AOTY SO FAR

It's that time of year, we're halfway there, what's your AOTY so far?

these are my 10 favorites in no order

skeletons - am i home
adult jazz - earrings off
autechre - elseq 1-5
horse lords - interventions
vektor - terminal redux
cloud becomes your hand - rest in fleas
jerry paper - toon time raw
huerco s - for those of you that have never
death grips - bottomless pit
matmos - ultimate care 2

This is indisputably the correct answer

Xiu Xiu close second

IMO
Varmints- Anna Meredith
Deakin- Sleep Cycle
Swans- The Glowing Man

I agree about Xiu Xiu. I'm loving Plays the Music of Twin Peaks but it's not quite AOTY for me.

Absolute AOTY:
Motorpsycho - Here Be Monsters

Missed AOTY by just a sliver:
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
Perturbator - The Uncanny Valley

Honorary mentions:
Swans - The Glowing Man
Vektor - Terminal Redux
RMFTM - Subersive II: Splendor of the Wicked

so far it's this with AMSP in close second

...

funk
Lord funk - Global warming
First touch - Knockout
Magic source - Earthrising
Soul papaz - Boobzilla
Sasac - Future disc

jazz
Henri Texier - Dakota mab
Joachim Kühn - Beauty & truth
Mauro Gagano - Suite for battling Siki
Joëlle Léandre - Can you hear me ?
Michael Wollny - Nachtfahrten / Klangspuren

psych
Vibravoid - Live in Finkenbach
The cosmic dead - Rainbowhead
Bardo pond - Acid Guru Pond
Earthless / Harsh toke - Acid crusher / Mount Swan
Causa sui - Return to sky

>there is a new cosmic dead
oh shit nigger, why did I not know this

Goddamn deciding AOTY this year is so tough. A Swans LP came out this year, so it seems logical for a fanboy like me to have The Glowing Man as my AOTY. But at the same time, elseq 1-5 has blown me away big time. Like I haven't felt this blown away by something since high school when I gave Gorguts' Obscura and Beefheart's Trout Mask Rellica a listen for the first time. So yeah, not sure which one is my absolute AOTY, but those two along with:

Terminal Redux
Nonagon Infinity
Le Dernier Crepsucule
This Story Has Happened Before
Blackstar
A Sailor's Guide
Gore

Just show what a strong year it's been so far. It's a pity though that people will probably just think of AMSP, TLOP, and Lemonade when it comes to this year cuz those albums are just scratching the surface.

...

it's a good year for psych, Electric Moon and Zone six both announced a new album too (no release date so far though)

...

Forgot to mention Wadada and Vijay Iyer for this year, too. Ambient sounding jazz while still retaining the complexities of Jazz that often get lost when it gets put together in a more ambient format.

FIRE - She Sleeps, She Sleeps
Idris Ackamoor - We're All Africans
Death Grips — Bottomless Pit
Blackstar

pic related or BP.
maybe the new arca

Blah, Vijay sucks.

Titles please. Sounds great.

Boris / Merzbow - Gensho

Please?

Wildflower

honorable mention to Teens of Denial

elseq 1-5 is my pick as well. Either that or A Moon Shaped Pool.
Honorable mention: Love Streams by Tim Hecker.

...

One of these undecided so far
Blackstar, Bottomless Pit, Terminal Redux, The Glowing Man, elseq 1-5
Honorable Mentions
A Moon Shaped Pool, Sleep Cycle

Damn straight

pic related is runner-up

Antwood - Virtuous.scr
(but i might pick the next Arca later: his last mixtape got me hyped AF)

These so far

>Motorpsycho
My man

Why is this the AOTY? Not tryna bait. I thought the album was good but certainly had some weakness (poor drumming). Is it the quality of the songs that make it AOTY or the ability of the tracks to segue so well into one another?

Either of these
Pertubator - The Uncanny Valley
Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid

This is just available on stream and it's beautiful

Nah, he's cool. His approach definitely feels a lot less jazzy so I can see how certain hardcore jazz fans aren't about it.

That Skeleton$ album is so tight

Shit I didn't even know Huerco S released new material. Interesting to see how much love that Vektor release is getting, it's a really solid album and the rest of this list is great
