Why do people see the MS influence over the Linux Foundation as a good thing?

Why do people see the MS influence over the Linux Foundation as a good thing?
Why don't they consider that what Microsoft is trying to do is embrace, extend and extinguish?
Why don't they see that the guys running the linux foundation are a bunch of shekel-hungry fags who give zero shits about freedoms?

Nobody cares about freedom, but RMS.

this pretty much. only him and a few autistic weirdos throughout the world care about it. never seen any normal, well adjusted human being defending the cause.

What about all the other big companies that are part of it? MS can't ruin it

how is their influence compared to the other big companies backing the linux foundation?
linux is too big to fail

Like IBM and Kikebook?

Embrace, extend, extinguish. We're in phase 1

Microsoft have always been good at sucking out the money of people, whether they do it in a very hidden way or not.

They have also been very good having the control over the desktop-market. They have however lost more or less the service-enterprise battle. They will never stop fighting over the desktop market. 2-3 % people use Linux/GNU. Linux/GNU is build by computer scientist for computer scientist. I doubt Microsoft will ever be able to influence Linux/GNU too much. Influence from Google, Microsoft is often a good thing, they help expend the Linux-universe. Thanks to servers, companies actually pay attention to Linux and the kernel. The community have stayed strong for 20-30 years. The community won't let Linux/GNU go into too much darkness. Also, the free-software foundation have been very good at keeping Linux free and open for everyone.

But many care about an alternative to Microsoft, despite not giving a shit about free software. Monopolies are bad for everyone but themselves.
Example : Valve has perfectly understood Microsoft wants them dead in a decade. All the gaymers use Windows, there's no need for a 3rd party company making money with something they absolutely can do.

Because linus has built a cult of personality around saying "fuck you" to the GPL and FSF despite that he has personally made millions off of it.

You can't just tell a slave there is freedom out there, you have to set him/her free, which is challenging and risky work.

I'd say we're in phase 2, since MS did the subsystem thing and now these donations

Doesn't really matter, people who use linux do so to get away from the fucking mess that is the windows services and registry

>Why don't they see that the guys running the linux foundation are a bunch of shekel-hungry fags who give zero shits about freedoms?
Not everyone is a freetard

EMBRACE
EXTEND
EXTINGUISH
THE YEAR OF THE LINUX DESKTOP IS COMING AND MICROSHAFT QUAKES IN ITS INDIAN COW WORSHIPING SANDALS

Why would anyone give a fuck?
Normies don't even know Linux is a thing, and actual Linux users aren't stupid enough to use the integration of Linux in windows. The only reason they do it, is so the investors go "Oh yea that's gotta make my shares worth 3% more now!"

>too big to fail
lmaoooooooooooooooooooooo yeah cause I haven't heard that one before.

Nothing is too big to fail. It just doesn't happen overnight. But once it does start, it's not likely to stop.

I care about the cause, but I guess you'd happily group an anonymous user as a badly-adjusted human being, huh?

>GPL and copyleft advocacy
>Freedom
These things are mutually exclusive, you do realize that right? Or do you not actually have the mental capacity to understand the ramifications of what "free software" will look like at it's logical end?

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid the people on this board can be to actually think that copyleft and freedom are actually the same thing, and not polar opposites.

I agree with you, OP. This has to fucking stop.

valve is not going anywhere just as youtube is not going anywhere being the first is most often enough to just dominate every competitor

don't worry, once msft starts to fuck it you'll have a million forks. Then people will realize how shit linux actually is, and something else will take its place.

I wonder what would happen if MS would make a serious effort to tap into the linux market. An MS distro with their preinstalled office suite and a MS server based on linux. Just becuase

It's GNU/Freedom(C)(R)(tm) for you, dipshit.

GPL is free software license.
Could be a big hit in enterprise world, but .NET core is a low effort b8 for Apple and Linux devs. They wouldn't port anything useful if it's not for servers, while their income from Windows is decreasing.

So here is the threadly memo:

The "linux" subsystem in windows is not Linux. It is a compatibility layer written in clean room engineering that contains 0 code from kernel.org (supposedly. With proprietary closed sores we will never know.) This subsystem thus not Linux, not GNU/Linux, but rather just a GNU system or GNU/NT.
The closest thing to it is "coLinux" which is a real gnu+linux system running as a userspace windows application, except this has a real, modified Linux kernel and is not a trihard emulator.

Except that's wrong and you are a retard.
Microsoft isn't trying to EEE Linux, they're holding on with their lives.
Windows Server is basically dead. It never made the big jump to the cloud and even in traditional datacenters the only thing that's running Windows Server are Microsoft-specific things like SharePoint and Exchange or as a terminal to enterprise apps like SAP (which is increasingly going away due to webapps). Now that Microsoft is slowly porting their own stuff like MS-SQL to Linux, it's very clear which way things are going.
So unless MS wants to find themselves out of products to sell in the next 10 years, they have to heavily invest in modern technologies such as cloud (Azure) and that means investing into Linux as well - which is why they joined the Linux Foundation.
It's not some magical conspiracy, just a shift to pragmatism after they finally sacked Ballmer.

Microsoft probably tries to gain control over Linux because their own Kernel is fucked because of all the Legay.
+ They want to improve into AI and webservices, and Linux has the best framework and technologies for those.

...

>Windows used Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish!
... It's not very effective.

No. Linux and Windows are incompatible on the most fundamental level.

Microsoft is not big enough in the OSS space to Embrace-Extend-Extinguish.

If anything, you should be more wary of Red Hat.

Manjaro already has the MS Office Online by default :^)

Copyleft is the closest thing to freedom you have. It enforces freedom, which is what you need because there are so many anti-freedom movements and companies. If copyleft didn't exist the market would collapse and be completely dominated by Microsoft in every area, not just desktops. Until the day that (((intellectual property))), (((copyright))) and (((patents))) are completely removed from existence, copyleft is the only solution and the only way to protect freedom.

>clean room engineering
Windows has a unix subsystem that replaced by WSL. Probably that's the parent project for the astoria, that failed miserably with WP.

That's what myspace and icq said in 2004.

>embrace, extend and extinguish
This is what they're trying to do. Eat Linux from the inside, like a parasite.
Fuck Microshit.
>Imbecile detected.

Valve perfectly understood that Microshits are incompetent, which is why they essentially killed of their SteamOS push. No incentive to release on linux, only indiefags still do it and of all the AAA games Mankind Divided provided a somewhat solid port with Vulkan support. Valve released exactly 0 new games for 6 years now, they don't fucking care anymore, they know that wherever they go, customers will go with them.

it's using evil (copyright) for the sake of good (freedoms)
otherwise, your shit gets treated as an "orphan work' and gets appropriated by the first person to look at it

>Why do people see the MS influence over the Linux Foundation as a good thing?
No one sees it as a good thing except MS.

>bunch of shekel-hungry fags who give zero shits about freedoms?
Too bad you can't eat freedoms. Even Stallman has resorted to eating his foot

Bump

And the painful activation key management.

>Why do people see the MS influence over the Linux Foundation as a good thing?
We do no such thing.

If anything, I'm liking nu-Sup Forums
stallman fags could finally stop with their autistic remarks

t. proprietary scum
