What/which phone should I buy?

What/which phone should I buy?

> got an aging Note 4
> it was dying within hours
> replaced with brand new battery
> it still gets very hot, almost burned my face while I was on the phone for 5 mins yesterday

So, what/which phone should I buy?
> Huawei Mate 10 Pro
5* but the price is also very high.
> Honor 8 Pro
Now this price point is a lot better, but the lack of OIS is .... yeah, scares me a bit.
> P10 Plus
Relative has this phone, but of course, she got the slowest storage one (Huawei did this storage switcheroo, if you remember.)

I can only recommend the Pixel 2 XL. I've got the small version and it's the best phone I've ever had or even tried.

Why not mi a1 my friend? It is an Android 1 phone meaning it has stock android. The reviews are great as well.

You have the small version of the Pixel 2 XL? So the Pixel 2...

Ah others..
> OnePlus
The OnePlus 5 is okay I guess, but there is no support for it anywhere around. I cannot afford sending it back to the other half of the world if it breaks, the shipping would cost me half the phone.

What do I want..
> Fingerprint sensor, Huawei gestures are even better (instant unlock, gestures to control)
> 6-8gb ram
> 1080p+ display hopefully
> IPS > AMOLED (had a Note4, while it's beautiful, fuck burn in)
> OIS is nice to have, but maybe software got better. had no OIS in my 3GS back then and it was shitty.

Bruh, I don't care about Huawei or not Huawei, they release phones with the biggest batteries lately. I am not a brandfaggot, it could be ASDASD, I would buy it if it's good.

Yeah, that/those cost(s) more than the Note 8 in this country. (EU)

Yeah I liked A1's concept, but I am looking for a more flagship like performance.
I often have to pull out my phone and browse the web, look up price, open Excel, cross-check, open calc to do math, open aquamail to edit a quotation or whatever, but meanwhile we are en route so I open Waze, okay a call, then an SMS... so it's just, you know, I need the speed. IMO anything than SD821 is better, 835 is best I guess?

Lol i like how the brand is called honor and all their phones are clones

It's Huawei basically. The 8 Pro is similar to P10 Plus, just lacks the Leica lens.

So I found a few more.
> Xiaomi Mi Note 2
It seems fine, but CPU seems outdated. Also botnet I guess? Not sure about firmware updates either.
> OnePlus 5T
I am just not sure about warranty. How much money will I pay if it breaks to get it sent back? What if they send it back and it's still broken? They also use "refurb phones" for repairs. Sounds shitty as fuck.

I recently got the OnePlus 5T. The software is pretty good outisde the Google bloat. Hardware is nice as well.

- How is standby / normal battery life?
- Do you know how repairs/RMA is done? Do you pay for shipping back and forth or what's the process? I fear because with my previous Samsung/LG/HTC I could just walk into a shop (it's for all similar brands) and get it fixed. Huawei/Honor also has now dedicated centre in the country. Downtime does not matter, I have a second and burner phone, just don't want to end up going bankrupt if it needs repairs...

I lose about 1% for every 3 hours in my house (with WiFi). Every 2-2.5 hours with LTE-A on half shitty reception.
I bought the phone in a local store with a 2 year warranty. I never had any need to RMA with any of my phones, so can't really help you there, but I think they just give you a replacement unit.
If you can find a local store that sells it then go for it. I would never buy a new smartphone abroad.

>I would never buy a new smartphone abroad.
yeah local shops just have imported models, some even say "AS" as in Asian model. (not sure if there is any difference.) but yeah, local shops have only 1 year of warranty, the official site says 2.

one time I purchased a Sony from these small shops. it broke (screen wasn't glued properly so it just popped out one day.) took it back, they spent ~3 months sitting on the phone and kept telling me they are fixing it. after 3 months I walked in once more and they said look, we cannot fix it, here is your money that you paid for the device.

lol.

If you live in a 2nd/3rd world shithole there is no good choise really. I've also looked into the Honor View 10, but I couldn't find anywhere in my 1st world shithole.

Damn, I didn't even see this phone.
> shithole
Yeah, European country. I mean there is not much you can do. You either invest into local service center/contracts, shops and all that - and end up rising phone prices (Samsung, Huawei). Or don't care, and end up with a cheaper price.

Btw I had an LG G Pro 2, it was from a shitty gsm shop with 1 year nameless warranty, but never had an issue. But yeah, it's a lot about luck.

Hmm, fuck, Honor did not include a Gorilla Glass. That's just sad. The Honor 8 Pro has it though. So far I am still torn between Pro 8 and OnePlus 5T. If anyone has any other idea, I am all ears.

(And yes, I do use tempered glass, but you know it's still a nice thing to have in case you are out of glasses, or the protector breaks, or dirt gets between the two glasses. It's just something every company should use.)

Anyone has any opinions on Xiaomi redmi 5 plus? On paper it looks perfect, the price is under 200 with 4gb ram and 64gb of memory, I couldn't find any complaints on the internet apart from the gps not being too accurate but I don't care about that.

It also seems to be highly moddable from looking at XDA forums so in the future I could change the rom if necessary.

bumping because I'm in the exact position
My note 4 exynos is dying at 60% on the regular now again after replacing the original and ending up with like 2 years of workable battery life (This summer while working it drained about 10% / Hour while listening to spotify at work)

same shit, OP here.
note 4 exynos.
it freezes, shuts down, and does this quick drain even with this very new battery. like it says 40% netflix use when I TRIED TO watch 5 minutes of BoJack in the morning. It's ridiculous.

Well, OP here, as far as I know Xiaomi is solid, they have "Debloated" roms around the world for it and then it's a decent device. Xiaomi has been a sold recommendation for the past year or so, their phones have decent specs from mid to top range. So yeah, why not. Watch a few more trusted reviews and that's all.

> GPS not being accurate
My Note 4 had zero coverage during like a 2 hour trip. Sometimes GPS can just act up. There was a time when both my Note 4 and Z3 Compact could not get a lock. Hell, one trip like half a year ago - even my GPS unit in the car could not lock.

GPS is.... a proprietary system by the US Army. As reliable it was, we are just mere plebeians to the system.

Btw this is the list I came up with:

Honor View 10
> 3750 mAh battery
> big tall screen
> Kirin 970 (not much faster than 960 but is more recent)
Honor Pro 8
> 4000 mAh battery
> pretty much the P10 Plus which is decent as hell
> no OIS (but apparently even OnePlus lacks that)
OnePlus 5t
> No repair, RMA sucks big time
> tiny ass battery
> No OIS
> pricey (shops only sell imported / gray models)
P10 Plus
> Very, very decent
> Storage is a lottery
> It's just a bit too pricey

Also, "no updates"...
Yeah, I don't know. Huawei/Honor can be unlocked, and warranty is not void. There is no KNOX chip either, so no one cares. Oreo based OS also has Treble support. So yeah, I would say it's fine. Not sure how Kirin 960-970 is supported, but...

shit I forgot, View 10 lacks protected glass, but you can buy full eBay protectors.

me again, I've been looking at Motorola Moto G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 (The latter only because I saw that it was ~featured~ when I was looking at prices for the G5 and I though that 4500kr/450€ was low for a last year flagship)
Should I go for a

Forget the replaceable battery IMO. Go for easily replaceable, or "have a center close". It's not a big amount of $$$ and you can do it only 1.5-2 years. I think Xiaomi A1 is pretty much the lowest I would go. Xiaomi's mid-range is also around ~200-250 EUR. They have 6-8GB of Ram, but use Snapdragon 6 series. They are not bad/weak though.

> S7
Yeah, no. Only S7 Edge, because that one has a better battery, but to be honest for that price, you can get a much better Honor/Huawei/OnePlus or whatever phone.
