Does anyone of you use foley sound effects in their music? I guess they give your produtions a more organic sound.

Heres a clyp:
clyp.it/zh4ubhbe

I sometimes use field recording samples for a similar effect

clyp.it/arb314mb

that sounds really really nice gives it a great feeling to it

Im tryna figure out how to use those sounds to create those organic percussion/drums like sorrow or burial.

youtube.com/watch?v=z_7skqY6wTM
youtube.com/watch?v=nMr-oEtGH7c

I need a keyboard with 8 zones (and each zone to be able to have its own midi channel)

don't really care much about weighted keys, pads etc etc

any recs?

thanks

clyp.it/bjup1ww5

rate this beat I just made

What would you call the effect that tim hecker uses often in his music where it pans back and fourth with fluttering electronics? Thanks

These are nice.

I do a bit of field recording for fun, i use a zoom h2n so nothing too high tech...currently trying to work a recording of my footsteps on a gravel path into a kinda shaker/hi-hat sound in a track

How you make the synth starting at :35? I can't make the synth smack like that
m.youtube.com/watch?v=XPGtOugQ69U

nice! what artists should i listen to for music like this? instrumentals prefered but vocals are ok too

clyp.it/2qxjb5ic

i know i've posted this a few times already but i really want to get the mix as tight as possible

anything harsh?
is the bass clashing with anything
any just plain unappealing sounds?

also fix your ducking it fucks up the flow of the track

you mean the sidechain?

what do you mean? as in what's my inspiration?

>you mean the sidechain?
yes

as in artists that sound like this ( but good ;^) )
yes post your inspiration

also bb i'm going to bed

Arca, Oneohtrix Point Never, Flying Lotus, Machinedrum, Flume, Sango

But you won't be able that does it like I do bby ;)

I'm loving how the sidechain sounds though

You mean controllers with only 5-pin right? No USB?

Those would be some insane specs, Roland was the king of midi controllers with many well thought out features, but most of the time they would only transmit two channels at once.

just mold those sounds into nice percussive instruments. the key to how burial does it is mostly in the sequencing though.

Should I just do it?

what other gear do you have?

follow your heart. if you can do it, just do it then. regret it later

I think Mutable Instruments used to sell a midi device that would give a standard midi keyboard tons of other feature, such as chords/scales, arpeggio and even multiple zones/layers.

Lots. I have a JX-10, but it's impossible to gig with, both being gigantic and knobless. I usually gig with a Minimoog and a combo organ, sometimes just the organ

I also have a blofeld that can sit right on top where the tetra would go, I don't gig with the blofeld because I've never had a good parking space for it.

Potentially, it would be replacing the Minimoog for most band gigs

Also, just an FYI for people ITT, the blofeld sounds like trash in the upper octaves. Not like shitty DAC trashiness that makes old samplers sweet, more like aliasing and missing partials. Still a great synth though.

then i'd say go for it, you can alway sell it or return it if it doesn't work out

True, it's sweetwater, and they've always been good to me.

Goodbye $900

no one?

Can i get some feedback on this mix?
how is the bass?

clyp.it/y015zt5g

Arturo's made a beatstep in black? Hope they do it to the beatstep pro, cause I'm going to need another one at some point.

>clyp.it/y015zt5g
how do u manage to make such shitty music with such good equipment?

>Arturo's
Lmao. You know what I meant.

Is the Suzuki Omnichord worth getting off of eBay? Is it overhyped? Any experience?

Get one with midi out

same way you do :^)

yeah, it was on sale for $90 and i needed something to sequence the modular, figured id try it out. How is the pro?

>how is the pro
Fantastic. The trigger outs are great for running other sequencers or external drums (think tiptop 808 clones). After you learn how to chain sequences, it's extremely powerful.

I made my interpretation of a generic rap beat in the style of the one and only DJ mustard

clyp.it/k5mj4k3s

howd i do

can you create your own synths in PureData to load into a DAW like Reaper? how?

looks like MIDIpal is what you're referring to. Looks sick and it does exactly what I need. Its been discontinued for a while, but there are a few clones out there with improvements. thank you!

sup /prod/

what do you think of this hip hop beat?
i had a jay z acapella laying around so i quickly warped it around to see how it would sound like. it's pretty offbeat but i don't have another acapella nor the patience to warp the vocals more carefully

clyp.it/5clhictj

clyp.it/p23unvai

woke up and had this melody in my head

i hope its from somesong i have heard once in my life because it sure doesnt sound like anything original or special but i just want this melody to leave me

i hope ur not serious senpai
in case u are, u should adjust your key
bretty gud but the vocals are distracting and fucked up

im not i threw it together in over the course of an hour

for a second it almost sounds like that A Warm Place by NIN

congrats on managing to be this boring

around 1:44 seems a bit awkward with the sidechain. otherwise it sounds okay to me

guess i shoulda mentioned that i imagined some choir singing instead of the piano but goddamn it i can somehow see/hear that

I'm not sure I like how emphasized the drums are

i actually just chopped and reversed the strum
idk why but i thought i might be able to get away with it
thanks for letting me know definitively that i can't lol

thanks user!

depends on the price, the kordbot which looks like a way more advanced omnichord is $250

you need to approach dub techno in a different way man

help me be less shit
clyp.it/3r3op23k

kek
how about some comments on the mix? I could care less about options on a compositon i made in 10 min with no note or chord changes

congrats on mixing a song with no note or chord changes

While everyone is on the topic of mixing, how would I go about mixing and mastering a track I have completed actually composing? What are my goals aside from "dont let it peak"?

just route everything into a mono midi port

K

Mixing and mastering is about as complex as errything else but it always boils down to 'whatever sounds good m8'. Look up some tutorials, but for now get an EQ in which you can analize your frecuencies and smooth the 'peaking' of frecuencies until you have a tight little sausage. Also google Pink Noise mixing, it will save you so much time its unreal

asap rocky/clams casino

>clyp.it/y015zt5g

3muddy5me

I would change that kick to something not so fruity loops sounding, and make a new intro bassline. otherwise, it's an alright song

Honestly a better meme than anything else we've got

clyp.it/mdcsq2sg
posted this in the other thread but it died shortly after. all the synth sounds are from pic related which is a p. neat diy kit paraphonic synth. excuse the sloppy bass playing, it was just a quick take to get an idea for the bassline down.

Best site to get plugins vst's and stuff?

soulja boy up in it ooooooooo

google 'best free vst synths' and go through the list from 2005-20016, and then do the same with 'best free vst effects'
if you don't like freeware for some odd reason, then i can' thelp you, because it's illegal to steal

I didn't say I wanted free stuff, I just want a good place to buy or get for free.

What's a good midi controller? I might get an MPK25 unless there's something better for less $$

quads LOL!

MPK25 doesn't have mono midi, which is kind of important these days.

>ive stolen all of my software and never gave a cent to the audio fatcats

whos with me?

>i've never owned hardware

stay pleb

Anyone here have a good method of using windows VSTs on OSX?

I've been experimenting with this method, but it's pretty complicated and I haven't gotten it working quite yet:
diaphone.blogspot.com/2010/12/11.html

I've got it so that I can get the plugins running as a standalone, but I haven't gotten to the point where they're usable in a DAW.

stop trying to fuck around and just make music

I redid the mixing on this track with pink noise like suggested (among other things) and it ended up sounding better imo

clyp.it/0ojrswhm

Nah fuck that, there's some windows plugins that I want to use

Also I'm not a producer; I'm an audio engineer and there's some shit I want to mix with. Audio Utopia just cracked Slate Digital's plugins, but only for windows.

Pretty groovy, can you tell me more about that synthesizer?

I'm trying to get into producing jungle/intelligent dnb. Any tips or criticism appreciated.

I can't take credit for the breakbeat sample, it came from a sample pack.

clyp.it/2skywqrk

Other than being way too long and boring the mix sounds good. The only thing that sounded off was the Bass

>intelligent dnb

fucking millennials

This is so nice. Where can I hear more.

clyp.it/fir3m5ob

What's the piano sampled from? Groovy.

Damn, what happened to the Lunga's?

Anyways, since I'm on Linux, and in general I want to pursue a more raw, lo-fi sound comparable to producers like Disrupt and Stenobot, I was curious what Tracker is the best when it comes to ease of use.

Jeskola?

Milkytracker?

Sunvox?

A tracker I don't know about because I'm a pleb?

Renoise?

Doodz help

soulseek and look for 320 kbps mp3s or flac.

sure 320 mp3 isn't great but no one is probably going to hear it or care anyway

is a key change in a song just raising the melody or chords by a fifth?

Can I please get some feedback of this track?

I posted it a little while ago, i'm still not convinced it sounds "finished" or mastered well enough..

clyp.it/xarwj342

so, what genres of music do you produce?

I mean it just means changing the key. If the key is C, changing to C# would be a key change.

That's what it's called. Personally I don't think it is any more "intelligent" than other music. Kinda like "math" rock.

Do you have anything /prod/uctive to say?

If it's one song just go and buy it unless it's some super rare cut.

Hi guys, not sure where else I could post this and get a quick answer, but I wanna get this little box basically to run my vocals through it and delay them. If there's an aux and headphones input, I'll be able to plug the mic directly into the monotron through the aux, then run a cable from the headphone jack into an amp right? I just want to make sure it'll work before buying it. Sorry this is a stupid question.

Trying to program drums for this piano loop

clyp.it/cgltwpyk

Lads, what timing is this in? I'm trying to do a 4/4 beat but it doesn't feel right

first time hearing it, sounds spot on to me

Yeah that should work fine. The aux is 3.5mm jack so you may well need an adapter for your mic. Same with the output.
Beware it's a gritty sounding little fucker though. I love mine.

That's what I figured, luckily I already have some adapters. But fuck dude that's basically my setup! I have the Volca Keys with a midi controller attached, it's incredible. Looking to get the FM soon.

A "Key" is just the scale you use to base all the music on. So if the scale you're using is C major, you're in C major. If you start playing centering around a different note than C, you're probably changing key, and you begin making all the music around a different scale.

If you think of a key as the bass note you always return to, imagine a key change is when you consistently return to a new bass note that is different than the original one. So for a whole song you're been spamming C in the bass, then there's a section when spamming D# feels much more right, so that part is probably in a different key.

Have a look at this guys videos:
youtube.com/watch?v=5Y01jIorpeA

pretty good stuff, he covers a lot.

If you want to get more advanced check out ArtofCounterpoint's videos too, for more in-depth harmony and actual counterpoint

How's the keys? I was undecided between the keys and bass, but had a play with both in a shop and the bass seemed like it was most intuitive at the time for me. I think I might end up with both the fm and keys eventually, although some outboard effects are next on the list I think. I think you'll like sending the keys through the Monotron too, it makes the bass seem a lot more usable.

It's been outstanding so far, I never thought I'd be able to make such nice sounding grooves but it's so easy to pick up and mess with. Knob twiddling is fun to no end as well

Fugues

It's funny all the hate I hear for the Volca "toys" considering the price and sounds you can get out of them. I was so surprised by the bass (and the sample) 3 tuneable VCO's, nice sounding filter, and a step sequencer for £100. Ok it's made out of plastic but I think the build quality is fine for studio use.

It's the weekend /prod/ two days of making weird noises and crunchy beats.
What's everyone working on?

Would any anons feel like working on a /prod/ project? Maybe someone upload a few samples and we all make a track using just those samples?
