Money.
>waaah u hating the free markits u commie waaaaaah
The Internet was a nice cozy little club for researchers, nerds and geeks of any variety. But then came the opportunity to profit from it.
That's why smartphones, social media and women on the Internet even happened on the first place.
That seems sexism but I agree with everything you have said
Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Amazon, all privacy offenders, normalfags don't even realise.
>That mre channel.
Muh nigga.
>The Internet was a nice cozy little club for researchers, nerds and geeks of any variety. But then came the opportunity to profit from it.
This unironically. Money is good, but greed turned the internet to shit. Now everything is pretty much one big link to a few products.
normies
no normies = no venture capital investment, no monopolisation, no loss leading websites and organisations designed to push self-publishers out of the market, no issues related to
You can't separate money from greed. If you want to remove greed for money you have to remove money, because you can't remove greed.
Was "napster" the beginning of the end for the internet?
people pissing and moaning the internet "isnt like it used to be"
In my opinion, the real decline was during the first surge of the smartphone, when every PC software company went nuts, and destroyed the Desktop paradigm
that led to websites becoming social media hubs, and using material design, touch interfaces, dumbed down functionality....
It was awesome. Omg. You have to understand that at the time people actually bought music then. You’d get thousands of dollars in music in short order. And most people didn’t get it at first, so the smart instead of the popular guys had the music. That was so new and great.
this
tried explaining to my brother that everything that happened with that facebook "leek" was just grabbing publicly available data that people consented to being published in this fashion. he just couldnt grasp that it wasnt illegal.
was that "meme" about not reading the terms of service started by companies so that they could get normies to agree to shit like this?
I blame Sup Forums.
>It was awesome.
Well yea it was for the time (I used to download fansubs off napster), but normalfags flooded the internet once mtv, and all the news stations reported it.

The internet bubble burst years before smartphones bro
The exwact moment the internet turned to shit is when google acquired youtube in 2006.
Don't you remember how 90s websites were half ads?

The WWW.
still longer than your resume, pajeet
The convergence of the internet into a small group of very large companies.
It used to be like walking around a street market in a third world country; awesome, surprising, awful, exciting, disgusting... now it's like walking around in Switzerland, sanitized as fuck.
Tor could have had that feeling but it turned out to be 99% CP and drugs.

the "casualization of the internet
it isn't social media. because BBS and Usenet was a thing before AOL.
Facebook, AIM, Myspace, Instagram all made the internet for accessible/usable, because you didn't need to know what an IP address in order to talk with your friends.
I think it was the game grumps dude who talked about how Nintendo megaman, metroid, castlevania all didn't need tutorials but gradually built up the challenges from piss easy to one pixel off and your'e fucked hard.
The big reason why the internet is so shit is because we are lowering ourselves to the standards of plebeians, instead of raising them up to a patricians level.
Given its the incentive of the companies to expand userbase and this increase profits.
SO now we have bullshit like windows 10 and we call everything related to silicon chips an "App".
we see this even in coding.
Who wants to fuck with assembly/machine code, when theres languages that can streamline the process and make it more intuitive. Sure its easier, but the further we compound on "making things easy" the more we drift further and further away to our foundation, and we loose sight of how to build things from the ground up.
which forces us to rely on a hulking tower of crap because we don't know how to build a new one.
It's alright, you're on Sup Forums, you can name the Jew here. Jews turn everything into a business, people don't use the internet so much as they use Faceberg. See the real problem is that once you change a product that wasn't money oriented into a product that is money oriented then it stops being what it was established as because profit becomes the only aim.
This is Sup Forums so the chances that anyone here watches sports is low, but if you take football (the real one, not the American one) you'll see what I mean.
Football was always about entertainment and pride. People would watch to be entertained, players would play because they enjoyed it, and winning actually meant something. Even 30 or so years ago a player named Stuart Pearce was advertising in the matchday program his services as an electrician due to how low wages were at the time. He's really well known, and the type of player who would "put his life on the line" to make sure the side didn't lose. That's because the game was more focused on winning than on profit.
Skip forward to today and Alexis Sanchez is currently earning £505kpw thanks to the huge amount of (((investment))) that was established during the '90s. Now, Sanchez isn't going to "put his life on the line" to make sure the team wins, because the winning is irrelevant. He's getting £505kpw whether they win or lose, he played for Arsenal who had/have a rivalry with Manchester United (who Sanchez now plays for), but he only joined them because Manchester City (United's main rivals) said they no longer wanted him. There's no pride, playing for Arsenal he clearly wasn't even interested in winning, he was there purely for money. True, money can be a big motivator, but not when you're guaranteed half a million every week just for turning up. You have no real incentive to try because you're still getting paid and even if you did win something you have no real ties to the club so it means nothing.
The internet went the same.
tl;dr always Jews.
>tl;dr always Jews.
Well it used to be, but now people have realized that muslims have been jewier than the jews.
Lately everything bad has been pointing towards an Arab royal. It's like they pepper in a few jews to throw you off, but then you find the Arab royal who is profiting while holding the strings.
the internet sucks as much as society, because now the overlap is damn well near 100%.
there's probably somebody out there who thinks you're a dumb fucking nerd and holds you in as much contempt as you do them. please grow out of this kool kid sekrit club bullshit.

That is the smoothest, decadent MRE coffee I've every had.
>maybe in bongistan
Most westernized countries desu.
Arabs have been buying everything up to be the jew, and islaming everyone. Don't believe? Then explain why no news organization will ever point out the muslim who did a terrorism/rape/crime anymore.
I don't live in a caliphate
How much time was this ration supposed to cover? Was it for one day?
that is a full day
>I don't live in a caliphate
But all of your news organizations, government officials, and businesses love all that oil money more than they give a shit about you, so enjoy never hearing anything critical of a muslim ever again even after an obvious durka.
dumb yuropoor we hate muslims over here
>Arabs have been buying everything up to be the jew, and islaming everyone.
yeah, but at the same time the same jews that were there 15 years ago are still there.
So yeah, you're not really exchanging one for the other
The internet was supposed for sharing information, not for blogging. If you want a blog, make a website.
Concentrating the entire internet traffic into a couple of websites ought to be a huge fucking mistake
Bitch please in here we dont have enough money
And the ones who do are as corrupt as an old usb
>dumb yuropoor we hate muslims over here
You should praise your overlords user.
>yeah, but at the same time the same jews that were there 15 years ago are still there.
No shit. They pepper they jews around dumbass, but those are just the slaves of the saracen.
Pretty misleading pic. Not a whole lot of people into the hobby these days.
-Most work computers are just laptops now.
-The hobby part is almost exclusively dominated by reddit shit and eceleb cancer.
-Education part is literally (not the meme) social media devices like tablets
-The gaming part is sjw infested console ports.
You can have money and feel ok with just having enough to live and enjoy life at a reasonable measure, it's called contentment and self-control.

"B-but everyone should have access to it"
Nope, only those who put effort in it, such like happened universities lowering standarts will increase quantity with the cost of quality ffs.
Say that to women and you'll get lynched.
I'm talking in a collective level not in an individual one. Even if *you* have self-control, other people don't and they will eventually fuck things up for everyone, and money is not only the trigger for this greed but it also gives them the means to fuck things up (which is in itself the cause of this trigger).
I think the death of GeoCities is more important as a symbol than as an actual event. In the death of that paradigm of web browsing we also saw the death old what the web was.
IIRC there's a recent interview with Tim Berners-Lee where he said he's disappointed how the web turned out.
>IIRC there's a recent interview with Tim Berners-Lee where he said he's disappointed how the web turned out.
could you pls provide some sauce? would love to read about that
thank you, mate
damn nice i3 gaps rice
I think the normiefication of the web can be seen in the change of attitude. It used to be that those online, even mundane people, had a degree of 'tude to them. All the crying over things like net neutrality really showed that this 'tude had been lost because the response from people online had changed from "just try and stop us!" to a submissive pleading to be spared.

This is already happening. I remember for a time there was one search that they consider extreme thoughtcrime they even redirect you to a page telling you to get help from a psychologist.
