I'm making a music manager/player that i'll release in beta in a few months.

I want to make the UI better. A kind user suggested the layout for (2).

Which looks/is better? Also UI suggestions are welcome in general.

I prefer the left one

I prefer #1 tbqhwy

OP here. Just forgot to say that 1 (left) has the advantage of a bigger album art pic.

What if you make the seekbar (Is that what it's called) go from top to bottom or vice versa, instead of left to right?

What the fuck? This makes me cringe in a way I didn't know existed. Explain why that is better user.

I don't think it's better or worse.
I'd just be interested in seeing how it would look. Since all the seekbars I've seen go from left to right, probably due to the fact that we read from left to right (Although there are expeptions)

Please make the buttons equal-sized.
Also, what are you using to make this, OP?

I don't think having all of the buttons the same size looks good. I have the pause button big because it's the most used/looked at button. If other anons want same sized buttons i'll package as an option.

I use Python and Tkinter.
I then use cx_Freeze to make it all work out of the box and generate a single msi.

The buttons are the fine the way they are, good user.

right is better but you should have settings you massive faggot. no one wants a music player they can't customize.

You're not wrong on button sizes

Loads of popular music players (eg, windows media player and co.) use the same design philosophy

>doesn't see SETTINGS in the top menu bar

Why do you think I have the settings dropdown? This is just to decide the default/cutting edge layout.

I'll even have last fm settings/scrobbling because my fellow anons voted for it.

Dark theme pls

This is an example of a setting I call "retro mode".
It just shows the album name in the description instead of the bold.

left

I second this

#1 just looks cleaner and would probably prevent user error, like clicking a track rather than the seek bar. Also, larger album artwork is always a good thing

Can't you put the seek bar in the bottom and leave the rest as in the 2? I think it would look good

i'm actually kinda excited for this. i'm not much of a fan of all of the repetitive information (artist and album listed in each song), but other than that it looks pretty solid and minimalistic. good job, user

I agree with you on the repetitive example you mentioned, but for some reason it doesn't bother me enough to change it.
Otherwise it would be too much white space I think. I'll keep thinking about this one though.

Anyways i'm glad at least some of you guys are excited, even when I don't show most impressive parts.
The searching is literally instant, most of my alpha testers were amazed. Just need to scan library once for ID3s.

I'll make a webm when i'm not lazy, shit is crazy. I'm not even using an ssd. Also have a nearly instant lyric viewer.

Not a bad idea, need to tinker with it in a demo though. I'll probably include it in the options.

I thought it looked best in the top right while dickying with foobar's settings.

that's a nice foobar setup user

>send email & nicely ask to download a beta
>no replies after a week
f-fuck off with your shit software
right is better
I had enough feedback user to sift through, but if you are interested i'll get you my bleeding edge build.
Just shoot me an email or reply now.

left

I third this

Oh, OP again. I forgot that a few anons gave me emails that I couldn't reply to with my attachment. Send me the request from a different email.

Post a screenshot of a good dark scheme and i'll try to replicate it.

ok
i just want to test if it works smoothly with my massive library (+460GB)

What reason would people have for using your music player over musicbee, foobar or other popular music players?

Musicbee and Foobar are both very excellent, and better software than my own without doubt.

My goal was to make the perfect music manager for ME, which musicbee and foobar aren't.
The search is instant, unlike my foobar or musicbee. I also have a ton of hotkeys that make navigation fast as fuck.

I need to make a webm and show you guys the navigation. You can do it all by keyboard and get around fast as fuck.

I also think the UI is starting to get sexy.

What'd you make the UI with? Also will it be open source?

please report back. I need big library feedback the most as it's my biggest problem.
It's amazing the amount of shit that can go wrong when you have thousands of albums.

mail sent

I sent, check junkmail.

Tkinter and Pygubu.

I would still say half of the UI design is literally coded in python.

Yes it will be open source on beta release.

did you get? if so could it catch your half tb collection?

yeah got it & installed! I was planning to send you a replay mail. anyway.

- my library is shared on several disk partitions, so I can't scan my entire library :C
ie.foobar can manage several folders (pic related).

- the scan stops at ~34% of several 100GB folders (even after several restarts, library.txt cleanings, etc)

just copied this, thanks yo

no prob bob.

if you wanted to save a second.

Hey OP here

Just might have fixed a really big and weird bug with the larger libraries, the most common bug in my first alpha release actually.

If you have over 50gb of music and are interested, i'll send you the bleeding edge alpha release for testing.

I'll only send a few out, email me at [email protected]

needs more tabs and ads, lads

aren't those psychedelic drugs?

bump sent a few out already and am about to pass out.

thanks for all the advice. will make a thread when I hit next milestone

Is meta-data editable in player?

not yet, but soon I plan to. shouldn't take that long. maybe next milestone.

I also don't get this. You need more treeview/grid space to make searching a lot of items easily. Seeing 3 tracks at a time sucks...

right is better

That'd be great, I'd dowload it

Needs scrobbling

I prefer the right, though there should be some option to allow a bigger album art view

seconding this
