Hey, Sup Forums...

Hey, Sup Forums, I was wondering if there are any artist that combine the abrasiveness of noise rock with the crushing depression of slowcore.
>basically give me noise rock that's really fucking sad

Like Shellac?

Lil' Stevie's Jesus Lizard tribute band?

Have you tried this?

Codeine were quite Noise Rock-y sometimes. I think Lowercase might also fit that bill quite well though.

no
I just needed a vaguely related image since Steve is probably one of the most recognizable faces in the genre
yeah, but's more post-punk and shoegaze

Try Bedhead, not really super abrasive, but gets pretty heavy during the climax/end of most of their songs. And like

said, Lowercase and Codeine are pretty good too.

I love Bedhead, best slowcore band

>who is slint

My fucking god
How did I not think of this

lowercase fucking rock dude everything they released is soul destroying and thank you for mentioning them.

what kind of guitar is that?

I forgot about the God Machine, who were more of an Alt. Metal band, but had some very heavy Slowcore undertones. Something like The Train Song skirts the line between Alt. Metal, Noise Rock and Slowcore

A very "punk rock" $7000 Travis Bean.

speaking of, is the For Carnation worth checking out?

Like Bodychoke?

These bands don't necessarily have to have slowcore influences by the way, just need to be soul crushingly sad

Yes
I think they were much, much cheaper at the time

they're great, i don't think they're too sad but they're very good.

Check out Shipping News, Chokebore, in general post-hardcore had a great slowcore thing going on too, codeine are more on that spectrum too, also check out planning for burial, and the gloom scene is generally great, it's like depressive shoegaze goth doom slowcore in some areas. doom metal can be really sad too.

Does Bodychoke count? Because I think of something like Cold River Song but maybe I have the wrong idea of what you want. Or like Public Castration is a Good Idea.

Honestly, I think you probably want sludge metal, a great genre that's much better for crushing and purifying your soul, I find noise rock to usually be energizing.

yeah, though I was going for more melancholy than misanthropic, that's fine too

>he dosen't know steve has a huge collection of these
>many bought well after the prices went crazy
Maintaining your punk image?

Priceless.

And maybe Distorted Pony and This Heat

The Angelic Process and Nadja if you want more on the sludge side of things

someone really has a thing against Steve

...

No, I'm merely pointing out how Steve spends thousands and thousands of dollars on guitars while claiming punk authenticity.

Oh, he's also got a cash in signature model on the way (lol, just like James Hetfield). Can't get much more "punk" than that, right?

There are some live red house painters shows on youtube filmed in the mid 90's on old camcorders where Mark gets noise rocky with the electric guitar.

Well he has an actual job that affords him the ability to do that so I see nothing wrong with it.

Also Travis Beans were fucking dirt cheap in the 80's and 90's so that's a moot point anyway

Also spending money on things isn't anti punk you idiot

So the dude has a lot of fuckin' money, who gives a shit? You can't expect the dude not to use it, hell, I would to.
All I care about is that most of his music is good.
I'll admit the signature guitar thing kinda bugs me, because like you said, nothing but a cash-in.
It's pretty cheap as signature models go, though.

He didn't buy most of his collection in the 80s and 90s.

Oh, and spending obscene amounts of money on things you don't need is the antithesis of punk. Sorry.
>It's pretty cheap as signature models go, though.
$5000 is cheap?

I'm assuming you were talking about this, could you link the model you're talking about?

>$2900
No. That's an EGC. His signature is going to be Travis Bean Designs, base price $4000 before lil' Stevie puts his name on it..

thanks for clearing that up
But again, I mostly just care about the music
also widening scope of the thread so there's more recs
Now including noise pop and shoegaze
basically any rock music where noise plays a key role
