For me, it's the X220 Tablet.

I'd rather have a 9 cell battery

Consider suicide

really ?

So guys, where do I put my official Sup Forums toaster sticker?

I wanna put an i7-3940XM (Ivy Bridge) in my ThinkPad W520 (Sandy Bridge).

The socket is the same, and Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge are known to be compatible. But I'm getting conflicting reports on whether or not it would work. I have an up to date BIOS.

Should I just say fuck it and go for it? Or is coreboot/(waiting for) libreboot my best bet?

Attached: 1520979999110.png (483x487, 196K)

If you can coreboot, why would you not? At least, try it, and if it doesn't work coreboot

go for it now?

if it doesn't work then you can just put the old CPU back in....

Thanks for memeing me into buying a ThinkPad Sup Forums. I went from my MacBook Pro 2017 to a cheapo second hand T450 and it's amazing. I can finally type for longer that 10 minutes without my hands dying. This machine feels like an actual tool and oh man is it a comfy one.

I got an i5, 128GB and 8GB RAM one with the fullHD IPS screen for €320, how did I do Sup Forums? The 8GB ram is just one slot so I might pop in another one later.

THICCPADs on suicide watch.

Because it's retarded just to use Ivy in a T420.

Depends on your definition of work. It will not work without Coreboot, that much I can confirm.

Can't personally confirm for the T420, but on the T430 coreboot has no native power management even today.

Also, the 3940XM is a waste on anything but the W530/T530. You do not have the thermal headroom to actually overclock it. If you're running stock clocks, get the 3840QM and overclock that to 4.2GHz, since that's the maximum the machine could realistically handle (and has been handling in my machine for over a year now, with a custom fan curve)..

>T580 comes with MX150
>Looks ugly as shit compared to X1
>X1 is much more expensive

choices choices

Give it back Tyrone

T480s bruh, the perfect compromise.

I have a thinkpad sticker, does this count?

Attached: 20180325_130607.jpg (3869x1607, 1.35M)

X1 can only have an M.2 SSD
T580 can have a 2'5 HDD and an M.2 SSD and dedicated graphic card

Thinkpads are dead, long live Latitudes

Attached: dell-latitude-e5470-main2-1500x1000.jpg (1500x1000, 137K)

Do any of these have a decent IPS display option?

user...

I sold one of my W530 on eBay, only 155~ EUR, a bit disappointed.

I hope the new owner will enjoy it at least.

I want to compare, what's the best Latitude under 200 USD ?

Hey guys I thought the lenovo thing was a fucking meme (on account of the chinese ownership), but looking at the actual hardware specs and attention to design... I am having a hard time seeing the downsides now.
>Me in current year w/ aging late-2013 macbook pro, loooking for replacement.
>Dont really need osx as much these days (can use remote build machines for shitty ios apps now).
>wtf 13 hours battery life AND an nvidia GPU?
What is the downside of purchasing this thinkpad 25 beast?
www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series/ThinkPad-25/p/22TP2TTTP25

If my mobile use-case is mostly light development work (on win10/linux), is there anything even more extreme in terms of portability/battery life/etc that I can run from their product offerings? The T470 looks sexy but now im starting to see some parallels with dell offerings and its getting blurry.

like could I get 16+hours battery life in a ~13" form factor and a current-gen integrated cellular modem?

holy fucking christ guys is this real? 27 hours with the screen off or what?

Attached: Screen Shot 2018-03-25 at 8.39.04 AM.png (505x1240, 165K)

>What is the downside of purchasing this thinkpad 25 beast?
The price.
Get a X220 with 3 batteries or something if you want to last 13 hours.

Still better than spending 2k USD.

nha, it have two batteries, one swapable, so you can remove the removeable battery, the second one inside keep the laptop on while you swap the removeable battery with a spare
so the 27 hours are with a spare swapeable battery, just read the desciption and specs

I've been seeing the E64xx between $100-200 USD.

>tfw Craigslist x220t seller hasn't responded to my inquiry

>If my mobile use-case is mostly light development work (on win10/linux)
1) Use W7.
2) You don't need a two thousand united states dollars computer to to light dev.

Just buy a T430 or something.

Thonkpad 25 is a joke hardware wise, the screen, cpu etc. are all found in much cheaper laptops that are just as sturdy.
It's the MacBook Pro of Lenovo, literally a meme marketed on brand name and nostalgia alone

>1) Use W7.
What in the fuck are you on about

Ok this is what I was really fucking looking for right here. T470 seems to be the only one offering this option, so its probably the road i will take. I honestly DGAF about price, I just want to tick all the feature boxes.

Attached: Screen Shot 2018-03-25 at 8.53.45 AM.png (1757x374, 74K)

Ok, I need a 12.5 inch ultrabook. Currently I have the following options from CL:
>X220 (i7, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD) - 210e
>X230 (i5, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD) - 200e
>X240 (i5, 8GB RAM, 320GB HD) - 259e
>2570p (i5, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD) - 200e

What do you think?
Prices are in euros and subject to barganing

He reckons use some old shit OS

I'd use LTSB

And i7 gen 3 x1 carbon with 1tb ssd desu

i5/i7 of same gen? Socketed?

At those prices I would be demanding an SSD for starters. Nevertheless I would pick the X220 if it was my money.

>+$180
I'm sure you can find compatible WAN chips on ebay for much lower prices and stick them into the secondary PCI slot. That's a lot of fucking money for such a tiny component.

Also, botnet.

>i5/i7 of same gen?
not listed but I presume they hold their model's official CPU

>Socketed
most probably

none of the x2** have socketed CPUs, they're all soldered.
Go with the x240, the CPU isn't that much slower than the one in the x220, the iGPU is much better, and it has twice the ram.

I dont understand you guys and the money thing. Is everyone on Sup Forums poor or what?

>Is everyone on Sup Forums poor or what?
Doesn't this guy browse Sup Forums?

Lol goddamnit I just assumed all the oldfags eventually got developer jobs and have disposable income by now.

Semi off-topic: my gf wanted to buy a laptop for her grandad.

She didn’t listen to my suggestion to buy a PC, even though it will stay in a house.

She didn’t listen to my suggestion to buy an old laptop, he wants a new one apparently.

She didn’t listen to my suggestion to break £500 for a new laptop, and wants something up to £250...

When I said whatever it is with those constraints will be a piece of shit - she ordered this because I “refused to help”:

currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-120s-14-laptop-grey-10174147-pdt.html

How do I convince her to cancel it so I can find something less shit for £200?

Attached: F4390D8F-9A28-410A-8056-F10196044773.jpg (720x736, 42K)

If this laptop's fate will be a web browser hosting system for an old person, I suggest just getting a goddamn chromebook and being done with it.

It will be exactly that.

is there any limit to hard drive capacity for a T430?
I kind of want to buy a 4 To one to archive all my shit. Not using the CD caddie, it would be a replacement.

Attached: yummy.jpg (882x586, 156K)

Learn to communicate. So I'd say you're asking the wrong people for help.

Do you realize for that price you can get a P51 with a Xeon and an m2200 gpu, user?

Tell me more about this "P51"...

My T430 got stolen yesterday. Luckily someone nearby is selling an X230. I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

What is the highest resolution screen I can put in the X230?

ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-P51-Mobile-Workstation-15-6inch-Intel-XEON-E3-1535MV6-3-YR-WTY/302570080738?epid=12011610060&hash=item46729509e2:m:m4Zkm-gLZ3pOZ0c5AGdu3-g

>Get a T470 at work
>Can't install shit without getting a warning, mostly useless

>implying most non-poor people aren't cheap as fuck

It's not much about spending money, but spending 2000 USD for something that can be had for 200 USD would physically pain me. I feel ripped off and played with.

If you're a little whore, fine by me man, but I'm not.

She obviously doesn't respect you even though you are more knowledgeable about computers.
This is pretty bad.

How can you live with someone that does not respect you? I would not tolerate that from my wife.
Have some T.

wut. get an ssd + a caddie for the hdd

Quick question: T400 or X220?

I have both and am unsure which one to use as my daily driver.
I prefer the 16:10 screen of the T400 but the LCD is insufferable at times. And weight is not an issue whatsoever.

Good buy

Attached: IMG_20171101_151839.jpg (1080x1920, 1.01M)

I ordered one of these yesterday, i5 2520m 6gb ram no hdd, for $57.50 lol. I'll show pics once it arrives.

Also, what's with the big enter key?

Attached: 1490649059605.png (536x800, 163K)

Why not an X201? You get the 16:10 screen plus a manageable size and decent power.

>Also, what's with the big enter key?
Are you stupid?

Well I got both for free, and if possible I'm going to use (and upgrade) one and give away the other one

>upgrading botnet version

there's no helping the helpless. not sure how that makes him a "beta bitch"

how do you guys use i3
its so cancer, but hopefully ill get used to it like to cim and graphic tablets

swedish keyboard layout, have the same and its pretty comfy, but i often type > when i want to press shift

Keep the X220, unless you care about Trannyboot.
t. T400 user

>T430
>X230
>same laptop
The X230 is coming from a white girl, if that makes it better.

I disassembled and reassembled myt540p
Now it gives me this beep sequence 3 short pause 3 short pause 1 short
Does anyone have a idea what it means?
I couldn't find anything about it in maintenance manual

Better pray it's just the RAM

>I disassembled and reassembled my t540p. Now it gives me this beep sequence 3 short pause 3 short pause 1 short
Either you've not installer your RAM properly, or the slots are kill.

installed*

Someone link me some 8gb ram for my x220

Yeah, sounds good to me. And I forgot to mention that the X220 has its panel replaced by an IPS one. Couldn't care less about libreboot desu.

lmgtfy.com/?s=d&iie=1&q=x220 ram

Literally any configuration of two DDR3 sticks totaling 8GB.

That query is incredibly retarded.

what do you guys think about the new p52s?
looks pretty solid to me
only problem is when you look at the platform specifications, looks like it can only have one drive, a sata OR m2 drive
kind've a bummer, unless I'm reading this wrong

Long live boring generic Dell business laptop

So there are no official 9 cell batteries for the tablets, how good are the chink ones on ebay?

>no thinklight or anything comparable
dropped

Is X200/X220 Tablet be suitable for taking notes in class?

Attached: anime girl using a thinkpad.png (1280x658, 831K)

its X230 for ~145$ good deal? i5 3320, 4gb ram, no disk. It Looks like new one.

Since both the wifi card that my X220 came with and the second one I bought refuse to work after a thermal paste change(they won't even appear in devices) I decided to get a USB wifi card and a mPCIe USB adapter. The adapter does work and I'm able to connect to the internet when I plug in the card but on startup detects as an unauthorized network card. Is it possible to get this shit working by removing the whitelist? Using BIOS version 1.43.

And now it works
Jeez feels good because it's my daily driver

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Nice to hear you're happy with it.
What country?

poland

>mPCIe to USB
My X230 has a free mPCIe slot under the keyboard that I don't know what to do with. It does support mSATA but only at SATA2 speeds, so I would have a hard time justifying the use of an mSATA SSD in there even if I can boot from it. Those are like $8 on Amazon and a 64GB flash drive is like $20. I wonder how bad it would be to use the adapter to nigger rig the flash drive as a second SSD to install a small Linux distro on.

I can't image it would be any worse than running Linux off the flash drive from a USB2 port, or using a normal mechanical disk.

Attached: 8809f2d15982b5489bd.png (741x609, 18K)

Yes
The digitizer helps
Sort of heavy though

Yes
Very bad
Flash drives are not built for that
Just buy a chink msata ssd

ordered my first ever thinkpad on friday and it should arrive tomorrow or tuesday.
really excited
any advice for a thinkpad newbie?
its a x200 btw

>Sort of heavy though
I bet it's lighter than the T520 I'm hauling around now.
thanks, senpai

yes

Oh for sure

Look at hardware maintenance manual
Look at the think wiki page and read mods
Repaste
Look into coreboot and libreboot

Throw an SSD in that bitch and get the 9 cell battery. It's totally worth it. mSATA too if it supports it.
