Every song on this sounds the same

Every song on this sounds the same

By "same" you meant every song is 10/10 right?

2 is so much better

mac is a hack but his music is nice, it's kinda funny when people call him innovative though lmao

He's literally been copying the Ween song Big Jilm his entire career

From my observations over time it seems that Mac Demarco doesn't overly concern himself about anything other then getting tracks done. He will use software, hardware, do his own sampling, whatever works. He also doesn't obsess on the tech or pseudo intellectual tech babble when enjoying his toys or the micro details of his song writing.

Often he gets lumped with other artists in the lazy stoner rock realm, but if one takes the time to objectively listen to his collection it becomes obvious that the guy is simply doing his own thing and has a distinct sound which he cultivated over a significant amount of time. His studio and live setups reflect that which he enjoys, making music and playing with tech. He is fortunate to be that successful doing something he clearly enjoys.

>objectively listen

literally downloaded that album 5 mins ago.

Aside from Passing Out Pieces.

I liked this - should I listen to rock n roll nightclub or 2 next?

listen without your biases nigga

>he thinks this means something

another one

which other album?

sorry the ep is named "another one"

it sounds nothing alike the fuck you on about?

So a G isn't really a G because nothing can be objectively observed user? You can't objectively state that a song using the C major scale is in the C major scale? Just because you can't or choose not to recognize a pattern does not mean the pattern doesn't exist. Lots of aspects of music can be objectively observed, the subjective aspect of it is how it makes you feel.

Listen to RnRNC

>G isn't really a G because nothing can be objectively observed
I can disagree with this without contradicting what I wrote earlier.

wich other album?

Nice pasta

salad days is only liked by the faggots who listen to ODD FUTURE WOLF GANG

it's the start of his decline
2 and ying yang is 50x better

Without getting into the other user's response, you implied that music can't be listened to objectively as a blanket statement. So you did not mean that there aren't objective qualities to music that you can observe?

I like salad days and I've never listened to porch monkey muzak

No dummy, he's talking about "another one", which is the name of his other album.

I did not mean to say that physicists are wrong in claiming that pitch and time are objectively measurable properties.

>passing out pieces

Every cigarette in the pack is the same, too. But every one feels different when you're smoking.

You seemed to be implying that you can't make a fair distinction between MD and other more generic stoner rock artists by observing those objective qualities. I don't even care that much about his music, but I do think it's possible to glean an artist's intellectual and sometimes even their emotional capacity by looking at and thinking about those qualities. And like I said, how those things make you feel are subjective, but it's not like I can't say that Beethoven's music is smarter than Taylor Swift.

There's a few songs that mix up the formula... mainly Passing Out Pieces and Chamber of Reflection. But Mac has a pretty cool sound that's undeniably him so it all works out.

Kinda hope he changes things up next time though.

Listen to them in chronoligal order now as it'll be more interesting that way. Rock N Roll Night Club sounds a fair bit different from the others so it'll be a nice gap between Salad Days and 2.

you're thinking of rock n roll nightclub

wich other album?

and you seemed to imply one can listen without biases

You can make observations that have nothing to do with bias.

>the formula
mac love
or mike demarco, i don't know

He has an EP whose name is "Another One"

You fucking owned him. I'm not kidding.

Whic one??

Mac Demarco irl

Yep, but you can't avoid making impressions influenced by your biases.

>passing out pieces
>chamber of reflection
>let my baby stay
>Jonny's odyssey

Try again

i like albums like that

also if you listen to an album >5 times the tracks won't sound the same anymore

ha

every song in his discography sounds the same

Listening to this for the first time now, I'm only on song 2 but I like it, it's comfy as fuck.

>listening to Mac Demarco more than once
sorry, user, i don't like to joke around with my mental health

welcome to the darkside, we have cigarettes and cool hats. :) In all seriousness Mac rules his music is super comfy.

this is very untrue. chamber of reflections and blue boy sound absolutely nothing alike and you know it

Who does?

man i love him, too, bro! upvote to you, gentleman! scholar!

i'm not talking about mac in particular. there are a lot of albums this applies to.
e.g. grouper - dragging a dead deer up a hill, one of my favorites

yes but let it go and brother sound exactly the same

that album is meh also
ruins is 10x better

Another one

I'm through, really liked it, better than I expected. I was high and the album fit perfectly.

haha gee wiz I sure am mad about those Reddit people and not just ignoring them like a mature adult which we all know every one here is :) The existence of a website I don't visit sure is bothersome!

Kinda hoping the next album turns out sounding like his Prince and James Taylor covers.

Feel like he's found just the right balance between synth-driven melodies and the guitar stuff he's always been doing.

better/worse doesn't make any sense musically but i'm not gonna argue it, you like whatever you like

wow B T F O post this on r/Sup Forums and collect your reddit gold, my good sir!

No

Chamber of Reflection tho

shut up you fucking cancerous jew

>his entire career
>no just listen to this one EP from years ago!

How do I dress like Mac Demarco

His music is great, but Mac as a person is a dickhead.

You don't. He looks retarded

Goodwill

go to thrift shops
buy a bunch of sweatshirts. minimal writing but ideally get like a polo ensignia or something
caps
ripped jeans
corduroy jackets
flannel shirts
thrift nonsense t-shirts
vans

loose fits on everything
keys on a carabiner hanging off a belt loop
DO NOT tuck flannel
DO tuck tshirts

jesus christ just google a picture

It's not the kind of album you listen to when you want something cutting edge and boundary pushing, it's the kind of thing you put on when you want to chill with a six pack on a Friday afternoon. With context taken into account, it's a pretty solid album.

spend some time in Canada

I mean it's Mac Demarco, what did you expect?
