Why not use Plex? Serious question. Is there a reason I shouldn't be using it?

An external HDD and a tv that can play video files/ srt files
>no streaming, no buffering, no lag, comfiest setup.
mpv
How so? I haven't encountered it yet.
Plex Pass
Is Sonarr/Radarr a meme?
Meh, I don't need any of those premium features. As long as they don't nag or guilt trip me I'm staying.
Wireless hdmi
If you care about the quality of releases/release groups/release types then they can be kind of a headache to automate; sonarr especially.
universal media server
I got lifetime plex pass after getting a 50% off code (email promo they send out randomly), really the only thing I use from it is OTA TV recording which most people won't be using/needing. I guess being able to locally save media is nice too, but that doesn't really affect me ever either.
If you want to use it on your phone or something, just get the android app or chromecast everything so it doesn't stop after 30 seconds.
Even if you don't automate, sonarr is great for just easily searching for and adding things to a seedbox I share with ~8-10 people. That way everyone can add shit from PTP or BTN without having accounts and asking someone like me to add shit for them.
>not running +10 Rorqs from multiple clients
>not siphoning C540 from C6 WH gas clouds
>not ganking high-value escort ships
>not making enough credits to buy several lifetimes worth of PLEX
never gonna make it
just use mythtv?
plex pass is useless for eurofags right?
Meh, I like everything easily accessible in one place and use plex quite a bit. Plus, I can stream it to my phone from afar. Not that much good content plays on OTA in the first place.
In Canada so I can't say.
I just use Plex as a Live TV DVR in combination with my HDHR Prime since it seems to be the easiest/best DVR solution I've found, at least until the cable company starts DRM flagging shit. I don't use it for live tv viewing though because their "guide" is shit.
Eurofag checking in. Been using Plex for around 5 years. FINALLY got the 50% discount email a few weeks ago but I chose to ignore it and don't even give t to anyone.
Fuck those greedy cunts. It's still too expensive for what it is, there's no added benefits at all as far as I can see for me anyway. I don't have any live tv on it even.
Also they price it way too high. And faggots on /r/plex always creaming themselves over the discount codes. Such a bunch of fanboy tards and schills.
In summary? I use plex but even discounted it's too expensive and unjustified to pay the lifetime pass. Having paid a few app installs and PlayStation passes in my time fuck them
I played EVE for about a year, year and a half back in high school. I really wish it were a better game and had fewer autistic manchildren, but it's just not set up for that. The oldest accounts are the strongest, the biggest alliances/corps have total control and can't be stopped, and the richest players just get richer.
It's, very literally, an exact analogy of real life.
>no ability to watch your porn on the go
yeah, it's also filled with ads for plex nowadays - even if you already have a paid account. they did hire the ex-EA guy
also the remaining devs are complete retards.
Aren't there significant portions of the game's engine that the devs literally don't know what it does? Bits and pieces that were there since the game first launched in '03 and none of the original devs are there so none of them know what to do with it, just that "if they mess with it, the game breaks"
I think that's funny
You're pretty angry about the developers of a great piece of software that you use regularly wanting to actually get paid for their work..
Don't get me wrong, I use Plex on about 5 different devices but have NO intention of ever paying for Plex Pass. Also I do agree that more people would buy it if it was priced lower, but there's no need for the level of agression you have shown in this post. You should appreciate good work and those that spend their time creating it.
>someone does some work
>they get paid for it
>then they get paid for it again
>and again
>and again
>and again
Yeah, nah, they've already been paid. I'm not into the whole "paying people multiple times for a job they did once" idea.
paywall
machine on the network with stuff stored on it and vlc (this works on a phone too if you are on android using apps like network browser)
Really depends what you use it for
I have a home server on my network with a whole bunch of movies and shows. I usually just watch them over samba in mpv whenever im on my desktop or laptop, but i also run plex on it so I can share those movies with my friends and family. Its really easy to set up and use, even my tech illiterate father knows how to stream my chinese cartoons from his ipad to his chromecast.
they updated their privacy policy to spy on users
This would be true if they released 1.0 and then abandonded it, but they are still maintaining it so that is not the case.
I use plex, for free, and I don't see why I would even need the premium stuff
You don't have to use Plex pass you dumb piece of shit. It's completely optional and remote access can be jerry rigged to work without it as long as you aren't a complete fucking moron.
look at this faggot, doesn't carrying his tv and HDD everywhere he goes
>jerry rigged
its nigger rigged
Both are common. Jerry rigged is the original form and comes from WW2. Nigger rigged came later.
That's only if you want their bleeding edge stuff
It's not free as in freedom.
Theoretically you could make a DIY alternative with available software and router configuration. Theoretically.
Realistically Plex works damn well out of the box. And frankly I don't mind paying a one-time fee for such a good service. Plus show me a DIY solution that works when you're at your friends house and want to stream to their PS4 without spending half an hour configuring things.
Emby is the only real alternative that I know of. It's free software (GPL IIRC) but also has premium features. I use Emby and prefer it over Plex, but it's definitely not perfect and I'd probably use something else if I were aware of a better alternative existing.
Both emby and plex are shit. Plex is outright proprietary and emby devs are desperately trying to be proprietary without people noticing github.com
network shares
>Build NAS
>Run LibreELEC on an HTPC, share library via NFS
It's really not that hard.
Use this OP!!
Use vpn if you want to watch from outside your mom's basement.
