I need some excellent prog-rock recommendations. I'm a big fan of King Crimson and I'm already getting into old Genesis. I listen to all the more mainstream bands that could be called prog-rock, like Floyd, Moody Blues, Yes, etc.
I need some solid suggestions for prog-rock bands, and the best albums from them, if you'd be so kind.
Is it really this hard to get a response? I respond to stupid things.
Thomas Walker
Hello...
Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?
Adrian Reyes
Anyone?
I'm gonna post my whole hard drive and see how long I can keep this going solo.
Liam Harris
Is anyone even seeing this? If I posted a pic of a naked trap banging a goat, thirty people would immediately respond, asking for more...
Asher Williams
Some early ELO. People don't talk about them much here. They weren't quite as prog as King Crimson but not quite as mainstream as Pink Floyd or Rush. Underrated prog rock band IMO. If you decide to check them out do not explore past Out Of The Blue.
Levi Moore
bump
;^)
Aiden Clark
Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt is a masterpiece.
Levi Gonzalez
This thread sucks. I'm not going to learn anything new if nobody responds...
Liam King
best modern prog rock album
Jace Thomas
Thanks! I do need some ELO. I have listened to Tarkus and liked it.
Wyatt Scott
I'll get that. Thanks!
Kayden Jones
This guy is fag.
This is better
Jace Gray
Never heard of em. I'll get that as well. Thanks!
Christian Edwards
I've heard that one is the best of the bunch. I'll check it out.
Kayden Wright
I was thinking of ELP.
I have an ELO best of. I'll have to give it a thorough listen.
Logan Turner
opeths pale communion is pretty much a homage to 70s prog
Elijah King
Also, sorry for calling you a fag. I ignored your name. Don't worry, this board is shit. I feel your pain. Nobody responds to you unless you post Radiohead, Talking Heads, Death Grips, or flavor of the month shit.
It's not Prog, but check out Love- Forever Changes. It's my favorite album. Everybody I have shown this album to, it becomes one of their favorites. You seem new to "serious music listening," but hearing Forever Changes, an album with perfect flow and all good songs, will set you on the right path towards patrician-dom.
Angel Carter
Never even heard of this guy. There's a shit ton of stuff out there.
Isaiah Bell
No worries, man. OP is always a fag.
Robert Gonzalez
I'll check it out!
Camden Rivera
Don't listen to a best of album. Hardly any of it will be prog ELO. It'll mostly be their hit songs from later in their discography when they became popular. If you want prog, Don't go past Out Of The Blue, and even then don't listen to much past Face The Music. That's where they started getting popular and changing their sound to be more mainstream.
Jayden Russell
obligatory
Noah Cooper
I'll get the albums. I hate best of albums for the most part, but I think I bought it for the two songs I already knew.
Jackson Barnes
But really, check out Love- Forever Changs. It's fucking gold.
Just type in some keywords (Comus first uttereance) followed by "mega" (so that megaupload links show up) or "zip."
Also, get Soulseek. It's a bit archaic, but it gives you access to pretty much all the music ever released. It's a file sharing serive which allows you easily download files off other users. Just make sure you share something so that the system doesn't lock you out.
porcupine tree - "stupid dream" sensations' fix - "fragments of light" dungen - "4" (most will probably say "ta det lungt" though) the amazing - "picture you" if you can't handle the swedish-ness of dungen - they aren't as proggy though split enz - "mental notes" all over the place but fantastic as a debut album moonwagon - "foyers of the future" clearlight - "clearlight symphony" odyssice - "impression" mansun - "six" crime in choir - "trumpery metier" nick nicely - "psychotropia" tauk - "homunculus" and "collisions"
Owen Ross
Haken is good
Leo Murphy
Third from Soft Machine
not your standard prog rock album, but it's one of its bests in my opinon.
Hudson Bennett
Alright you people are going to think I'm memeing or whatever but hear me out.
Babymetal.
If you're still reading after this name then let me tell you what I listened to. I don't think much of the albums as a whole but on Metal Resistance there is a track that doesn't sound like the tracks before it. I fucking LIKED it. I think you might too. It's called Tales of the Destinies.
James Watson
How are there so many bands I've never heard of? I'l look all these up. Thanks.
Why was Asymmetry so underwhelming Why do they always take 4 years to release new album
Nolan Cook
This is all great stuff.
Joshua Jones
it's stupid kpop bullshit, you're getting trolled
Joshua Evans
...
Ryder Green
I've been stuck on King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King for too long. I love it, and am completely fascinated by it, but I don't want to burn it out.
I haven't looked it up yet. It sounds just terrible.
Levi Gomez
I was jut about to link Leprous, they are the best prog metal band in the last fw years
Ethan Butler
Haha! None of them. I'm relatively new to prog rock, and getting good recommendations is difficult in my circles.
Samuel Turner
Yeah. Babymetal are three girls who were a subdivision from an idol group in japan but as of late have been making serious waves in North America here if not Worldwide. Lead has got some pipes on her with two younger girls on vocals They are backed up by a metal group in thier songs
When they got featured in one of my regular wrestling programs i could no longer ignore them. Like I said they're not anything special in my opinion but Tales stood out because I immediately recognized the genre. If I ever recomended a song from them to anybody it's gonna be that since I am not used to many J-Bands getting into prog like that.
Ian Barnes
I'll look them up - any particular album you recommend over others?
Carter Smith
Here's a good chart to start with prog Highest rated albums on Progarchives
Elijah Scott
I'll give it a listen. I have a feeling I won't stop reading that name for a little while, anyway.
Carson Wood
I really liked asymmetry those fucking interludes tho
I just found it great to hear some harder and driving stuff like the last few and the refusal also alpha is goat 2bh
Henry Smith
Feeling like a dead duck!
Joseph Baker
>Haken
How is the new album? I was so happy to get my hands on the first three but just listened to Restoration and didn't bother to pre order Affinity.
Elijah Turner
I'm getting the Karnivool discography now. I'll check them out.
Blake Young
This is the shit
Jason Cruz
listen to karnivools deadman like now son
Carson Sullivan
It's pretty good, but not as good as last 2
Michael Anderson
Great list!
Asher Robinson
Never heard of them. I'll look them up.
Connor Barnes
Symphony no. 2 is BRIRRIANT!
Michael Davis
pretty good less silly shenanigans than on the mountain though I liked it a lot
Adrian Collins
>Karnivool Why not just listen to Ocenasize or Tool
I legitimately think asymmetry is their perfect album and i love most of their releases except persona back why not listen to all of those bands? they're all phenomenal
John Howard
because I prefer the vool mate on that note I also prefer rishloo over tool tool is just so cringeworthy at times that being said I still love tool
Camel - Mirage, snow goose Van der graaf generator - Godbluff, Still life, Pawn hearts Komintern - le bal du rat mort
Also magma senpai
that's the best track of the band that's not saying much but still
Elijah Baker
Rishloo is probably the best Tool lite band ot there, much better than stuff like Soen
Blake Wright
listen to the progarchives top 100 album list. ask for recommendations after you finish based on what you liked.
Luke Hughes
Tool is better actually
Aaron Lopez
Why does p4k shit on Mars Volta? was there a story of a falling out between them or something?
Brody Sanchez
>Miles davis every time
Noah Howard
Lateralus best album
Benjamin Davis
I actually disliked asymmetry at first but now it finally clicked for me. tied with sound awake for me
Luke Hall
>inb4 those two tripfags that love Gazpacho and Airbag
Gavin Butler
Haken's new album is pretty great, though not quite as good as the mountain. Wasn't too big on Airbag, they sounded like Signify era Porcupine Tree but the songs mostly felt stagnant.
how do you feel about King Crimson's seventies albums? Larks, Starless, and Red are all better than ITCOTCK imo
Elijah Bailey
Language. I fucking love this album!
Connor Scott
I'm glad to hear an opinion on those. I've had a hard time "attaining" the rest. I'm looking for them now. I have wanted to hear the rest of the catalog for a long time. I'm just too lazy.
