bump

What's considered "high art" though? What strandards must it meet to get this consideration

youtube.com/watch?v=xdImDqbgc2g

nothing else user, this is his magnum opus album

youtube.com/watch?v=PetMOOBCAgg

Pure audio and visual art.

Unironically: Kanye's 'Famous' video.

No it's not MBDTF isn't even at good, it's over hyped, even Kanye thinks so.

Then what is? Yeezus? cmon user, stop being a contrarian

youtube.com/watch?v=pXRviuL6vMY

It's not contrarian. There's nothing innovative about it, it's just Kanye backtracking.

His best album is Pablo followed by 808s.

Late Registration is probably his best.

I have the feeling that he's the Thom Yorke/Radiohead of rap, where he realizes that he struck creative gold early on and that his first three albums were his artistic pinnacle, objectively speaking, and everything since has been him trying to play with the formula to see what he can get from the new sounds/ideas without the pressure of trying to top what he already knows was his best work.

TLDR: College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation are Yeezy's Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer, and are likewise his strongest work objectively speaking. He knows this, and everything else he has done since has been Kid A/In Rainbows/King of Limbs-tier experimentation.

his best album is College Dropout you plebs

Saying Kanye's worst is his best.

Saying Tom York or radiohead are even good, let alone innovate or interesting.

ooh, quite the spicey one we have here

If anything i'll opt out for LateReg being his best

No.

objective kanye west ranking:

cd > 808s > lr > mbdtf > grad > pablo > yeezus

I really like the 'the less I know the better' music video, but I was tripping the first time I saw it so maybe I'm biased.

Dont be upset user, what are your top 3 kanye songs

this one is probably the one that comes closest tbqhwy (to be quite honest with you) OP

youtube.com/watch?v=3yDP9MKVhZc

Putting yeezus last? are you from sweden or something?

>high art

wew

this ranking is just about perfect for me actually

>death grips lite: the album

ye is complete fucking garbage when he's parroting existing trends in hip hop, and poorly

and Runaway is middle brow anyway, not 'High Art'. just like the FKA twigs video I posted

On Sight is a more abrasive and experimental beat than anything death grips have made, lost boys and hot head come close

No

Pablo>808s>Yeezus>Graduation>CD>MBTDF>LR

Street Lights
Lost in a World
Guilt Trip

>OP sees 5 X 5 thread
>Sees MBDTF
>Looks it up on YouTube
>Sees this video
>"Wow that was so artsy and avant garde! I'm going to make a thread about it!"

This is why this board has gone to shit. Fuck you

Kanye thinks he's an aesthete, but his taste (porn stars, luxe signifiers of high/white society) is mundane.

Death Grips aren't the first or only artist to do experimental hip hop. Stop comparing a good artist to your meme bullshit becuase it's the only thing you know.

youtu.be/39Ilo1KBKpg

I'm not even kidding, this one is utterly god-tier

t. Art History major

Runaway will never be topped maybe other albums are more consistent but none of them has something close to runaway

Fucking this. Runaway's video is "high art" to someone with little to no experience with art.

lol

>cd that low

get out nu kanye

DUDE BLACKIE LMAO

like no shit ppl have done death grips before death grips but obviously that's where ye got the ideas from.

agreed, the new video is the best thing he's done since MBDTF, the song and the album are still shit though

name something better

What makes the video good? He took someone else's idea and inserted his porn star friends into it.

808s > Yeezus > LR > MBDTF > CD >>> Grad >>>>> Pablo

Alright those three songs are sweet desu, you have my love

Samefag here.

Also, ANY of Peter Gabriel's videos from the 80s, and most of Kate Bush's videos too, all mop the floor with any "art" that Kanye has tried to come up with.

I wasn't even talking about Blackie. I was talking about people like Moodie Black, and Antipop Consortium

CD is okay but it ages poorly, people only like it becuase of the Nostalgia attached to it. I'd rather listen to Kanye's more innovative stuff. Why would you get hung up on an artist's first work which is usually their objectively worst becuase they haven't had time to create and craft a sound. Yeah CD has some classics like Through the wire and All Falls Down, but Kanye's New stuff is far better. He has a great ear for melody and isn't afraid to try something new.

>I'd rather listen to Kanye's more innovative stuff.

that's literally what cd is though? even if you were a little babby boy in elementary school when it came out, it was one of his most innovative albums next to 808s. nothing about his new shit is innovative. he hasn't broken new ground since 808s, and yeezus/tlop are particularly "whatever" with respect to breaking new ground

I get what you're saying and I get that soulbeats weren't a big deal yet but at the same time it's a sound that got beat to death, and while I respect him for it I simply don't think it's his best work, yeah it's innovate too but it's not his best.
For their context Pablo and Yeezus are both ground breaking for a mainstream artists. Nobody was doing hyper aggressive stuff before Yeezus. And Pablo is filled with Gospel samples and has a sense of abstractness which is yet and still something really daring for a mainstream artist. Mark my words gospel will be the next wave for the next two years, don't believe me? Listen to Chance's coloring book.

Yeezus is his best album.
