular, Dolphin and Ark if the pacman hasen't installed them yet

ok, so I'm having a hard time installing things from AUR.

I was taught that you just extract the .tar file,
go the new directory then makepkg -Sri

however, that process did not work for qBitTorrent or Yaort for AUR.

What do I do? I can't seem to find a stright answer on how to get around this

>Atom for bigger projects
ha. Putting one trap between good stuf...
Just use Kate. Or get sublime. Or real idea if project is really big.

KDE Neon

Any error messages?

I figured it out,
Yeah, I did some snooping and realized I had messed with something to play with some settings and didn't change it back, I got it all working again.

Atom has got a hell of a lot better over the last year.
Yes, it is bloated af with electron 'n shit, but the packages available make it all worth it.
Plus only Macfags use sublime, you might as well use the VS Code microsoft botnet

windows

Install gentoo.

ncmpcpp or cmus (music)
evince (pdf viewer)
sublime-text (editor)
polybar

Welcome to the best distro there is

>electron
Yah. I would rather use vs code than anything written on electron (here I am assuming that vs code is not on electron).
And sublime is not used by apple fanboys exclusively. It is actually good* editor that works on most os'es.

*as good as non open source can get. Plus forever trial.

but I don't want to

>Yah. I would rather use vs code than anything written on electron (here I am assuming that vs code is not on electron).
pretty sure vs code IS on electron

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Arch Linux, is in fact, RedHat/pacman, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Red Hat plus pacman.

apt-get install cmus
"apt-get" no such file or directory

? im running latest arch

why are you trying to use apt on arch?

he's new
i don't use arch but afaik you use pacman to manage packages.

how the fug did you manage to set up arch without even knowing the right package manager?

zen installer is a thing

Install Gentoo

You're gonna need more than half a brain to use Arch

htop
vim
mpd
mpv

first of of all, you need to be sure, what the fuck are you doing, before doing it.

GNOME is way better

use pacaur instead of yaourt

but I already installed yaourt and it's running fine

Man, this bait got a lot of unironic replies.

No, use trizen, as pacaur has been discontinued by its author.

wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR_helpers#Comparison_table

oh, cool, thanks for the table

No problem. At the very least, it should be showing you why you shouldn't be using yaourt.

Gentoo

I'm starting to lean that way, but I want to give kde a chance for a few days

vs code was written with electron dumbo

add
[archlinuxfr]
SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
Server =repo.archlinux.fr/$arch
to the bottom of /etc/pacman.conf
then pacman -Syu && pacman -S yaourt

What are my wonderful fellows elitist Arch users having for their firewall on this fine evening? Any recommendations?
Is ufw good enough wirh its ease of setup, or too plebeian for our superior machines?

IPTables?

isn't that included with the kde-plasma package?

meme program

sl, thefuck

hmmm try su first

>kde plasma
disgusting

real arch users use i3 as their window manager.

i3-gaps-next-git
i3blocks-gaps
rofi

also, set yourself up with a nice secureboot option and efistub-loading

cmus
ranger
ffmpeg
feh

Y

>yaourt
go to sleep grandoa, use trizen

>sublime text
thats not how you spell "vim"

Gparted and dd. To wipe your system and dd to write Solus.iso to a usb drive for OS reinstallation.

Why not just use a core2? , It's just a window manager after all

You're a meme

Nightlight is included with gnome.

Fuck off Kevin

I have use for it.

But I wanted to try new things and Sup Forums would know some good programs.

Also some new people to Linux are probably reading the thread for suggestions

This post is the Rick and Morty of posts in this thread.

good suggestions

No, use pacaur as it still works and is better.

>Deadbeef
>Transmission
>KeePassX
>FF
>Trizen for AUR
>Pinta
>MPV
>VirtualBox for muh Windows tasks

systemd is supposted to be an init system, but it is a massive code base that does a bit more than just init.
the "smooth thing" is just for developers, it makes it easier for them to tell the OS when to start their program.
If you're running arch you already have systemd. its the "systemctl" command.
