Why do 30somethings assume 23 year olds never had old tech?
I hear all these mid 30s guys say "I can't be a fucking Millennial, I had VHS, cassettes, rotary phones, and floppy disks as a kid, don't lump me in with 23 year olds" even though I'm 23 and experienced all that old tech. It was still there in the early 2000s. Why do people think 2002 was the same as 2008 or something?
Don’t let it get to you. The prime of thier lives are over now.
Ethan Davis
I'm 22 and I remember all this shit Until 2005 there was a lot of old stuff circulating
Austin Johnson
I'm 24 y/o and I assume most of my age have never seen old tech (by old I mean black & white CRT TV, etc..)
Ian Campbell
>I can't be a fucking Millennial But Millenials are the older gen. Meaning people who were in 20's during 2000's. It's just that the word lost it's meaning. Current underages and very early 20's are post-millennials. Basically, if you don't remember 9/11 or were too young to understand it, you are post-millennial.
Hunter Foster
What's to understand? It was an inside job. Easy.
Charles Turner
old man yelling at the clouds, basically.
Cameron Davis
Care about something better than whether or not you played with VHS tapes compared to someone else
Joseph Young
The prime of your life isn't your 20s user. A lot of people aren't even mentally mature until they're 30+ now.
Carson Mitchell
Most post millennials know more about 9/11 today then the retards that were adults did when it happened.
Do you not see the political world around you today?
Isaac Morales
In that case third world 18 year olds are still using older tech on a regular basis.
Kayden Wright
I'm the same age as OP and had access to all that shit even in southspicland.
Jason Long
True but I always hear mid 30s folks say they're not Millennials because "We had VHS, cassettes, rotary phones, and floppy disks as a kid," even though even those 10 years younger probably had some of those things.
Jace Cooper
I'm 18 and i remember all of it...
Caleb Fisher
Keep telling yourself that
Andrew Jenkins
>A lot of people aren't even mentally mature until they're 30+ now. This is exactly why your prime is in your 20s... Most people now are filled with sorrow and sadness, most give up on their dreams and live the boring life (sleep/work/eat/repeat). There is literally no reason to stop being reckless and doing whatever the fuck you want, something 30yo+ seem to have forgotten.
Nolan Martinez
well said user
Carson Cooper
Oy vey! You’re supposed to be miserable as soon as 18 these days!
Daniel Morales
people born until ~2000ish will remember all of that (maybe without actively using it), maybe except rotary phones. I was born in '98 and can't recall using it, although I think I saw it at grandparents' back in grade school.
John Robinson
Dear dumb fucks. Your prime isn't your 20s. Far from it. Your 20s is a time period where you're lost, immature as shit, and literally just spit balling life. If you are an active person, you do enough retarded shit that you have no regrets nor look back once you've gained some sensibilities later on in life. No one is filled with sorrow/sadness 25+ in modern times .. You're thinking of boomers who had kids when they were 21. Wtf is wrong w/ you warped Gen Z/late stage millennial? We millennials lived life to the fullest at the height of America. I'm not filled with sorrow/sadness, I feel bad for you lost fucks who. > There is literally no reason to stop being reckless and doing whatever the fuck you want, LOL at the fucking retard.... It's called consequence you simpleton. Keep living this way and rolling the dice. You'll roll snake eyes a couple of time and be thankful if you're alive. At such a point you'll happily not do certain shit because you'll learn the consequences of it and limited value. > 30yo+ seem to have forgotten. At this point, if you lived life to its fullest in your 20s, you haven't forgotten shit. You look back vividly at a crazy 20s and are happy you made it out alive. You have scars/bruises and you are just happy to have survived it all and have all of your senses so as to know how to live life to the fullest w/ such awareness. I don't ever want to return to my 20s. I was a fantastic time that is behind me.
The people you seem to be bashing are boomers who had your sorry asses in their early, mid, and late years and never got to live life for themselves. I've lived multiple lifetimes in my 20s... Haven't forgotten shit thus why I am happy just being alive everyday
Justin Flores
What's your point?
I'm 27 and I knew what a rotary phone, telegram, black and white tvs, and jukeboxes were a when I was a kid. I probably even came across some of them.
That didn't mean I lived with them in every day life and experienced them as contemporary things.
Nicholas Howard
Gen Z/Late stage millennials like to believe they have minds that transcend time. They are able to google floppy disk, 3.5"ers and fire up songs from the 70s on spotify and think they somehow 'had' it and lived during those periods. It's a showcase of their idiotic arrogance. Like the retard HOGG who had some catch line about how his parents don't know how to send an imessage. My parents are older than his and use smartphones just fine. These kids are literally living in a fucking delusion... Stupid asses weren't even born yet when certain technology was phased out and they behave like they literally were an extensive user of it. Nostalgic delusional brainlets who have nothing of note in their own times so latch on to the cool shit of previous generations.... > REEEEEE I WAS THERE WHEN EVERYTHING HAPPENED OK Kid
Henry Nelson
how do you explain many of the most successful people having had their prime in their 20's (gates, jobs, [50% of tech billionaires] etc.)
Nathaniel Ortiz
Fuck off kiddo, you're not "le 90s kid".
Kevin Long
Remember when you stopped calling some house to ask if the person you wanted to talk with was there and instead just called to the person directly to their personal phone?
Ryder Sanders
chill gen X the wise, I really do remember playing with that black (magnetic?) tapes on unused VHS, etc. I don't recall actively using rotary phones but everything else mentioned in OP I surely remember.
Kevin Foster
Tbh they are right. Just because you saw your dads old pile of floppy disks when you were 4 it doesnt mean you have experience using them. If you didnt move onto cd rom dvd's by the time you were 5-6 it means you were an ultimate poorfag. Cassettes its different, most cars kept using them til early 2000s. Vhs was alive and well til 2003.
Parker Campbell
What?
We literally had the same abilities via limewire/WINMX/kazaa as non-"late" millennials. Maybe a bit less convenient, but Wikipedia was definitely a thing by late middle school.
Remember that cringe commercial? >idk my bff Jill?
Aiden Moore
>Millenials are 40 years old Are you mentally retarded or an old guy trying to tell himself he's still young? Millenials are anything born between 85 and 95, 75-85 are gen X, 95-05 are gen Y, 05-15 are gen Z
Nathan Young
so you were a poorfag
aahahahaha faggit
Daniel Gutierrez
> Your 20s is a time period where you're lost, immature as shit, and literally just spit balling life This is suppose to happen in late 10s, sorry you were a late bloomer. >LOL at the fucking retard.... I consider not having your own business past 30yo as a failure but whatever you say, I was not talking about drinking and shit like that. In your 20s you can spend days learning and building things. You can sleep 4h/night for months while actually doing things with no consequences and no one to attend to (children/wife/whatever). >The people you seem to be bashing are boomers who had your sorry asses in their early, mid, and late years and never got to live life for themselves. I've lived multiple lifetimes in my 20s... Haven't forgotten shit thus why I am happy just being alive everyday Good for you, my post was not aimed at people like you. I had to see resumes last year (I am 23) and I was struck by the number of 35+ dudes applying for some students start-up with no guarantees about anything. I was especially looking for other students willing to spend a few years on building something for themselves instead of joining some state-owned big company doing RESTfull apps for the next 30 years.
80% of businesses fail? guess what age demographic that is? You fell for the MSM lies yet again in believing the paraded outliers [zuck the cuck/etc] are representative of the bigger picture. Get your ass off social media platforms and MSM, stop protesting about stupid shit and confusing your gender, and get into reality. While you morons are busy projecting about childhoods and times you never had and wasting away on stupid shit, Asia-pacific is blazing ahead of you. > Bill gates > Steve jobs Find some new heroes nostalgia generation... Ryder Clark
Also born in 98 here, i fucked with all of that stuff and used a rotary phone on a regular basis due to being at my grandparents alot and calling up my mother to annoy the shit out of her to get my Pokemon cards, i have older brothers and we had a Windows 98 computer we loved and used all of our Gameboys as well as fuck up VHS tapes by recording over the same 8 over and over, among other 'retro' i guess you could say shit, my father had a whole cassette box in the car for road trips, now it's all just in a box in the attic, why do people glorify how they were around for certain tech and try to exclude others about it? You can't say they didn't use it just because of their age, old tech is in and other odd places so if a family is poor enough im sure more kids will use the tech just as extensively as they can , not dissing old tech as i loved it, but it won't do much unless you wanna re live shit or you have nothing else to use Friend you are one of those people
Oliver Parker
What makes you say that? I'm 23 and one of my older relatives had one of those TVs, so it's entirely possible for other people around my age to have relatives with old tech as well.
Kayden Foster
I am 39, and life just gets better each year. I love youngsters who are up for a challenge and I respect those older than me as they have so much to teach. I don't doubt many young people were exposed to cassettes and old tech, those who think otherwise are ignorant, and every generation has their own population of assholes and idiots.
Thomas Wood
I'm 25 and graduated and feel any best years are behind me but were wasted doing a degree I didn't like while zombified on ADHD drugs.
I'm off them now and finally feel alive but don't know what to do. I missed out on all the fun times and my life is filled with regret.
> I don't recall actively using ... You said it not me. There's a difference between having seen some shit and actually having been around when it was ushered into the world and actively used. I'm in my 30s and I recall 'seeing' a rotary phone at my grandmas house. I'm not faggot enough to go ranting on and on as if I was a heavy active user or understanding of the culture/phenomenon surrounding it.
Colton Brooks
nigga you're 25, you can make your fun times now, you still have like 40 years or so to live
Justin Brooks
85-95 are Gen Y (aka millennial) 95-200? are Gen Z after that is so-called Gen Alpha
Jack Flores
I don't know how to have fun. I've been on these things since 11 and just now feel capable of doing my own thing. I just followed orders my whole life while being a zombie.
How do I even fucking talk to people IRL.
Leo Price
Because you didn't. Just because you remember seeing something when you were three years old doesn't mean you used it... unless you come from a poor family that sifted through my dad's garbage for your computing needs
Benjamin Adams
I used one, for many years. Not just "know a relative who owned one at some point".
Gavin Morgan
You're still in your 20s user. You have 5 years to do the stupidest shit you can think of.
Jaxon Turner
> limewire/WINMX/kazaa You had the abilities because they were ALREADY established. Again, you're not getting the salient point. You don't because you have nothing of note to define that occurred in YOUR TIME. Thus, you latch on to what was PROVIDED to you by a previous time. You mention these things and I instead think of obscure websites with posted sound files. I instead think of IRC and 'get' bots. the time before app based sharing...
> Wikipedia Try a physical encylopedia or CD based encylopedias
Christopher Sullivan
What you're really saying, is that you were poor.
Angel Cruz
I'd say 'just contact someone and ask them if they wanna do something', but now it seems you don't have anyone. In that case I'm not sure how to get started, try talking about work when eating with your coworkers or something and just be nice. If that's not an option, I personallt would join some kind of hobby club outside of work, try learning an instrument in one, or maybe some sports club To be honest I'm pretty content with the internet, you're talking fine to me right now
Cameron Powell
Because they're referring to people living in America. Nobody cares about how you grew up in India or Russia or whatever.
Jack Diaz
This is wrong. Gen z are 2000 to ~2015. 85-1999 are gen y. Baby boomers were 45 to 65, gen y was 65 to 85. Its logical, not random year gaps thrown together
Kayden Taylor
>This is suppose to happen in late 10s, sorry you were a late bloomer. No wonder so many of you soyboys are still into anime, cartoons, capeshit, etc into your late 20s. You dumbasses never had a childhood and thus are regretfully trying to relive what you never had the chance to as you busied yourselves trying to LARP as adults. Sorry fucboi, there are no shortcuts to adulthood... you sure can put on a good LARP tho. > I consider not having your own business past 30yo as a failure but whatever you say, Making $100 a month on the side from ads on your crusty ass youtube channel isn't a business nor is the majority of the shit you morons claim as delusional entrepreneurs. Stats speak for themselves. Entrepreneurship died in your generation because Asia Pacific became a global powerhouse that is doing everything better cheaper/faster. A couple of e-celebs who can pay bills is not broad based entrepreneurship. I love how you are maintaining your delusion about the avg. age of SUCCESSFUL Entrepreneurship though : > In your 20s you can spend days learning and building things. You can sleep 4h/night for months while actually doing things with no consequences and no one to attend to (children/wife/whatever). Sorry to burst your bubble, but the HUGE majority of your generation is not spending this time learning/building and feverishly pursuing entrepreneurship. Asians are which is why they're far ahead of you. Meanwhile, I turn on the tv to a bunch of retards protesting gender rights, race idiocy, guns, and whatever else the MSM and algos bang into your low IQ brains. I see very few from your generation looking towards and producing the foundations of the future. > Good for you, my post was not aimed at people like you. Your post was an attempt to validate your delusional views of the world I just blew it the fuck out.
Ayden Long
Wait, are you calling me a late millennial...? I'm 27. How old are you? Your experiences don't sound any different than mine. I grew up learning how to use paper based library cards, and learned proper typing on a Windows 95 machine and played games on my older brothers Apple II.
In any case, the limewire generation most definitely used IRC. That shit was huge back when fansubs were still big and right sites kept going down four weeks at a time.
Josiah Rogers
> I had to see resumes last year > (I am 23) > (I am 23) LMFAO
> I was struck by the number of 35+ dudes applying for some students start-up with no guarantees about anything 23 year old looking at resumes for a startup. What is your startup centered on? Some unprofitable app that sells people's data? Juicero 2.0? Idiot gets a taste of success at 23 and feels he's on top of the world because he gets some resumes from 35 year olds.. rejects them because (old people ewww).. staffs with young dumbasses and makes rookie mistakes that result in venture going tits up > state-owned big company doing RESTfull apps for the next 30 years. Framework kiddie land making stupid useless shit.
You got a lot of growing up to do and experiences to normalize your twisted world view.
William Evans
> born in 98 > used a rotary phone on a regular basis YOU CANT MAKE THIS SHIT UP
These are the year ranges from Wikipedia. Boomers: early-40s to mid-60s X: mid-60s to early-80s Y: early-80s to mid-90s Z: mid-90s to mid-2000s
>Its logical, not random year gaps thrown together "There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends ... At the present time, there is little consensus regarding ending birth years."

A generation used to be 30 years. At best its 15 years. I love how it somehow shrunk to 10. At 5/10 year intervals there's nothing but confused idiocy and artificial distinguishing. Literal destruction and chaos. One year race relations are amazing the next a bunch of self-professed revolutionist want to restart conflict just for the feels/joy-ride
By the time you faggots sort out these artificial generational slices, you're going to be in the grave
Zachary Martinez
A generation traditionally is 30 years. My sentiments are that in modern times its at the least of 20 years. The rest is LARP. So, 1980+20 = 2000 1980-2000 is all the same fucking generation.
Andrew Campbell
Did you miss the part where i was A- at my grandparents house alot And B- called my mom on it like a spoiled brat to get her to get Pokemon cards This is some cherrypicked shit if I've ever seen it
I don't disagree but it is what it is. I think it should be based on major social phenomena*, not fixed time gaps. *wars, emergence of life-changing techs, STEM suddenly being filled with 45% women
Jonathan Jones
Yes I am because unlike you I'm centering on what a 'generation' is supposed to encompass and not some artificial made up distinguishing to try to assert oneself as different even though you're centered on the same shit as everyone else for a span of 20-30 years. A generation GENERAL REFLECTED 30 years. Its maybe down to 20, it most definitely isn't 15 or 10. In such short intervals is nothing but chaos and idiocy so its nothing of value trying to assert yourself into. Race relations were their best in the 90s/early 2000s. In many ways, you dumb fucks have reverted. The web was much more open. In many ways you dumb fucks have reverted. Grown faggots are still watching cartoons w/ gaped open soboy mouths.. In many cases, no one is growing up. Many are all stuck on the same dumb ass phenonomenon making everyone within a 20 year span a part of the same generation. Get it now? > MUH 5 year INTERVAL GENERATIONS AND CHIT.. WE GONNA DEFINE OURSELVES AS ATTACK HELICOPTERS AND CHIT.. THE PREVIOUS GENERATION DIDN"T DO THAT.. WE WUZ DIFFERENT AND CHIT gtfo here w/ that hot garbage

>all the while pulling the same "muh generation more enlightened than yours"
A footnote in the pages of history, Generation X is the most pointless generation to have ever existed. Nobody will care when they die. They will not be missed. They will not even be remembered (a positive considering the hypocricy and insanity of the boomers and millenials). Consisting of people born between the 1960s and the 1980s, this was a generation raised by the emergence of feminism, mtv and being raised by video games while their single mothers were busy earning the rent by spreading their legs. As with every generation after the Greatest Generation, Gen.X is extremely narcissistic, but, what makes them different from the saccharine hippie Boomer and the perpetually-triggered Millennial is a heavy dose of edgy nihilism. This nihilism-narcissism cocktail led Gen.X to embrace Nietzsche memes, a Greed is Good philosophy, and an assurance that everything was pointless so doing nothing made them superior to everyone else.
Camden Cruz
> I think it should be based on major social phenomena*, not fixed time gaps. *wars, emergence of life-changing techs This is what its based on and this tracked 30 year intervals. It now centers on 15-20 where I'd say moreso 20 due to obvious and idiotic regressions. > STEM suddenly being filled with 45% women It isn't. Stop believing everything MSM shoves down your throat. If anything, I would define a social cutoff to be how influenced a stupid faggot is by media and disinformation. In many ways, the younger generation is like boomers.. Believe in the most uninformed bullshit peddled by media corporations. Meanwhile, a middle generation knew better because they grew up in a true information age that wasn't tainted by profiteering whores at every corner trying to manipulate and disinform. Meanwhile, the dumb fuck boomer regression generation is out there thinking there are 51 genders and that race relations are bad... > BAN DA ASSAULT RIFLES.. > wtf is MSM? THESE FUCKING RETARDS DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT IS BRAINWASHING THEM > literal EECS at a literal top 10 university right now and it is literally filled with LITERAL 20% womyn Is this why Asia pacific is on track to blow the U.S the fuck out in tech? > but it's something like 60% in Chem and Industrial Engineering -- averaging out at around 45% for engineering as a whole. Chem/bio is female centric Next is stuff like : industrial/civE After that : MechE/CS And then finally EE/CE It filters out going into sophomore year. Most will end up changing majors. Frameworks make things easy and there are a lot of bullshit roles at companies. It's simple non-bullshit reasoning. To become a top developer requires dedication/passion. Looking pretty comes 2nd. Socialization comes second. Soft skills come second. etc etc... Not many men fit into this and even fewer women do. In tech, the majority of women will be asian/indian. Culturally, their people value intelligence and success highly so they are a match and blend in with male counterparts far better than the bullshit STEM WOMENZ shit you see in the U.S. In any event, this isn't a phenomenon that defines a generation as its transparent because tech centers mostly on meritocracy. If a woman has the chops, I see her just like I see a man. It's the social bullshit like third wave feminism/SKRONK WOMENZ/METOODAWG and SOYBOYFAGGOTMEN that you could set a generation apart by... and again 1980-2000 .. 2000-2020 is a whole different fuckn retard generation caught up in this bullshit.
Alexander Baker
There was pentium and even more ancient shit before that. The thing about actually having lived during those times is that you don't remember it because there was so much other shit that stacked on top and phased it out. Lan parties, full tower atx, Celeron over clocking, 1GB Hds.. yeah, that's somewhere in my memory but its a distant one. I'm sticking to 1980-2000 being one generation. The shit that came after or near 2000 is some other shit all together. This is what I relate the [I dont know my sexual gender], women are stronger than men, men are gapped mouth soy boy faggots, and a bunch of fucking morons who can't seem to get their shit together. Some of them are based but the broad majority are hooked on MSM disinformation and other social bullshit just like boomers. wtf are you on about? I stated a fact, you claimed it's wrong and somehow a left-wing propaganda, I said it's right b/c I know from first-hand experience, and you give me a wall of unintelligible text.
also cont. The sheer nihilism of X-fags created a generational consensus that everything was corrupt and in order to win, you too should become corrupt. The result of this philosophy destroyed once great companies and entire industries that imploded as the upstanding virtuous members of the Great and Silent generations were replaced with X-fags, whose corruption (including money laundering, scamming, lying about safety measures, and other degeneracy) was unprecedented, and the Boomers whose lazy "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" policies not only allowed the criminal activities of Gen X to go unpunished, but also actively attacked snitches. X was less of a generation and more of a disease. The sheer corruption in business, plus a fetish for leather jackets and trench coats, including blaxploitation films and an even more stinking pile of forced diversity makes Generation X, the Nigger Generation.

You're not strong because you have a crew cut or shaved head and tattoos. You INTO THAT kind of shit because you actually went through defining moments that turned you on to it. You stupid fucks have everything backwards. Dumb bitches get diked up because they think it gives them power. Meanwhile they're the weakest women who ever walked the face of the earth. Such insights and affirmations might not seem like they're worth much to you but I consider this time well spent. There were no claims of being superior, I simply highlighted how your sorry asses surely aren't.

I'm sorry but I don't consider schools beyond top 10 as proper institutions, so nation-wide average is quite worthless. I can't find stats on CMU website but anecdotally, the proportion more or less stays the same.
and I'm not following how filtering out potentially unreliable/garbage sources on the internet is possibly a bad thing. Weren't you just going on about our generation blindly absorbing anything thrown to us by the mass media?
