Okay let's try to kick-start this again. Here we discuss post-rock and related, stay cool. >Aotysf? >What are you exited for? >Favorite band >Share some tunes >Have you listened to pic related ?
I think this is a good year for PR so far, with yndie halda finally coming up with something new and a refreshing new Eits.
1. Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans 2. I Believe in You by Mob 3. Upgrade and Afterlife by Gastr del Sol 4. F#a#infinity by Godspeed You! Black Emperor 5. Storm and Stress s/t 6. Jaxson Flores
Ain't listened to any post-rock this year.
Hell my favorite post-rock "band" is Rodan and they're only marginally post-rock.
I don't even see how you can listen to anything contemporary there's so much of the old shit to listen to. That said, the only contemporary post-rock albums I've listened to are:
^Which has Britt Walford on drums, instantly recognizable. I haven't listened to ti enough to make an informed opinion, but it definitely sounds like its cover.
Albur! - Bye Valentina, which is some nice ambient post-rock but goddamn the tracks are far, FAR too meandering to remain engaging.
Do Make Say Think - You You're A History In Rust, which was okay as fuck.
Otherwise I'm kinda just chilling with Rachel's, June Of 44, and Shipping News.
Charles Carter
you might like ewa braun and homb by cerberus shoal
Luis Russell
There is some good new stuff. I wish there was more boundary pushing artists tho.
Nolan Richardson
Wow, taking a gander at each this is great shit. Thanks man.
Hmm, well as an uninformed dude lemme ask some shit: What is the most innovative post-rock album to you, and why do you think there haven't been any boundary pushing since then?
Kevin Richardson
this is pretty good
Eli Campbell
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Sleep
that is all
Levi Lewis
no prob man
Jaxon Gutierrez
It's more of a general observation, the early post-rock albums were so very diverse and were only defined by ''using rock instruments to make non-rock music''.
Since then post-rock comes to narrow it's sound down to what some people like to refer as ''3rd wave'' and since then that sound has been the blue print for almost all post-rock bands.
Some form of innovation in the recent years; Addition of more synth and electronic music (think 65days of static or mogwai's rave tape) and the inclusion of more heavy metal influences (from post-metal to black metal). Ive also noticed a few albums going the opposite and going more calm with drones and ambient influences, a shining example would be op's pic related and the projects before that (skies Falling).
Unfortunately I feel post-rock in general is sorta of dying..but who knows. maybe im wrong. What'S your taught?
Ayden Thomas
Is there more like this?
It's my favorite GY!BE album (I know no one else shares the same opinion). I really appreciate the drone on the first track, and We Drift Like Worried Fire might be the GOAT song of theirs.
Brody Clark
>Unfortunately I feel post-rock in general is sorta of dying..but who knows. maybe im wrong
Well there was at least 145 post-rock albums in 2015 alone, and I don't think anyone here has listened to all of them yet maybe there's a game changer in there yet undiscovered.
I don't have much thought on it as I haven't listened to much contemporary post-rock, but what I have listened to doesn't grab me as much as the 90s stuff I'll admit. But maybe if I listened to the 2000s stuff first and then went back to the 90s I'd feel the same way about 90s post-rock.
Luis Wright
Their newest one is similar to this. But i haven't realy found anything to close to it. If you like the Arab undertone I would advice you check out Esmerine (especially their album Dalmak) .
Justin Bailey
Wew a post-rock thread on Sup Forums haven't seen one of them in a while
Here is a beautiful Russian post-rock album some Sup Forumstant posted here a few years ago, if you like Lift your skinny fists you should definitely give these a listen its a shame they've only got 2 supporters on bandcamp, album is name your own price so you can download it for free
Thanks, I'll check it out. I think Asunder Sweet is pretty good as well; can't wait to see what they come out with next.
Jayden Ward
I'm getting pretty hard to please when it comes to post-rock nowadays. Never thought Yndi Halda and EITS were any good in the first place and The Catastrophist was just okay which was hugely disappointing for the Tortoise fanboy that I am.
Pic related isn't strictly post-rock but it's close enough to qualify for this thread and it's pretty great, highly recommended.
We should probably spread this around because the guy has no recognition or support.
Joshua Martin
>Post-Rock
Juan Ward
holy shit I like this one so far, just might pay some actual money for it once I'm done listening. I'm starting an experimental band soon myself so I've been on the lookout for some good shit like this
Ian Torres
I really love their more droney stuff too. Strung Like Lights at Thee Printemps Erable is such a mind numbing track, in the best way. Their last two albums were great imo
yeah I just sent him a message on Bandcamp cause I feel bad for the guy
Hunter Bennett
I love Skinny Fists and F#A#, but when they do drone it's fantastic. On Mladic when it builds up for 7 minutes, and then that main drone comes in with the guitar, it's so amazing. These albums aren't as cohesive as the one's that they're well known for, but in terms of individual songs, they nail it.
Lucas Gray
according to the page he disbanded his group in 2012, but he totally has talent
Chase Jenkins
Exactly, I agree
Levi Long
saved.
Isaac Johnson
Fucking nice. Thanks for this.
Jonathan Stewart
>Aotysf? Pic related counts right? Otherwise Yndi Halda.
>What are you excited for? Not really sure, post-rock has become a bit of a bland genre for me, but obvs new Swans, new Alcest.
Thoughts on new EITS record? I feel it sounds the most different from their usual 'guitar symphonies', there were some moments of pretty nice sounds being used.
Also the new hammock record is pretty good too.
Luis Harris
Pic related is the best post-rock along with Ash Ra Tempel's s/t.
Was just havin' a giggle. Downloading it now, will make a thread on it later to see if you're still around.
John Hill
i probably will be, just to hear what others think
Lincoln Sanders
please rec me some more post-rock! I've just recently gotten into it
fave post-rock in no order: F#A#oo (and everything else by gsybe) Golevka by the Evpatoria Report Mogwai Young Team (and everything by mogwai) Spiderland () by Sigur Rós Deathconsciousness Explosions in the Sky
Nathaniel Perry
I have my own post-rock project, Fatal Nostalgia. Recently made an album a few months ago, more on the light/ambient side than anything I've done before, and the earlier stuff is a bit more blackgaze inspired.
All of those are good if you liked Spiderland. Very Soon is more so for Explosions In The Sky, Rachel's is more for GY!BE.
Ayyy Tropics And Meridians. Probably their most underrated work. Sanctioned In A Birdcage is probably one of the best rock songs ever created.
Kayden Hill
I love you both
Gavin Ramirez
who /mooncake/ here?
Isaiah Nguyen
>evpatoria report
Underrated band love their stuff.
Kayden Morgan
This thread is pretty gewd we should do this more often .
Anthony Roberts
they usually dont gain too much traction and die
Charles Rogers
The people gotta listen to the essentials and then bring new shit to the table and discuss both. That's how all generals survive, but as was stated before post-rock is pretty heavy to get into than most other genres.
Alexander Ortiz
holy fugg dis gud
Brandon Turner
Dang that first track
Justin Miller
In one of these threads a couple of months ago someone posted a post-rock album which had a very dark, almost black cover with a picture of the ocean in the center. Anyone have any idea what album it was? I think it was called eternal sleep or something like that.
Jack Hill
Any good jazz influenced post rock to recommend that is recorded quite recently?
I've been digging deeper into first-wave since there's much more variety.
I've listened to Magnog's s/t a lot, it's a really cool sound. Psychedelic, spacey, even shoegazey. Just very spacious stuff to relax with. Listened to Cerberus Shoal's Homb and wasn't crazy about it. i remember one of the tracks was cool but some of the others just didn't seem to go anywhere. Need to give it a second shot later since it's pretty highly-rated on RYM and a lot of people on Sup Forums have spoken highly of it.
I'm working on my own semi-post-rock album . I'm having trouble nailing down my sound but it's based around "white noise" ambient guitar and electronics with some minimal clean(er) guitar/keys and light drums playing gothic post-rock/post-punk in the forefront. Will probably be shit but I'll share it here when I'm done. Have any bands worked with a sound like that?
Listened to Esion by Ewa Braun, the drums are killer but everything else was pretty alright-good. I don't feel like it needed to be an hour long. Mow Mi Alle didn't need to be 11 minutes for what it does, W Drodoze didn't even need to be there. Thanks anyway, gonna check out their other shit some time.
Christian Allen
how old were you when you realized that post-rock is just a pretentious umbrella term for unconventional rock music?
it's not a real genre
Luis Wright
Homb on the other hand is fanfuckingtastic.
Nathan Myers
First wave is best wave

Jason Campbell
Goddamn this is great man. Only one track in but wow this is something special.
Julian Bennett
Not entirely "jazz influence post rock" but is influences as much by jazz as it is post-rock, though on the whole it's probably neither.
>Hard to tell yet, maybe yndie halda >New russian circle >GYBE > eh > Yes, it's pretty good, the sound is very diverse and sometimes it feel all little disjointed but their some stellar moments.
Parker Moore
Seriously, this is easily one of the best post-rock/post-hardcore albums I've ever heard and I didn't know about it until today. He posted the link here: Slint/Albini/Rodan/June Of 44 loves will not be disappointed.
Adrian King
Nice, this is serious.
Mason Bailey
stop posting this shit evrywhere.
Adrian Clark
What do you guys recommend for someone into Lights out Asia and Pelican but never listened to much else post-rock ?
Jonathan Lee
This Will Destroy You and Sleepmakeswaves.
Sebastian Nguyen
Thanks I'll look into them

My favorite post rock band is Set Fire To Flames. And then probably Crippled Black Phoenix. They are probably entry level or "shit" or whatever but I'm just answering one of OPs questions..
Owen Foster
Sleepmakeswaves is a bit entrylevel imo but really good. Same vein as Maybeshewill.
Charles Nguyen
The only post rock act I ever saw in my life is sleepmakeswaves
They put on a good show.
Jordan Brooks
Reddit is literally third wave post-rock though
Jackson White
Nobody knows? I know the album was on bandcamp but that's about it.
Sebastian Peterson
is there anything else that comes close to Macha? help a brother out
