Am I inventing the next hot meme genre and what would you call it?

ASMR is the biggest scam perpetrated on the media-consuming public since The Grammys

lowercasmr?
Pronounced low-er-kay-ess-ehm-arr

can say im an audio major who likes field recordings and the idea of binaural audio

but asmr is just stupid to me.

>never felt the tingles
I pity your kind I really do

Asmr shit like girls whispering and coming their hair is for perverts to get off to but many composers have explored the timbral nuances of it like Alvin Lucier among others and I think it is a valid musical dynamic

Agreed. I'm a sound enginer, acoustical engineer, and currently getting my masters in clinical audiology and it's just a curiosity, and the effects seem to be completely self-fulfilling. Like telling someone something is too sweet before you ask them to taste it or that everyone else loves a song before they hear it.

I think peoples' reactions and interest in ASMR is more interesting than ASMR itself. Also I find so much of it is done with such little understanding of pyschoacoustics and mic techniques that it's embarassing how fake the so-called "experts" are half the time. Like homeopathy masquarading as medicine type thing. But I digress... I still think people should like and create whatever they want. They ain't hurtin' nobody, it's all just for entertainment.

exactly the videos ive seen friends watch show pretty much what you are saying.

you can like what you want, i get more from a well recorded environment than someone rubbing a toothbrush on a microphone.

dude it's just porn what the fuck are you all talking about?

wew lad, alright

It's not really about liking the sound of it, it really is a discrete physical response that people are trying to induce. Some people get it and some don't but it's a little weird when people who don't get the same experience seem to be incapable of understanding that it could possibly exist.

It's like those people that hate cilantro. They don't just hate it the same way you hate mayonnaise, they have a completely different physiological response to it than you do.

How many so-called ASMR fans listen to fat ugly dudes whisper/chew?

Zero.

Why is it only cute girls they listen to?

It really makes you think...

I believe user. I just don't get why it's a fad to listen to details of movement and speech in order to evoke a physical reaction. It's like having tons of people suddenly interested in optical illusions or pic relateds. You can stimulate and evoke physical reactions from tons of different things.

Are you calling Bob Boss fat, my dude?

ASMR just makes people feel calm. It's not even about the tingles. Though it can cause goosebumps very easily.

And there's at least one good ASMR guy, I'm literally listening to him now.
youtube.com/watch?v=CwYsccx6Fyk

>It's not even about the tingles
it is for me. It's my fucking drug.

omfg this guy. he is sooooo fucking lame. why do i feel like the people who eat this shit up are like cavemen being shown a flashlight for the first time. where the fuck have you all been where in 2016 a flashlight is so impressive?

...I'm really confused by your post.
is this avant shitposting

Radiolab had an episode about it a few years ago I think. Their point was just that it's always happened to some people but nobody talked about it. Then there was the internet and suddenly enough people started realizing they weren't the only ones that had this weird response to certain sounds. These videos have been around for YEARS though so I'm kinda with you. I don't know why they're suddenly a meme now.

it was an analogy. binaural recordings and people talking aren't new. this guy has no particular expertise nor is he doing anything new or unique and yet people are enamoured by it the way cavemen would be by an electric flashlight.

>decades worth of ambient, field recording and low-level music to be listened to
>nah, I'm going to listen to youtube videos of idiots in their bedroom whispering into a microphone

jesus christ

it's like the ambient equivalent of Sup Forumsirgins listening exclusively to video game OSTs

Do...do you think we're treating ASMR like high art or something
Dude how fucking dumb are you lmao

>Do...do you think we're treating ASMR like high art or something
not at all

this

One of the links in the OP is Steve Roden but if you have better suggestions we can make this a lowercase thread too.

I used to do this a lot but with biaural beat instead of lowercase. It was nice for both studying and relaxing.

Nobody's listening to ASMR because we think we're exploring musical taste or anything we/they do it because they want that calming/tingling sensation

Fuck off, nobody cares about your boring experimental music.

Ephemeral Rift is great desu, probably one of the best out there, and easily the best male asmr artist.

Just curious: do you have a particular asmr artist that you prefer or if are you just not particularly into asmr in general? It's fine if you're not

these faggots think people listen to ASMR because we think of it the same way as Lowercase for fuck's sake

what fucking pathetic kids they are

I wonder what their RYM profiles are

i like christen noel

I's probably different for everyone but this person hits me hard

I like what you're saying about how incredibly vast the archives of all field recordings are, it is pretty cool. But I think it's apples to oranges really. I listen to asmr for completely different purposes than I would listen to field recordings. Honestly Im not sure that field recordings are necessarily music but I feel they are definitely grouped in with music. Asmr on the other hand, I would say, is definitely not music.

Dope, def checking these out tonight

I really do care about the boring experimental music tho

Someone recommend me some good lowercase field recordings.

>I listen to asmr for completely different purposes than I would listen to field recordings.
fucking this
how do they not understand this

just like sometimes i'll look at a female because she's talking at a meeting at work, and sometimes i'll look at one for the purposes of jerking off. i get it.

an asmr video that turns into a field recording of the woman after shes turned her camera off and is now just stirring about in a quiet, empty room. That would be tight.

This. I rarely even watch other people's videos. I usually just fall asleep to ASMR, but sometimes I'll watch it during the day just to relax. I don't get tingles much, mainly because I've become somewhat immune to them in ASMR videos, but it's nice when I do get them.

I like this name

the ear cleaning asmr videos are the only ones that ever get to me

user just for you I'm gonna cum in the ear of my binaural mic rig. Email?

[email protected]

that makes my ears itch

everyone likes a portmanteau

>they do it because they want that calming/tingling sensation

Why not just listen to experimental music for that instead of watching shitty annoying youtube videos.

I think this thread is about doing both.
