I too have a recently purchased x270.
I find no point to the wlann thing as I'd be more likely to tether to a phone anyway.
Will replace it with another drive or something soon enough.

nice to be able to get internet anywhere with a laptop
pain in the ass to get working on linux though
modem has a actual gps receiver that doesn't seem to work very nicely with linux
works fine in windows

You can use rSAP to use phone's SIM for your laptop's radio

X270 owner here. Not with LTE card but that little machine does have some heating problem. Running hot even in winter.
