Yeah I went through a phase of heavy use when I was really stressed and it's definitely something you can develop a dependency for.
I basically just use it after the club now, or when I am at a festival.

kinda the same for me, well maybe not heavy use, but i took some (1 mg) every night for about 2/3 weeks, because i had a period where i couldn't get more than 3 hours of sleep per night and i was going crazy, so this was a welcome relief. i eventually started to develop a tolerance in the third week so i took 2 mg for a couple of nights, and while i slept quite good, it was weird. my piss was all oily, i was drinking a hell of a lot of water, and more importantly it made me all grumpy, nervous, fuzzy minded, and perhaps a bit depressed. i immediately stopped using it. i still take some occasionally but never more than one or two nights in a row.
my experience is no proper substitute for a study, so take this with a bit of salt, but err, given the lack of studies on the side-effects of melatonin, be careful.
This is a question i've been meaning to ask. Anyone care to tell us?
