What are some albums that saved metal?

GO!

...

...

the favorite album of your wife's son

you have no idea how much i love the fact that genres like metal and punk could convergently evolve into something like Attack Attack!

black metal sucks

Metal was born in 1994. Only 12 good albums were released before then (most of them in 1993, intended to be released in 1994). Metal achieved its creative peak in albums like Vulgar Display Of Power, From Mars to Sirius, and Slaughter of the Soul, elevating the genre into a legitimate art form. Before then, thanks to The Red in the Sky is Ours and Immortal, all its potential was never achieved and the genre was reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - keep turning underground metal into AC/DC).

not sure why i keep refreshing Sup Forums, i could go watch tv or something, maybe a flick

Who else is curious about the twelve good albums Bitterman claimed were released since 1993?

From his Colored Sands review
>Strange dissonance, odd chord shapes, tortured vocals, and non-linear song structures are all Gorguts bring from their past to this album: a modernized, normed version of their previous album made palpable for the modern metal audience. It seemed a disaster was well in the making. First, the Negativa album was dismal - a watered down, compromised version of Steeve Hurdle's unorthodox approach to music making. It could be said his absence was the reason From Wisdom to Hate was a step down from Obscura, being a more straightforward affair in regards to arrangements and even an emphasis on more simple "hooks".
>Before Gorguts made music out of layers of dissonance that sounded like abstract thoughts translated into sound - a full spectrum of emotion presented in an unorthodox work which transcended the standard death metal genre limitations, breathing new life into metal not just stylistically, but with its content as well.
This pretty much implies that Obscura is one of those albums

From his Gallows review
>This is the problem: it's rock music at heart and death metal in technique only, missing the whole point of the genre and relying on "surface elements" (female vocalist gimmick, old school packaging, HM-2 pedal tone) to get ahead. There's better options out there as far as new bands like Desecresy and Disma who actually play morbid and down tuned death metal while adding their own flair and not relegating themselves to performing a series of cliches in radio format compositions
And this implies that he has a favorable view on Disma and Desecresy, at the least we have three of the twelve albums here and that's going under the assumption that he only likes one Desecresy album. Are there anymore ideas on what the rest could be?

why would you care about bitterman though

I misunderstood
