How did 3 junkies become the most influential, important, socially relevant and musically significant band of the 2010s, redefine live performance, revolutionize Hip hop, Rock, Punk at the same time, release their music free on YouTube, get praise form the late David Bowie and influence him on his last album, release a critically acclaimed album a year and literally OWN 20

By pretending to be junkies for attention and being hard-working, sober people.
THEY ARE NOT HIP HOP!!!!
>the most influential, important, socially relevant and musically significant band of the 2010s
keks in space
By viraling on Sup Forums
Cringe thread?
>and literally OWN 20
honestly what the fuck are you going on about
By working their asses off for 6 years straight and counting while pretending not to.
but they aren't. Nobody really listens to them
Niga u crazy
sometimes I think about this and it does impress me a lot. in six years they went from nobodies to a buzz band to a total phenomena in experimental music, attracted the admiration of Bjork, Bowie, the dude from Pearl Jam, etc etc., and made music that is unbelievably wild. They're very inspirational.
Hella was already well known for a long time, and I doubt Hill is a junkie
>the most influential, important, socially relevant and musically significant band of the 2010s
ahahah holy fuck, classic Sup Forums
Whether you like them or not, this is mostly true...
>...
except its not autismo
how is it not lol
Death Grips have had a lot of artists vocally talk about how important they are to their work... there's no telling if the group will stand the test of time but as of now they are definitely having a huge impact on other people's sounds, and that's pretty damned remarkable for a group that has only been around for 6 years.
they aren't that big desu. they're real famous here but they didnt revolutionize anything, if they did, then why does hip hop, rock, and punk all still sound the exact same?
by being good
if this was a cringe thread, this wouldn't belong here
how famous they are has nothing to do with their impact on the music industry
Just because they got namedropped by bowie or bork who themselves aged terribly doesn't mean they are the most important band of the 2010s like the OP claimed
i like them a lot, GOAT right? but i dont see much Death Grips influence anywhere, Maybe Yeezus?
Influence doesn't just mean that other artists make similar music to them, and Yeezus sounds nothing like DG, there's a lot of other industrial hip hop artists that Kanye will have taken more influence from
>bowie or bork who themselves aged terribly
Both released two of their better albums over the last 18 months.
influence
>the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.
literally what are you talking about?
>3 junkies

Literally nobody thinks that
Bowie hasn't made anything good since Low
haha what... Bowie made a godly comeback with Blackstar and Bjork has been consistently great her whole career. And look how many bandcamp/soundcloud teens are aping their style. Eventually a handful of these teens will become successful, and guess who they'll be eager to namedrop.
>what is Blackstar
exactly, they can influence other artists in many ways other than just making artists think oh, their music is cool, I wanna make my music like theirs
hey guys, i like death grips! i've just never seen any instance where this is the case! the mainstream is still garbage
>write shitty surreal poetry
>create blast beats on an 808
>do extra shit constantly to have your name mentioned in any way possible
>get called genius by fedora edgelords
that's not what they do though senpai
We are all sad about him dying, but that is no reason to pretend that Blackstar was good
...
this user got it
I like DG, but you are outing yourself as a Sup Forumstard pedestrian if you actually think DG did anything new or innovative.
name one other album that sounds like niggas on the moon
doesnt matter what you think. you said "literally nobody thinks that" when many people do in fact think that. whether you disagree with those people or not doesnt matter in the slightest
Every DG album is poor man's Tackhead, but that might be a bit before your time kiddo.
>Death Grips fanboys who have never heard of Atari Teenage Riot or The KLF
youtube.com
this sounds like death grips how? and it sounds even less like niggas on the moon, which I know you havent heard now. honestly, why do people like to pretend that death grips sounds like a worse version of some other artist? whether its with Dalek, B L A C K I E, Clipping, or Tackhead, its the same contrarian stupidity that makes no sense.
They sound nothing like Atari Teenage Riot, and I like both bands. Your shallow comparison makes me feel you're the real pleb here.
it doesnt sound like a photocopy, but if you cant see the influence, bud, then you must have a spectrum disorder
I fuckin love Tackhead, and I'm only 20.
Admittedly they aren't too similar to Death Grips, Tackhead took a lot of influence from Funk and Dub Reggae, whereas DG are like Punk meets hip hop with a lot of other stylings thrown in at random.
I can hear some similarities, but to suggest that death grips is just copying them (which you absolutely implied) is just retarded. why do you want everyone here to think youre cool so badly?
>treating these buttmad posters bands as hidden recs
feels good grips familia
I dont even like death grips I agree with OP.
>redefine live performance
How is that?
it's not that they have the same sound, it's that they fulfill a similar role in their respective musical landscapes. ATR took heavy inspiration from the burgeoning cyberpunk movement and applied that to the relevant musical styles of that era. Death Grips update that overall aesthetic and their musical characteristics for the internet era.
the only way they redefined live performance is by cancelling most of their shows a week beforehand. Yes I bought tickets and yes they cancelled and yes I mad.
>literally OWN 20
What does this mean?
>Sup Forums constantly saying Andy is a great "electronic" producer
>have yet to hear any explanation as to why
meme grips' fanbase is a fucking joke
im not bud
While i wouldn't say they redefined live performance, i would say that their seamless sets are pretty impressive.
You didn't answer the question.
What was their influence, specifically?
>i would say that their seamless sets are pretty impressive.
How long have bands been doing that now?
in that sense I definitely agree. I think a lot of DG fans would like ATR and knowing your point now I have to agree they're filling the same role. and most DG fans are plebs but not me :^)
I like his production because of how dense he layers stuff. but I like countless other producers for the same reason; Andy is impressive and stands out but not the best of the best imo.
>i would say that their seamless sets are pretty impressive.
how can a fanbase be so fucking stupidly ignorant?
>I think a lot of DG fans would like ATR and knowing your point now I have to agree they're filling the same role.
exactly. i was just being a typical Sup Forums dick in my initial post, but my actual intention was along the lines of , recommending artists i think DG fans would enjoy.
but they're blazed all the time.
>Dalek, B L A C K I E, Clipping, or Tackhead
zzzzzz, zzzzzz, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, and fuckin zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I'm actually wondering the same thing
>backpackers actually believe this
telling yourself you're not a pleb literally makes you a pleb ;)
