This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
I'm going to start buying watches at omportant events of my life to make me appreciate and cherish my watches more. Currently I just buy and sell watches randomly and my collection is constantly changing and I often regret selling a few. It will be nice to have a story behind each one but it might mean I have to actually do things with my life.
My box of digitals is in the background as I was resetting them all for BST. They're all in sync now apart from the chinkshit which is already 1/2 a second or so fast.
Why do you have so any bottom tier Casio digitals?

Today daylight saving time starts. I went to set my Casio A158WE and noticed that the top left button (light / lap reset / mode) is stuck and I can't use it. Any idea if I can fix it, or should I just get a new watch?
sorry I haven't posted in absolutely DONKEYS. How are we all tonight, gents? Any new acquirements? I cooked up a bolognaise (comes naturally thanks to my italian heritage) and it was pure class

They're fine.

Waiting for my Spaceview to get a crystal replacement.

They're essentially homage watches. The Smiths company originally made clocks and instruments, and then moved into also making wristwatches after WWII. The advent of quartz essentially killed off their watch making in the 70s. The guy who runs timefactors sells "Smiths" watches which have no connection to the original company but are styled to recall some of the company's original designs.
The other 25% is probably various other white European.

The conquest of Everest was a big deal in 1953, obviously the fact a Smiths watch got taken to the summit was great PR. It's not too dissimilar to the Speedmaster and its "first watch worn on the moon", I'm pretty sure you could wear an F91W without any issues.
Caleb Sanchez
looks nice, tad overpriced but for a no name

Unless you do a bullshit DNA test and they'll give you a random 2% African.

Oh sure, I just found the implication that having survived the experience was somehow a milestone for the watch when any other could have done the same, amusing.
>angry about their genetic heritage Seems one of your ancestors did not care about race nearly as much as you.

But I'm a bong.

I haven't got one.

Asians LOVE their megawatches but 39-40 is like the perfect size for me anyway
Brody Green
There's plenty of formally expensive watches that you can pick up for a song these days, most brands do not hold their value.

You can even get stuff like vintage Omegas for a couple of hundred, plus they'll be from when Omega was a decent watchmaker.

Is it weird or autistic that I like it when a watch has a nickname some sort? Like Tuna, Pepsi, Snowflake, Root Beer, Bullhead, ? Like I am somehow able to connect to it more. Anyone else have autistic watch feels?
Aaron Brooks
I'm kinda embarrassed to get a Rolex as I find it too flashy and gaudy. I'm interested in the explorer but I really don't want comments from people asking if it's real or how much it is. I would just feel so awkward explaining that it's real.
Camden Gonzalez
Rolex 16200 36mm Datejust, smooth bezel, oyster bracelet is pretty much an all baton Explorer I.
Sure, that's totally understandable, but I already have a two tone DJ with a fluted bezel on leather, so I'd want the all baton, no Mercedes hands Explorer stand in for my second.
From a functional perspective the in-house Pelagos is the best watch Tudor makes. For looks I'd say the new GMT if they made it in 36mm, because I love the 16710ish looks.

What's going on with those lugs?

IS baton referring to the hour markers? I'm not familiar with that term.
Yes. Batons are a style of hour marker/indices. I generally prefer batons to other styles of indices (e.g. Roman or Arabic numerals). Seiko's preference for highly angular batons in their grammar of design style watches is one of the reasons I really like that design anesthetic. Pic related.
Any decent watch for someone with girly scrawny wrists? Most watches intended for males look huge on my wrist and quite hilariously so.
I really feel like a faggot still looking the time on my phone at 30 years of age.
Ryan Barnes
day date always ruined it for me. The dj somehow works but for some reason i am really bothered by dates on any watch. The day just ruins watches for me.
The Mercedes hand is the nastiest thing about Rolex as a brand aside from the various "iced out" models they offer.
Brandon Perry
Haha.

youtube.com/watch?v=3TxiNSXQR88 >Citizen Cal.0100 >+/-1s/yr accuracy Might hold off on buying a Chronomaster. Hopefully whatever watch they put this in won't cost a gorillion dollars.
Nathan Sullivan
Fair enough, I've never minded day dates personally, but I get some people prefer date only or no date. I posted my 52 KS Special just as an example of another watch with angular batons.
What brand Zulu straps should I use? Is Maratac noticeably better than others? What about JaysandKays?
Justin Watson
I only like Mercedes hands on the 1675 and 16710 GMT and pretty much loathe them on any other model. I have pretty autistic tastes in watches mind you.
Ayden Walker
from a design perspective, literally everything is off and out of balance with that watch. it's almost like they did it on purpose
Juan Powell
The dial and hands looked really nice on the pocketwatch. Some anons told me, citizen might put it on hand/wrist watches. If that's the case and it has that movement too, I am with you.
Elijah Gray
>dive watch >100m >$399
For that money you can get a lot better.

Is TGV a character like Archie? It's hard to tell if it's all for youtube or he's genuine about it
Oliver Walker
lmao at that quote.
>I had your watch on while doing this >It was fine.
Hunter Young
I mostly like it aesthetically. I’d get an SKX and mod it if I knew how to do it.

The diffence is that Paul knows that he is autistic but our boy Tristano haven't realized it yet.
