posting proto-shoegaze

Hey has anything good been released this year? I need something shugazi to help me wait until there's a new Smiling Disease release.

hey does anyone have a link to this

just got that lush from earlier this year, i guess ill post my thoughts about this after a few listens

pinkshinyultrablast maybe?

Already heard it, anything else?
I also listened to that Sound of Ceres thing and I liked it a lot but I'm pretty tired of it now aside from maybe Side A and Dagger Only Run.

Deerhoof has some new stuff but I haven't heard it yet

Oh yeah, did that album come out yet? I thought it's due in like a few days or something.

The new Citrus Nowhere EP
There's some new The White Tulips as well, but I have yet to listen.
The Florist just released something.
The piqnic now known as qujaku is THE hottest band imo rn. Check them out on soundcloud.

also hi guys

sup dude

What albums are you all excited for?

Looking forward to True Widow.
I'll deffo give the new The Earth Earth a listen too, although I wasn't much a fan of the new single.

you ever see True Widow live?

I think it leaked. Got it from what.cd.

I fucking wish. I can guess they will have a supporting tour for the album so fingers crossed that they come through SLC. I missed them in Portland on their last tour.

damn this be good
It's like The Novembers, but not total shit
soundcloud.com/qujaku/meruren

o shit cool

awesome, thanks for the recs, never heard of any of these

Can I get more like this, please? youtube.com/watch?v=rDJ6Hj1ab3M

I love the haunting and looming guitars on this track! m b v is a bit similar, but I'm not looking for the denser sounds featured on it.

youtube.com/watch?v=3yMYaInfz-k any other sort of weird dancey noisy tracks?

one guy has it on soulseek in 320

i can never really get into shoegaze because whatever i listen to is never as good as Loveless ;n; help

Try Kinoko Teikoku's earlier work? Japanese Shoegaze is really nice.

There's the vocaloid shoegaze guy called Siesta on Sunday who probably has the best glide guitar impression I've ever heard.

Listen to dream pop instead.

Loveless might be the best shoegaze album, but it's nowhere near the best dream pop album.

I love that track
it's my favorite for driving down the highway at night

Hey what's the shoegaze equivalent of Busdriver?
Like overtly technical and jokey.
There probably wouldn't be cause those things are like the opposite of the things that make up shoegaze.
But if there is, that would be cool.

This is definitely an amazing track. Lots of Bowery Electric gives me the same vibes. Dive also a few similar tracks like 3.00 AM Flow, Coma Dub and Shore Cosmos Pacifica.

Loveless is not the endgame. If you want to hear something that sounds exactly like My Bloody Valentine, check out the album Matador is Dead by The Earth Earth. Same style hooks and riffs, older pop style like early mbv and great use of feedback for both transitioning riffs and larger buildups.
Also the album mbv is kinda underrated. It's an extremely cohesive album that was slammed a little too harsh by people here when it came out.

No problem, I listen to lots of asian shoegaze.

Love that track. A timeless classic.
music.youtube.com/watch?v=kamXvqoL_JA&feature=share
The guitar tone on the bridges in this track are impeccable, esp. for 1965.

Hey guiz, check out this hidden gem
youtu.be/6eF7vuRkR2o
Download links would be much appreciated. It's not on jpopsuki.

bump

I tried listening to loveless
I liked the opening track
then i got kinda bored and the harsh sounds put me off

how do i get into this kind of music?

>loveless
>harsh
If you think this, try dream pop. Broadcast and Melody's Echo Chamber are often recommended together as good neo-psych/dream pop groups.

It's definitely not that harsh, at least in comparison to artists like cosmicdust, astrobrite and medicine. If you want to keep trying out shoegaze, try Swirlies or luminoussuperorangeplastic by Luminous Orange. What You've Done and Chapter 22 are particularly good off that album.

So I guess the new The White Tulips is a rerelease, but it's still pretty damn good.

Bought tix for Boris/Earth today. Who is going?

bump

I'm going to the San Francisco show.

Just got home, I'll try these out right now. I love you, friends!

I get really relaxed listening to this and similar stuff. I would end up nodding off, for sure.

Listen to Slowdive's Souvlaki, then Ride's Nowhere, then SPC ECO's 3D.

Repeat like 5 times, and then give Loveless another go.

As a diehard fan of the genre, I don't like any of these albums. Why do they standout to most people? Genuinely curious, not trying to be rude.

I've always thought mbv was stronger than Ride and Slowdive.

bump with some SUPER SEXY vocaloid
youtu.be/41zr9dFk87M

They're just kind of a big part of the foundation of shoegaze. The rep comes from the influence. Also they're good.

Souvlaki and Nowhere are less shoegaze and more dream pop or jangle pop/alt rock while Loveless is pretty much the definitive shoegaze. I like the former albums not particularly for the shoegazey aspects but more for the fun.

LSD and the Search for God, pinkshinyultrablast, Pity Sex, and Nothing all had good releases this year.

I'm actually sitting waiting for Nothing to come on right now. Should be good.

Try this. It's a Loveless worship album that's a bit more accessible.

Yeah, foundation or influence or whatever. You say they are good so say why. Let's have a dialogue here.

Personally I have nothing to say. Definitely not bad albums, but they accomplish nothing for me. Time for a relisten.

They are fun? That is why you would recommend them?

What are your favorite tracks off of the Nothing album?

Second this. Wondered Why is such a dream.

Lift To Experience has returned, shugazi.
I believe they are going to announce more shows and finish their proposed trilogy starting with the Post-Apocalypse Blues.

youtube.com/watch?v=mIPzmwswLbQ
Will they save shugazi?

>Will they save shugazi?
I don't know why that keeps being said in these threads.

Cause we're scared or in mourning or in denial over shugazi's death.

Fav tracks off Tired for Tomorrow are probably Vertigo Flowers, ACD, and Eaten by Worms.

>That is why you would recommend them?
I'm a different person. Nowhere is absolutely a fun album. Seagull, Kaleidoscope, Polar Bear, and Vapor Trail are almost The Smiths-esque though less cheery. Souvlaki is less "fun" but still a very solid album. Alison is one of the best dream pop songs ever imo

>people don't like wonder 2
How come? I consider it to be one of MBV's best. It's easily their most psychedelic and dizzying song and whatever "unfocusedness" it has just adds to that.

>brother typically listens to really wordy, technical, sometimes hardcore hip-hop
>tell him about Cocteau Twins on a whim
>he really likes them

music for this feel? it's a good one

Thanks mayne

There are definitely some tracks on those albums that are great. Polar Bear has a nice groove and beat that are unmatched by many rock/pop songs.

It's a stand out track and hopefully it influences artists in the future. mbv has all sorts of these tracks that span varying styles while still clearly coming from the same place. Glider, Tremolo are so goddamn underrated with these sort of tracks as a result of Loveless and YMMR taking all the spotlight.

>Will they save shugazi?
If they don't the new Slowdive record should

That last DIIV album was quite good.

>new slowdive record comes out
>threads get bombarded with newcomers asking how to get into the genre as if there is something to get
>we all end up give the same recommendations to these people over and over
>the genre becomes dead to us as we realize we are repeating the same things
But I guess it will give us a reason to have a thread?

OH hell yeah! JUSTICE WILL UNFOLD.

Sick, definitely gonna have to see them live if they come to SF.

Hey guys just wondering, is this the thread where we hit the bump limit?

what's everyone's favorite cover on pic related?
I like To Here Knows When
it turns the track into a ambient kinda thing while retaining the original feel

anymore laid back ambiemt drone gaze .?.

youtube.com/watch?v=RiBeHq6l1oQ

shonen knife

yep

That cover reminds me: Beatless is a brilliant shugazi album.
youtube.com/watch?v=Nfm-fehAYx0

My favorite off that is probably the Norweigan Wood cover. What's yours?

Broken Little Sister is on the comeback it looks like.

Across The Universe, hands down.

Underrated band: The Autumns
youtube.com/watch?v=ai2Q5KYEQtg

How the fuck did they use to make the melody in Soon? Is that a violen?

It's sampled guitar feedback made to sound like a flute.

These two are some of the best of the genre. Lilys Eccsame the Photon Band is more rock, but I still get a lot of the same feels. The songs are very disjointed in structure with about half of them delving into ambient/drone for no apparent intended reason. I lay down to this sometimes.

Have you listened to the entire Astrobrite discog? Cortez consistently makes good albums.

Ok I figured it was either supposed to be a flute or a violin. Thanks user

Has anyone listened to the new Starflyer 59 album, Slow?

I didn't know it was a guitar. For feedback it's very smooth. Medicine's feedback riffs are much more aggressive and harsh.

I gave it a listen. It's not shoegaze at all but the songs are alright. Nothing on the album has a ton of emotional weight like the stuff he was writing on albums like Gold, but they're pleasant and melancholy. He even said himself in an interview that this is the only album he went in without a clear vision first, just making unrelated songs. He even said that some of them aren't that good, he was just making what he felt like making. Also at some point he says, "I love you rong time".

Yeah, for that song and maybe for others, I'm not sure, they recorded some feedback and put it through a sampler to play like a keyboard.

There are a lot of songs on Isn't Anything that I think obscure the guitar with out any kind of sampling. Lots of detail went into the recording processes clearly. They are all good, what a lovely band.

Anybody got a dl link? Really digging these covers

I keep seeing this album cover.
Should I listen to this record?
What are your thoughts?

Is this how they did When You Sleep as well?

Yes

Also the Nothing show was pretty good

Yeah, it's like a gentle noise album and the bad features Scott Cortez of Astrobrite's most interesting guitar work. Weird how he never implemented this kind of nuance you find in llc tracks to his pop songs.

hey has anyone else heard this
it's called Repertório infindável de dolorosas piadas
it's by gorduratrans
idk what any of it means

oh and it's free on bnadcam p

gorduratrans.bandcamp.com/

Is there any good French shoegaze that's not M83?

Yikes, this is fucking good.
Thanks for the push, guys.

fug i just started listening to this and it's really great
it's like the type of powerful distorted melancholy i wanted the title fight type bands to start doing but they never did it right.

but these guys
holy fuck

just hit another level listening to haha sounds
sort of like a lucid dream that was guided by a narrative of lullabies
body could not move, eyes were shut, but I was fully conscious
fun times

Really fucking good. I wish more artists took cues from this album.

>tfw the archive is now blocked in the US
man what the fuck how am i gonna get those shugazi shares when i remember them

alcest?

I'm also a fan of that album, although I haven't heard any other broken little sister stuff.

thanks, this isn't bad

I desperately want to hear the reverse of this.

Loveless but done in the style of the Beatles.

Are people still hating on whirr?
I think their music is really good so i didn't care at all about the drama

youtube.com/watch?v=KJnKmPl2cgA

Shame their record label dropped them after the spat with the tranny

yeah, run for cover is a great label. wish they could stay

People's feelings are evidently more important than good music

i wish some people wouldn't suck

Can anyone recommend more songs like 'Where you sleep' and 'sometimes' by Mbv? I need more songs like these

>I need more songs like these
You need them? Great. Then you're motivated, and have desire, and you're compelled to satiate those cravings and explore music to do so.

Now go do that instead of asking to be spoonfed like a fucking child.

post chart pls

Here's one. There are several.

Next time, go here: 4chanmusic.wikia.com/wiki/Essential_Charts.

Link is in the sticky, which is the thread that was intentionally situated at the top of the board, so people wouldn't ask stupid as fuck questions like this. Be sure to spread this information to your underage, directionless, poser friends so they'll never not be told what to listen to and when, and will "explore" music without any sense of agency or sincere interest.

Have a good fucking day.

Or, y'know, just use Google, like any intelligent, sensible human being might.

Goddamn you people are fucking retarded.

can we not post these charts?
