Scaruffi awarded it an 8.5/10 and described it as an Industrial masterpiece

scaruffi is often right even if he is a contrarian

downward spiral is an easy 8.5

yeah, well, I mean, he is right...

it's not even contrarian to like NIN

they're one of the most acclaimed industrial bands ever. Trent Reznor is hugely famous, he has done soundtracks for blockbuster hits and video games that have sold multi-millions.

this is one of the rare instances where Scaruffi actually agrees with normal critics and feels that a popular artist has earned their praise, at least for this one album.

It is

Is it deep lyrically? No.

Is it compositionally amazing? Yes.

Scaruffi thinks rock is supposed to be an altered form of classical. Doesn't think lyrical content matters. But it should, and imo, it does.

Instrumental music is like a multiplayer of a video game.

Music with vocals is like the campaign.

If you're playing just for the mechanics you might as well just play the Multiplayer and not even bother with the campaign.

this is one of the dumbest fucking metaphors I've ever read

> (OP)
>Instrumental music is like a multiplayer of a video game.
>Music with vocals is like the campaign.
>If you're playing just for the mechanics you might as well just play the Multiplayer and not even bother with the campaign.
what the fuck am I reading?

This is a fucking terrible analogy. Like, unbelievably bad. Holy fuck I can't believe how fucking stupid this dumbshit analogy is.

This better be some post post post-irony shitposting

I hope you realize this attempt at irony is social satire, and in fact not actually irony

Also I hate the captchas that are like "click all of these" and once you click the them new pictures appear in their place and that last one keeps poppong up with the thing you have to click like 8 times

Was it storefronts?

Not this time. But it has been before. This time it was street numbers

What is your criteria for lyrics?

Like are you comparing reznor against Yeats or something? Should his philosophical merits be matched against Nietzsche?

Of course not. Rock is a different medium altogether, good lyrics never work as good poems. He's a musician first. His lyrics are there to fits the mood and alternatively for pop appeal. I think they work well.

One of the ones with Dark Side of the Moon that both Sup Forumstants and plebs like

It is a classic.
The pacing of the songs and the story tying up each song until the definitive end (closer) of the album is purely amazing.

>Should his philosophical merits be matched against Nietzsche?
GAWWWD IIIIIIIIS DEAD

nigga

enjoy the (you)s

Perhaps I should elaborate on my inquisitive analogy as it was above some of your heads. The lyrical poetry of good bands/musicians such as Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, and Kendrick Lamar provide something intellectually stimulating.

Its like looking at Mona Lisa vs reading a book like Game of Thrones. Ones easy and not very interesting whereas the other is mentally stimulating.

Personally I think it is. It really captures the feelings of frustration, isolation, solipsism and mental illness all wrapped up in a edgy album.

I hope you don't think I'm running a (you) charity here

I browse Sup Forums daily and this is the stupidest thing I've seen all year.

It wasn't above anyone's head. It was just a horrible analogy.

If analogies were diseases, yours would be a combination of stage 4 cancer and full-blown AIDS.

hey take note, this is how you do a metaphor

How is he wrong? It is one of the most influential industrial rock albums.

Who said he was wrong?

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT
I'M GONNA CUM ALL OVER YOU

put me in the screencap

And Lou Reed does Contralto voice. Come on

It's the Unknown Pleasures of the 90's generation, at least in terms of scope, theme, emotional intensity

no surprise Trent worships Joy Division

true classic

They're not that rare. He loves Metallica.

Which one is which

Scaruffi might not have much in his life, he hates most things people love. But damn it if he isn't right when he's right?

He really doesn't hate most things people love. People kinda blow that out of proportion.

>he hates most things people love
He didn't give it a 7+ ≠ hate

Steve Roach, Klaus Shulze, Captain Beefhear, Fugazi, the list goes on.

>Doesn't think lyrical content matters
Not true by the way
