The whole desktop experience is designed around + first_letter_of_your_program + enter.
Then navigate with alt + tab and ctrl + alt + up/down arrows.
No reason to use desktop icon on gnome. If you want the C++ of DEs just use kde. It does pretty much everything any de can do and do it well.
>inb4 gnome shill
I use windows 10 and xubuntu.

Great now you can use the void to reflect on your own personal void of life for using gnome!

I ditched desktop icons before it was cool

This, I've never used them. I've always thought of them as a Windows thing.

But KDE is only usable on special distros, I can't use KDE without issues on my arch linux...

I use arch btw

This. We should utilize desktop for something useful. Like making plugins to show some information or a clock

>Like making plugins to show some information or a clock
You might like KDE then. It comes with two great big clocks on the desktop. It's a very productive feature.

elementary OS did it before.

I don't know what u did wrong. it works just fine on my install

Will KDE work on my arch machine? I like clocks

Like no issues at all? I use GNOME, it's solid, can't remember if I had an issue with it.
But plenty anons says that KDE is buggy on arch or in general...

Ah yes, hence the fuck huge icons, the fuckhuge start menu, and the fuckhuge titlebars, not built around everything being clicked / tapped at all

>he doesn't have touchscreen monitor
The absolute state of KDE users, lol

i3 users*

good

Doesn't work for shit when you're looking to do something else than open a program (in particular, looking for a file you might not remember the name of or worse, never have known the name of, such as those which are just hash strings or other coded filenames). It can be a tremendous slowdown for accessing work documents too depending on organization.

>Lying on the internet
I hope your pants are on fire.

why the fuck is it listening on tcp port and how do I disable it?

>doesn't know name of the file
Lol, just use wildcard symbols in search!

Tear off his ears? Or shout really loud?

Uninstall that shit. Install Arch + i3, don't be cunt.

I use Arch btw.

>GNOME
Who gives a shit

>Unironically using Windows 10
get

Probably, I don't use Arch, so I couldn't say for sure. Try Fedora, it works for me.

user what are you talkng about

...

No desktop icons

but a lot of memory leakage

What font is that?

Scientifica

Doesn't prove that you're not lying. Make a picture with your phone with your face, ID and desktop clearly visible.
Unless...
You're a fucking lier!

I use GNOME to configure my i3 when I'm doing some hardcore ricing on Arch and fuck up my i3 to where my commands don't work anymore.

I use Arch btw.

Why would anyone use Gnome for such a keyboard driven workflow when you could get the same with a fraction of the resource usage using some lightweight WM?
Why does such a seemingly simple workflow need shitloads of memory, heavy and laggy animations, memory leaks out the ass and loads of js?

> + first_letter_of_your_program + enter
Unity did it better

Winbaby's first Linux.

>Archlabs

Install the REAL Arch you newfag and rice i3 yourself.

Perfect.
Next, they should get rid of the lower panel and I would actually consider using Gnome.

no shit, welcome to 2018
FUD

>Next, they should get rid of the lower panel and I would actually consider using Gnome.
there is no lower panel. OP is ricing

I use mine for a quick access directory for whatever I'm currently working on

Windows before 95 put minimized applications on the desktop.

Unix DE such as openlook and cde would also so that. They still do they still install on Linux and BSD.
