Why do people seem to fear new technology?

Why is modernism so scary to most people? So many people seem to think that the inevitable outcome of technology is death. Why is this?

You tell me why Sup Forums is filled with dozens of CRT-worshipping autists.

It's the death of the human soul. It's the death of the way we've lived for 200,000 years. Since the enlightenment we've been on an unprecedented path into the unknown. Antifragile systems (not physical) have risen up around us that haven't been seen before and we have no choice in the matter. No choice. Try and stop technology. You can't.

I work in tech and I dread my contributions to this system daily.

Because as new technology advances, it also becomes more intrusive to peoples daily lives. People become more reliant on technology. With advances in technology also comes the advancement of surveillance.

Relative to your pic, I firmly believe it's the autonomous nature of technology that scares people the most. If something can do something on it's own and doesn't require you then it'll probably just leave you behind. It'll build a better version of itself and replace mankind as the dominant species.

Modernism was a century ago, lad.

I for one welcome the killer robots, humanity is barely worth saving as it is and once the West falls to the immigrant hordes I'd be happy if AI just kills us all, there's nothing left conserving then.

You are not contributing to increased alienation and misery of every person specifically. Nor are you contributing to A.I. which could end human beings. It's a choice of letting meaningless Instagram posts (for example) dictate your day. Technology is useful, and the fact of you being closely involved in in the process of creating it doesn't make you a villain.

>With advances in technology also comes the advancement of surveillance.
This is the truly scary advancement of it all.

>having things to hide

Just live with a clear conscience user, can't get caught doing bad things if you don't do them.

Until society decides that something which was originally fine should now be punished with execution.

Religion

I wish I could find you and slap you in the face for making a statement so goddamn stupid.
History and literature are littered with examples of this mindset catastrophically backfiring, and it's absolutely pathetic bootlicking even in the case that it doesn't.

It's a choice for you, not a choice for society. If you make technology better for society in any way you contribute to it killing society

Technological advancement is often disruptive, especially when concerning work. When mechanical looms came into existence, professionals in the field of cloth manufacturing got pretty pissed about it because it was a threat to their livelihood. The Industrial Revolution, actually, was just one gigantic disruption of labour through technological advancement.

>Why is modernism so scary to most people?
I believe you are misidentifying "modernism".

>So many people seem to think that the inevitable outcome of technology is death.
Although I previously mentioned that technological advancement often results in a disruption of labour, it also tends to change the way in which we fight war. The Atomic Bomb, for instance.

I don't see how religion is involved.

Sadly, the innovator of systems hardly gets to dictate whether it's used for good or evil, or rather that its use is defined as good or evil. We're just tinkerers who often run with any idea that gets traction.

Because humans are a superstitious, cowardly lot.

That movie was shit. Fuck the machines.

Modernism is a theory developed by the art world to describe a set of conditions under which art is made at a certain juncture of history, usually reckoned to be between 1930 and 1980 ish. After that came post modernism.

I think what you mean is modernity

Modern technology industry is a cancer.

We are not creating good products , we are building on a shabby foundation and taking away useful things humans have nailed down for decades or even centuries to add things nobody wants so we can pay more.

I have no idea how people in oder industry can think they do good

Survival instinct.

Ignorance.. it's what generally underlies most fear.

if ai taking over is inevitable, am i the only one looking forward to being a pet for them? like living at a zoo for the rest of my days as a relic of the previous inhabitants of earth.

Because we won't be able to escape the botnet anymore.

>Why is this?
Because its what will happen, retard.

When we have everything done for us, what is left for us to do?

>non-europids aren't worth saving
I corrected and shortend your post.

Oh, stop.

>i blindly follow the law
Cuck :)

this is what Im amfraid of, with the current clima anything that was okay today can be forbidden tomorrow, just look at the UK trying to ban porn or turkey which once had a true democracy.

People fear change.

>Why do people seem to fear new technology?
Because technology is advancing faster than the average intelligence of humanity.

Technology in the hands of intelligent people is fine, but technology in the hands of the average joe who still praises Jesus and thinks football is more important than math or science is terrifying.

This.

Fuck off edgelord.

Religion has always been the fast track to fearing anything new. Rock 'n Roll, violent media, technology, etc.
Religion is the epitome of still-born thinking, it's literally worship of ideas and laws that were created by people thousands of years ago that thought rain was the tears of dragons and shit.

You mean don't get caught doing things that A: The Bible and/or B: A handful of old people in positions of power decided are bad.
There are billions of people on this planet and you truly believe a hundred or so of them should get to decide what's right and wrong? Based on books and writings from people hundreds, if not thousands of years ago?
The founding fathers didn't know assault rifles would be a thing, and Jesus didn't know cameras or credit cards would be a thing. Wake up.

pic related. or 'eternal_orgasm' set to 'true' and then it's meaningless af. or a decent middle-way where you are microcosm / sentience of your own who is not concerned by biological human sense of 'misery'. or some other outcome regular humens cannot comprehend that in one or another way may be shit.

attachment to meaningless facebook posts and instagram pics, even filling captchas for some jewish pattern recognition algorithms is just a beginning.

Attached: 1492726772469.jpg (640x640, 75K)

Oh piss off with that bullshit. Literally nothing changed in the way people think/work. The only difference is that now mote people have access to more things and people are able to know more stuff. Leave a baby on an isolated island and it'll grow up to be just like those caveman. Leave it around ipads and give it access to internet and it'll grow up to be a shitposter.

>muh "relgions holding back progress sthick"
Go and contribute to the massive progress in nk/china then. Better yet, get a time machine and go back to the ussr.

youtube.com/watch?v=Fc1P-AEaEp8

Not op but a crt worshipping autist, as long OLED isnt affordable without going in debt crt has and will still be superior with it's colors and refresh rates compared to all the current tech. And people will just gift them to you cause they think they are shit. Little Do they know some of them display 1440p and higher

>crt refresh rates
>1440p and higher
What did he mean by this?

I meant that i am currently running 2 crt monitors at 1024 x 768 at 110hz with no input lag. Maximum res was something amount 3200 x 2500 (dont know the exact one) at 65 hz

>Go and contribute to the massive progress in nk/china then. Better yet, get a time machine and go back to the ussr.
Alright, time machines and non-sequiturs. Here's something that actually happened - The Dark Ages, Holy Crusades, Syrian Civil War, The Second World War, Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Pakistan and India, Nigerian conflict, Chinese conflict, Yugoslav Wars and far too many to mention at once.

>strawman
>Implying all those happened purely and 100% because of religion
>Implying atheifags never did any wrong in the hostory of mankind
>Implying that people in power who have no regard towards morality and use religion to control others are not basically atheifags
>atheifag propaganda everywhere. Bullshit atheifag *satires* and *comedy* in media on the daily
>over 90% of the internet is basically run and inhabited by atheifags
>still claiming that religion is controlling everyone and people just can't do what they want

Now furries can be treated as the animals they imagine to be

lots of shit that's written in the holy scripture has held against the apathetic liberasty that's currently tearing apart the white countries

i'd rather trust the western carricature of a bible-humping, gun-lovin average Joe than EU sponsored liberal arts programme brainwashed faggot

t. fedora from a mostly Lutheran country

>Implying your "bible-thumpers" actually follow the bible
>Implying you never contributed to the degeneracy in your country

Not him btw.

why is OP always a faggot?

sry, don't happen to live in burgerland and hardly care what happens to 56%ters, but wish them well. meant to say 'western left-wing journalist caricature'

continent i inhabit has it's own problems. few centuries ago people who encourage pic related would be marked as traitors and killed. earlier faithful people would sacrifice their lives against muslim hordes merely so next generations can exist.

>Implying implications
Try that on another board.

Normalfags fear technology when it impacts social structures or when it simply looks "creepy" (we judge tech by looks just as humans jugde themselves by looks). Otherwise they don't really give a fuck, they gladly become nigger cattle.

On the other hand, Sup Forums and other imageboards has a lot of luddites because of terminally retarded primitivists worshiping fucking degenerates such as T*d Kaczynski that are spilling over from Sup Forums and /leftypol/.

There is nothing sadder than falling for the primitivist meme in the age of technological wonder.

>earlier faithful people would sacrifice their lives against muslim hordes merely so next generations can exist.
>faithful
>against """muslim""" hordes
>muh 10% winrate

Don't worry bob. After Re-re-conquista, the global khilafat will usher in another golden age. All the murtads, khawariji and other kuffar who do stupid shit in guise will be beheaded along with the other kuffar posing any threats. And we'll all live peacefully without degeneracy. Technology will finally progress without any leash from degenerates and lazy oil sheikhs.

Kys

Fuck off anthropocentrist, AI is the next stage of human evolution and there is nothing you can do about it.

Because technology makes it possible for shit like this to exist.

Attached: CyborgBeetle.jpg (900x530, 90K)

literally nothing wrong with this you mongoloid

awesome

I don't think you have any idea what religion is.

In what way has modern technology actually improved you're life?

Were there not Christian fundamentalists protesting rock music?

Were religious people not literally burning scientists at stake? How's that for not opposing technology and critical thinking? Care to make a point to the contrary?

>all religion is christianity

>without degeneracy
Stop marrying and fucking children then.

Religious institution != Religion.

>all religion is christianity
Of course it isn't, but I highly doub't you'll bother with more than 5 words per post. So, why should I? Especially given that we're on a technology board. Same applies to:

>you're life

>this new

>proud of shitposting

This, holy shit. I'm am Christian but the institutions representing Christians are fucking cancer. They are full of idiots that the only thing they achieve is hate from people.
Please don't think that religion = holding progress back. That was centuries ago.

Again, this shouldn't really be discussed on a technology board.

I wasnt aware communism and juche were religions. NK has basicaly banned all types of religion. What about the league of militant atheists in the ussr? I don't know much about China's part back then but OP was talking about mordern tech made now in the 21st century I assume.

whoosh

I don't fear technology. I fear that we'll fuck up whatever great idea someone once had, which people are known to do.

Attached: sniper_by_bobkehl-d8hotp6.jpg (618x800, 418K)

Religion itself has _never_ held back technological and scientific progress, and this is even more true when looking at pre-Christian Europe.
The _Catholic Church_ specifically did prosecute scientists like Galileo for their theories about the solar system and burned heretics for various reasons (scientific sometimes, but mostly political), but you can't blame the sins of an institutions on the principles they claim to represent.
No, I'm not Christian.

> it wasn't real christianity! Real christianity has never been tried!

well... lets see here

we are pretty damn close to driverless cars, that puts taxis and ubers out of business wholesale the moment that happens.

Trucking is no longer a job, and at bigger sites, heavy machinery will be computer controlled.

that is a few million jobs there, and consolidating the wealth to only the people who already have it.

fast food is another job that will be gone with automation, while I may prefer a robo no spit in my food burger, that's another few million jobs countrywide. for any restaurant below mid tier, why have cooks at all? and when robots can cook properly at a professional level with several sensors in meat, why have most professional chefs, again, consolidating wealth to people who can put up capital for the initial buy in.

Ai will likely if its not already able to, make any paper pushers job obsolete,

stocks and shit like that will also likely be manageable through ai alone, so there goes another few hundred thousand jobs,

your machine shop job? well shit, robots took most of those, and the bit they didnt take is just there till humans cost to much and moving to another country is to much money compared to just building the rest of the robots.

with proper scanning equipment, you could likely have robots replace surgeons, and apparently are able to replace doctors for much of the common shit.

technology is going to replace so many fucking jobs its not even funny, and most people are not smart enough to get the jobs that robots cant do, suddenly you pretty much have a war that will be fought against the rich because they will be the only ones with money, due to having the capital to invest in the first place.

Confirmed brainlet.

Attached: get_out.jpg (669x863, 158K)

>Confirmed brainlet.
>Surely convinced everyone religion never did anything wrong, thanks.

do some people really not see the implications of AI in the future? wtf.

Mass surveillance would act as a large obstacle to democratic process since the chances of getting caught and punished increase greatly. Sure it would be fine in a society where laws are perfect but how many laws have been made and changed in the last 100 years because people decided to break said laws and realized that they were shit and went on to change them?

Because 90% of society is retarded and 99% have a hard time understanding what a "soft-ware" is beyond a GUI. It's pure ignorance, which leads to skepticism and fear.

It happens with everything from guns to videogames and internet porn.

Attached: 1507431761003.gif (400x246, 251K)

the real question is why people accept bad technology and fear good technology

Attached: tge.png (807x141, 94K)

It's because modern tech is slavery. Future tech will be the chains that keep us down.

>Ohhh yes sir, buy adobe cloud. Sure it practically has no more capability of cs1 on a imac g3; but you get cloud bridge support so we can track your shit

>ohhh yes sir, buy sldwrks 2018! Sure it has no extra features but if you own a previous version u cant open 2018 files even though they have the same file extension cause fuck you thats why

>hello sir, to use this app we need your gps and first born. Ohh also you need to complete all kyc info so we can 'verify' you're real (and can sell your shit to ad companies and the irs)

Nothing is getting better, people slaves and litteral cattle. Californinan san fran technocrat fags now want to shove iot into every physical object we own so they can track and sell everything. Golden era for tech was 2000 to 2007. Everything is shitty kike vc garbage now hell bent on getting as big as possible while outsourcing as much work as possible

Attached: pondergrug.png (485x443, 32K)

I for one, embrace my new metal overloads.

Metal mummy take care of me now.

>Californinan san fran technocrat fags

No, most of them are New Yorkers now. Califaggots were too narrow minded, focused on building products. When the east coast money started flowing in Wall Street types suddenly turned them all into services instead.

It won't last though, between piracy and the general lack of innovation with every service cycle more and more people are shaving off, Adobe in particular won't ever admit it, but their engagement is shit tier since their only customers now are students and enterprises required to own a legal copy of their service. As time goes on more and more realize they can just pirate or use some other freeware and get roughly the same results at a minimal cost.

Software-as-a-service only works if there is active user engagement with the dev team, there are not many applications where people want or need this. The result is low user engagement long term, which usually leads to less customer loyalty and (eventually) lower sales unless the price drops accordingly. Which is what Adobe tries to do with introductory rates, much like a bank.

It's a pathetic state of affairs and it's 100% the work of bankers, who recycled all the concepts that apply to mortgages onto software.

No one here on earth has clear conscious. Everyone has made some mistakes they'd rather forget and not think about.

if it can be used to kill people then it will be used to do that. its too late when that happens.

>You mean don't get caught doing things that A: The Bible and/or B: A handful of old people in positions of power decided are bad.
That's actually not a bad idea. Those morals have been around for millennia because they work. They're evolutionary fit memes.

Do you glow in the dark ?

I fear consumerist technology that fosters tech illiteracy, e.g. smartphones, etc. Abstraction is a huge danger, you see it all the time on Sup Forums, e.g. people unable to use mpv because it doesn't have a GUI.

Sure, but not ones that would ruin my life if people knew. After all, I'm not a bad guy. I sincerely try not to be a cunt.

Most people who are really scared for regime changes and privacy probably do things that are widely disapproved of.

Is this troll samefagging or two retards who don't understand what this implies ?

>Mass surveillance would act as a large obstacle to democratic process since the chances of getting caught and punished increase greatly.
You're worried less criminals get to vote?

>Sure it would be fine in a society where laws are perfect but how many laws have been made and changed in the last 100 years because people decided to break said laws and realized that they were shit and went on to change them?
Most of those changes have been for the worse. We get nothing but degeneracy and decay in return.

What ensures you that in the future, you won't be fired of your job because of your Alt-right affiliation ?

what does it imply?

Nothing to fear with Free Software.

Attached: 1407016712945.jpg (488x600, 123K)

If you can control directly the nervous system of a bug via a device today, you'll be able to control humans in the future.

Meltdown proved to everyone we also need Free Hardware. Free Software, even if done right, is only doing half of the job.

This is a satire site, user.
