so what the fuck is the deal with the cure? angsty bullshit? good? what's their best album? listening to disintegration right now, and it's equal parts very nice and overwhelmingly melodramatic

Great new wave music, sometimes melodramatic you might say, but in believable way

Either Disintegration or Pornography is their best album.

they have a great cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart, any other songs of theirs that have a similar sound?

you have to be quite drunk to fully appreciate them. or be 16, one of the two.

the cure is fucking great man

what's their best album?

I remember when I first heard Pictures Of You. I was spellbound by it then and pretty much still am now. Disintegration is 10/10

Faith.

greatest song ever tbqh, i love how it just builds and builds

disintegration

if that seems overwhelming, try standing on a beach first

I'm really surprised that you don't "get" the cure despite having linked the cover of one of their best (in my opinion) albums: Disintegration.

The explosion of sound with the first track setting a grand tone with pictures of you that keeps building musically while still being a song that expresses lament and melancholy.

The first two tracks: Plainsong and Pictures of you are so goddamn beautiful. Like an intricate symphony with an undercurrent of angst and sadness. A beautiful sigh.

I will never cease to be spellbound by them.

They're melodramatic but as an user above mentioned: to the right extent. And I sort of understand why that makes you uncomfortable, because you're a person on a board which thrives on cynicism, sarcasm and bitter caustic banter. Anything remotely cheesy or melodramatic or romantic will be greeted with some resistance. Angst is discarded in favor of a more caustic approach to everything which is seen as more cool and in tune with the ironic culture that pervades pop media today.

The cure (and disintegration) is (to me) an honest expression of lament, love and affection. From a time when it was okay to be cheesy and melodramatic as long as it could come close to expressing yourself better irrespective how uncool it might have been.

I think disintegration is a beautiful album user. I hope you're able to appreciate it as much as I do. There are times when I just close all the lights, lay down, close my eyes and listen to this album. It's perfect to me that way because it allows me to soak in their entire tone that is set by these first two tracks.

Gay

...

kek. i don't care man. it sounds amazing that way. the sound is really rich and if i do something else then it distracts me from fully appreciating all of it.

There are few albums that evoke such a reaction. That I feel like giving special attention to because of how effectively they capture a particular sentiment/tone/sound.

you should try it user.

>or be 16
As much as I love the Cure, this. I mean if you're just now getting into the Cure then you had a shit adolescence.

this user knows

the cure is either really fucking gr8 or really fucking terrible

there doesnt seem to be any middle ground

pornography is their best album
s/t is their worst

Bloodflowers. It's the cures shoegaze album. Not bad.

I first heard it on Mr. Robot in the episode where Elliot remembers meeting Shayla for the very first time. That was fucking heartbreaking. Fantastic use of music in that show.

Plainsong is probably one of the best openers to any album ever.

>s/t is their worst

I swear, this is their most underrated album, even moreso than Wild Mood Swings. I've always found it to be a competent set of pop songs with the occasional splash of the Pornography sound here and there. I can think of a number of Cure albums I like less than it.
