Do I buy it?

If I want to replace my X220 fan, do I also need to buy some thermal paste?

>3d print custom nipples
>make loads of monies
tell me this is a solid business plan.

only if you can 3d print rubber in decent quality for cheaper than the chinks can churn them out

got a idea pad yoga 13 (super cheap and its in great shape) really liek it even though its not a think pad, what should i do with it? il probably just make it my comfy laptop i take around

Put it in the trash since it's not a thinkpad

I need something to shitpost and watch my taiwanese moving caricatures in comfort. I'd prefer something lightweight. I previously owned a T420 and that was too large for my gook hands, so I'd prefer something thinner or smaller. Talk me out of a used X1 Carbon and help me spend my $600 elsewhere.

You need to print one with a swastika I'm the pin.
Red.

So instead of waiting for one of you to tell me I'm stupid I bought it because I have no impulse control. I got this shit too.
How bad did I fuck up guys?

$200. Just want a decent sized screen to run archlinux on.

This:

Huh. Are the Dell and Thinkpad nubs perfectly compatible? If so I might get one to try it out.

Did IBM or Lenovo ever make a blue trackpoint or is that from a Dell

You did good, user. I don't know if this is your first Thinkpad but I have a T420s and the keyboard/trackpad is God tier. The screen less so but you get used to it. Congratulations.

Should I swap out the keyboard in my T430 for the classic one? How hard is it to remove the extra nubs?

yes

Stop making these shitty threads

It's fine if you buy 3rd Gen or newer

Is 14" big enough for you? T420
Want to be a freetard with libreboot? T400, T60 if 4:3

Its dell

I just got my first x230 with SSD, I'm waiting to receive the extra RAM.
What's the next step?
Also I'm planning to install some gnu/linux.
I've used xububtu in the past but I think I might be going for kde openSUSE.. thoughts?

Now you just use it. After a couple of weeks the coolness will wear off and you'll be like, "what's the big deal?" and "the screen sucks". You'll work with it for a while then you'll get tempted to move on. You'll try to do that and you'll realize what makes the T/X/220/230/420/430 special and you'll be ruined for anything else.

Sounds depressing

Windows touchpad drivers for t430 and x230 (and others I assume) are horrible, they're unusable. Luckily I don't use Windows but holy shit it's embarrassing.

Real thread

Please help

The X220 is several years old. If you are going to the trouble of opening it up, why not do some other maintenance. Clear out the dust, make sure everything looks good, *reapply thermal paste*, etc. I mean, why the fuck not?

Mainly cause I'd need to go out and buy thermal paste I guess.

What else should I do? So far I have a can of compressed air and a replacement fan/heat sink.
