How many of you fags graduated with a CS degree? An IT degree? Something else? Are you a developer now or just casually browse this board?
Any of you manage to avoid the college Jew and still make money in the tech industry without a degree? How?

Just HS, but learned programming at 15 y/o
I earn 85k a year these days, and i'm an average programmer
got my associates at a community college. make about $30 an hr as a systems tech.
And how? Just make good relations with your colleagues, help others get jobs, remember them when new project starts, and be competent.
To this days, i am always offered jobs not because linked in, but by personal recommendations.
Advice, organize a drinking afternoon with your colleagues in a pub near the office. You do not need to be a clown, just organize it.
Either get a degree from a decent university.
So as a 25 year old with few friends and no job, learning programming alone would be a fruitless endeavor, I’m assuming? I’m not bad with people in a small environment but shit like you described seems completely alien to me.
Came from tradeschool(Telecom) and am now working in a medical corporation manufacturing tech.
I have no intrest on IT or other shit like that, when i go to an uni(free in socialist finland) i go to Hvac engineer
Wew. That’s more than I make with a bachelors. What did you study if you don’t mind sharing? How long you been at it?
> learning programming alone would be a fruitless endeavor, I’m assuming
Eh, no. Just get a bachelor's / master's degree from a good university or such now, you'll have a very good chance of getting hired in a lot of possible jobs.
If you think you'll manage with just "self-taught" and some website, that's probably illusory. Yes, you can get good enough on your own to even prove it to people who bother looking at your resume, but the chance that you'll fail to become good or fail to convince people that you are good is rather high.
>That’s more than I make with a bachelors.
The important question is by who?
Stanford? MIT? Harvard? EPFL/ETHZ? Tokyo U? Berkeley? TUM? Some other name? Or some shitty Indian / Polish / Greek / US / ... diploma mill?
I did IT systems, so Cisco and Microsoft etc. The most i'll probably make is 85k a year once i get all my certs.
University of Central Florida. My major was the issue, the college itself is fine. I know Disney engineers, dude who works for Boeing, and an Apple engineer who graduated from my school. I’m just too much of a brainlet for that field.
plus you have the opportunity for growth, whereas I'm always stuck under the operating system, not to mention i have to work under real pajeets.
I’m fucked in that regard I think. I have like a 2.7gpa and dropped out at 22 with tons of useless credits cause I couldn’t stick to a major. The only way I’d be able to return to school is if I took out private loans because ‘murrica
> University of Central Florida.
> 482nd in US as of 2018 - timeshighereducation
Even if you don't regard university rankings as really telling and authoritative (they're obviously not), this is not impressive at all?
The cynical way of looking at this is that you're probably around the 10 millionth best trained student in the USA from the last 10 years or something like that; and that this is probably a diploma mill for a lot of subjects.
Didn't bother to look up average number of students and derive a better estimate though. Point is, it probably doesn't exactly market itself to an employer on its own.
No chance studying abroads either? You might avoid some of the heavy loans and get sufficient "proof" of speaking a foreign language someone might be interested in hiring you for, too.
finished masters and couldn't find a job
doing PhD now because free moniez
Im a math student who fucks around with programming for fun. Dont plan on working in the tech industry, I want to work in academia.
>Wants to be in Academia
>GNU Copyleft fandom
You would be a Marxist, wouldn't you?
quit university because I was bored out of my mind and refused to pay money for things I can learn on my own
Making 55k Yuros now (which is quite a lot where I live) as software dev. Got my job via a friend who's pretty damn good at manipulating people, especially clueless business folks
Im not far from graduating, and currently on an exchange in tokyo for the semester. Stuff is comfy if you play the uni instead of being a little faggot about things.
How
About to graduate in May even though I already achieved my first bachelor's four years ago. Hopefully will find a job
I'm a software engineer with a cs degree and I make 70k in a low cost of living area, so that's pretty good. I basically shitppost all day at work, so I don't mind my below median pay.
EE with CS skills here, currently unemployed, reached the wizard level and now I am a NEET.
2 year network systems diploma
I make 65K a year as an intermediate network implementation specialist (fancy name for contractor)
Pic kinda related
I'm a programmer with a CS degree and make 200k a year in a low COL area right out of college.
If you're a brainlet and satisfied with low pay then don't bother. If you can actually pass the interview at the top paying companies then of course it's worth it.
You have autism
same story but i work in a datacenter as a network tech. got lucky, i think. put my resume up online, called by a recruiter, contracted at 22/hr, hired on at 29/hr with stocks. i went from my 10/hr retail job to real IT job within a month of uploading my resume. just try it folks. you never know what's out there.
Employers literally don’t give a fuck where you went to school for software and a lot of other jobs in general. If you know your shit and aren’t a sperg you’re hired. Muh top schools is a meme.
Meant for this autist
I have a Philosophy degree.
I'm a front end web developer now.
Didn't go for a CS degree when I was in college mostly because I didn't want to deal with high level math and Java.
For one, it seems like every CS program has you taking up to like Calc 3 or whatever, i don't even know, and otherwise maths that you realistically don't ever need to use in real life everyday programming.
Secondly, it seems like every CS program has you learn fucking Java, which is fucking retarded.
Anyways, that was like 5 years ago, could be different now. Besides, there's so many good online resources out there now for tech stuff and programming, it's easy to self teach yourself like I did, provided you have good motivation, discipline, and creativity.
Regardless, the stuff I learned in Philosophy, especially critical thinking and logic, has translated remarkably well into programming and software development stuff. Not to mention I am/was a huge nerd anyways.
If you don't want to do CS, learn tech stuff / programming on your own, and get a degree in something you truly find interesting, and get good at that too. You'll be a more well-rounded person afterwards too.
graduating with a B.s. in CS this semester, getting my PhD in CS and intend to do computer security research after
Finishing my CS degree this term, I'll be starting at 80k, feels good
front end is right above UX engineer
Computer science != everyday programming
You shouldn't get a CS degree if you want to develop software.
You should do a masters in software engineering then.
Seems like people don't know what computer science stands for, ofcourse they want you to learn calculus.
>CS degree?
r8 my descent into autism and social anxiety paralysis
btw I work in Toys R Us and we are going out of business and I just learned I can go back to community college for FUCKIN FREE in Tennessee so I plan on getting some 2 year degree once I lose my job
It will be a computer degree.
Casual, I'm still trying to learn coding. This board got me into GNU/Linux though.
>honors seminar in calculus to C in some BS class like Web design
sad
this is hard to read :(
You'll never make it, kid. Sorry to break it to you.
t. terrible life advice
trust me user you got very lucky
Not saying front end is quite as difficult or complex as other types of backend/database development or high level software programming. But in 2018 it is faaarrrr from the basic html/css/jquery stuff that it was even 3 to 4 years ago. It's evolved and become more complex at lightspeed comparatively.
It also requires creative/artistic skills as well. You need to have a good eye for design, and that is not an easy thing for just anyone to pick up either. Hence, you have tons of backend devs crying that css is hard and making things that look like they never left the 90s.
>Computer science != everyday programming. You shouldn't get a CS degree if you want to develop software.
I agree, they are really different. For someone who wants to do just programming and software development, you probably wouldn't want to do CS.
It's not the right advice for everyone, that's for sure. I wouldn't say I got that lucky. I didn't get anything handed to me, that's for sure. I put in a lot of time and hard work.
>being this salty that you're a brainlet and can't get a good job
its as fruitless as you are passionate. learn a language well, get familiar with standards and design patterns, work on side projects and/or contribute to open source, and build or join a network of people ""better"" than you by conversing on twitter and/or attend local conferences.
After x time you will surely find a healthy job
dude epic it looks like mine but mine is even worse
Keep pumping the CS degree bubble. Weeb bros.
You too can get a job jf you simply go to college. Ah hyuck!
Nice. Did you discover that if you missed a single class it was all over?
>imblyin that unis other than the ones you specified are crap
While true, the top school meme is good for networking with employers since top companies will come to good schools with good cs programs
Just finishing my first year in networking. I hope I can get something comfy like that desu
Graduating with a Bachelor's in May, have a job as a full stack dev making 71k a year
>tfw
I'm a systems engineer living in a third world country, I make about 10K a year as a programmer and that's supposed to be "good", I'm looking for a better job though.
ended up working at the university I graduated from off of a summer project I did.
Make 42k a month with roughly 30 hours of work a week within my second year working here. Create prototypes for applications in the health sector. I work on everything myself, in a way it's freelance with a bit more of accountability. Would prefer to work in a team environment tho, so leaving in about 5 months.
>full stack
>71K a year
You are getting cucked
>42k a month
???
*a year
my brain's on caffeine and no sleep
2 year meaningless cert called "software support".
I Now work writing purely functional finance shits
I got a physics degree, now I'm a CS PhD student. I'll probably end up a programmer at some point, but I'm going to work on cool shit in academia for as long as they'll let me.
I will graduate this year. Doing my unpaid internship in meme startup. I am gonno kms once my savings run out.
you fucked up
NEVER ever do anything unpaid in a company setting. Not only are you being scammed, but it shows future employers that you don't value yourself, so why should they value you?
where did you upload it to? I graduated with an assoc in IT recently and am looking to get my name out there..
I did not had anything else to do. College was boring. Colleges projects and assignments and peoples there suck.
Here I learned a few things, did some coding instead of watching anime and jerking off all time.
Last year of computer engineering reporting in. Writing my diploma atm, ask me anything.
Currently still in uni. Computer Science and Engineering.
Have a part-time job as a Software Developer, earning about 1.2$ per hour will get a raise to 1.6$
It's actually 4$ per hour
Hello.
Pre associates, 49k as IT Tech
Associates degree, 64k as IT Admin
Bunch of certs and BS, 84k as IT Engineer
CISSP and OSCP (incomplete), 100k as InfoSec Analyst.
A lot more went into this than what I listed, but it's a general overview. I know how to code, it has been very, very helpful in just about every aspect of my career.
Literally only need to finish writing my bachelor thesis, but i have lost all ambition and havent wrote a sentence in months.
I have no degree, I am a rails developer. I didn't get a degree because it seemed too much effort for something that wouldn't offer me things I like.
EE here, I have a job that has nothing to do with my degree.
Bachelors in Applied Math and Masters in IT. Work as a software developer. College is only a Jewish meme in America, where it's overpriced. That was my trick: I went abroad for college.
What job?
>this whole thread
I finished my CS bachelor's two years ago. Now I earn 65k as a dev.
However, I was very fortunate in that I had the savings to afford college without having to go into any significant amount of debt.
No formal education in IT and I work as a server administrator for about 1.3k euros per month which is quite a lot here.
For comparison my monthly living expenses are about 300 euros on average, no rent though since I own my apartment.
B.SC compsci; M.SC infosec
Wubba lubba dub dub
Is that all you earn?
We've all been through this. It really sucks. [Insert shia la beof Motivation meme here]
