Now, Sanchez isn't going to "put his life on the line" to make sure the team wins, because the winning is irrelevant. He's getting £505kpw whether they win or lose, he played for Arsenal who had/have a rivalry with Manchester United (who Sanchez now plays for), but he only joined them because Manchester City (United's main rivals) said they no longer wanted him. There's no pride, playing for Arsenal he clearly wasn't even interested in winning, he was there purely for money. True, money can be a big motivator, but not when you're guaranteed half a million every week just for turning up. You have no real incentive to try because you're still getting paid and even if you did win something you have no real ties to the club so it means nothing.

I think the normiefication of the web can be seen in the change of attitude. It used to be that those online, even mundane people, had a degree of 'tude to them. All the crying over things like net neutrality really showed that this 'tude had been lost because the response from people online had changed from "just try and stop us!" to a submissive pleading to be spared.
