Things that people say that infuriates you

>I listen to everything but rap and country
>When does the singing start

>i like music

why is "I listen to everything" a meme on here, people being open-minded and enjoying a larger spectrum of things is a great thing isn't it?

>I listen to everything but rap and country
Rap and country are shit though, it's funny that in 2016 literally no one is allowed to dislike rap music or you are considered like the biggest hipster piece of shit ever.

no you are just considered closed minded for completely throwing away an entire genre of music.

>song is too long
fuck off already, your presence near me is too long

Not if you're autistic and invest way too much of your self worth into liking shitty indie music that you have to find through obscure channels.

>melody repeats more than twice
>"umm, can we skip this song please"

Some songs are super long and super great, but some just drag like a motherfucker and keep repeating the same things instead of just ending.

It's very distinct in that the vocals are rhythmic rather than melodic. That throws people off a lot. It really is essentially poetry to a beat and a lot of people aren't looking for that, especially when ghetto culture is something a lot of white people grow out of.

theres a lot of rap music that isn't even based on ghetto culture. im just saying, you can like or dislike whatever you like, just dont sit there and wonder why people think you're close minded.

Not liking a specific genre is not closed minded, it just means you don't like it. Being closed minded means you're not even open to trying new things. Being open minded doesn't mean that you have to like everything.

this

Well, yes, long songs can be bad. What I mean is people dismiss good songs JUST because they are long.
"i'm not gonna listen to this! it's 20 minutes long!"
that's like saying "this 20 minute ep is too long!"

When people call my music taste weird because I decided to delve outside of the small facet of music that is radio.

>oh you're exploring music? what an avant teen lol
>poseur

what are some good rap then? the closest thing to rap that I like is early Beck, and RATM

I can appreciate some bluegrass and neil young country so i got that going for me at least.

Because they don't. They don't listen to faroese folk music, tibetan religious chants, geothermal activity, enka, dream folk, being yelled at by an inmate for 40 minutes or anything that wasn't on a clearchannel station.

>I can tell within the first 15 seconds if a song is good or not

There's hundreds of good rappers out there.

Kendrick, GZA, Kanye, Jay Z, Vince Staples, Mick Jenkins, Injury Reserve, Aesop Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Chance The Rapper, Danny Brown. I could go on.

oh my

>This is unsettling and hurting my ears, please turn it off

>when is the drop

>They only gave it a good review because the person who made it is black/trans/female/etc

>being yeled at by an inmate for 40 min

link?

That screencap of skrillex makes me cringe. All he wanted to do was post his favourite song and all of his fucking entry level fans expect everything to have a drop.

I don't like literally any harsh noise, am I close minded?

...

>"Hey user, do you wanna put a song"
>"Nah, I'm good. I'm more of an album guy"
>"come on, just say what you want"
>Whatever I choose, it gets switched mid-song

This happens at every fucking party

kek

It's because no one wants to listen to a 20 min Swans song user

Nah just your preference

Because people who say it don't actually "listen to everything". They listen to incredibly mainstream music and have very little knowledge of the broad diversity of music out there. I had a manager at my previous job who said this exact phrase a couple times. She listened to Drake, Oasis, Muse, and Twenty One Pilots.

Nothing wrong with ignorance of course, but if you are, then it's probably just better to avoid saying something false.

Faggot, I love albums but it's not hard to pick a single song.

Nothing wrong with Drake, Oasis or Muse, but I see your point. Especially when two of those bands are just Rock bands.

Underrated

Because it's exactly those people who bitch and whine whenever you put on something that isn't top 40.

>couple of days after Bowie's death
>I am a huge Bowie fan
>he is my fucking jam
>el numero uno
>there's a Bowie night on at uni
>have no interest in going
>in shared housing
>stupid DRAAAMAAA student housemate is going with her equally stupid tart friend
>they've drawn the lightning bolt over their eye
>in the kitchen
>they're just playing his greatest hits
>not even finishing most of them
>not even getting halfway
>HEY user, YOU LIKE DAVID BOWIE. RECOMMEND US A SONG.
>YEAH. WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE BOWIE SONG?
>i'm fucking with Low at this point so I answer truthfully
>Always Crashing in the Same Car, from Low
>okay, i'll put it on
>around 10 seconds in
>when does he start singing?
>in a minute or so
>this is really boring
>they just turn it off
>don't even put another Bowie song on

I know it's autismo of me to suggest to two complete normies that they listen to one of his more inaccessible songs, but this aggravated me. Why do people lack the will power to sit through a song?

>Always Crashing in the Same Car

My nigga

I was in the same situation, but I just chose a more popular song like Changes and most sang along, since it was common knowledge I was a huge Bowie fan

What if you do listen to most genres of music? I try to listen to a variety of genres. That includes rap, indie, alt, prog, country, experimental, electronic etc. I mean it's not "everything", but I have a relative amount of variety.

Kek, or maybe they just like a lot of genres and don't want to list a bunch of bands that nobody cares about

it was only the three of us so i wasn't looking to please a party and they'd just got done turning Changes off after 1 chorus to play Ashes to Ashes, which obviously then got switched to ACitSC midway through
but yeah, ACitSC is fucking solid
do you have a top 3 of his albums?

Fuck those cunts. Do your thing user.

>Where's the drop?
>I can't dab to this

Then say that.
In my experience the vast majority of people who say they listen to everything are vapid cunts.

Yeah, sounds like you were in a lose-lose situation.

My top is the cliche Station to Station, Low & Heroes

As I said to the other user, it was just the three of us. If it was at a party I'd have put on Heroes or Starman, not something as inaccessible.

Fucking normies, man.

You guys think Lets Dance underrated?

I usually just say i listen to a lot of hip hop which is mostly true. 80% of my music is hip hop.
The only Bowie fans I know irl is my sister and my mum. I wish I knew more.

Nobody really cares what you like or not in those situations, might as well brush it off.

>Station to Station, Low
myyy nigga
mine's gotta be Low, Station to Station and right now at least it's probably Hunky Dory at third

definitely
it's not in any way unknown, but out of like 6 people I've played it to only 1 knew it was Bowie
deserves more love

there was an user in another thread who was saying he had a friend who was a huge Bowie fan who'd sometimes put on a Bowie song or two and make them guess which it was
I'd really get a kick out of that game
what are your favourite albums user?

I'm just trying to decline politely, since its gonna get cut for the newest banger anyway.

The only time I listen to party songs is at parties which means I'm always a step behind the curve, so I'd rather let them do their thing.

Trust me, they tried pretending they liked classical. I asked them which composers, they mentioned Mozart, Beethoven, and genuinely struggled with a third name. They weren't above trying to look "patrish", they just don't know many artists or genres period.

Saying "I like everything except country" is really saying "I'm not particularly sure of my own taste, because I haven't spent much time figuring out which genres I really like and which ones I simply don't care for". It's just to save face, because no one wants to look ignorant about something as ubiquitous as music. You can't blame them either, it takes a lot of time to listen to a ton of albums. Time many people struggle to put aside. I don't think so many people are that self-conscious so as to mention only "pleb" artists and avoid listing a ton of "patrician" ones. I think what you see is what you get.

i swear this is true for p4k, if you mentioned any other website i would agree

Favourites are probably Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane and Ziggy.

Aladdin Sane is my most favourite. Lady Grinning Soul is amazing.

Feels weird being a Bowie fan and also being a hip hop fanatic.

You realise Andy Warhol is his best song fucking pleb.

Aladdin Sane is pretty solid. Really love Watch That Man.

nice

>song starts
>2 seconds in
>"I don't like this"

at least fucking try listening to something for fuck's sake. Nobody's asking you to listen to an album 5 times, just pay attention for a minute...

>Feels weird being a Bowie fan and also being a hip hop fanatic.
wait why

>it's a gradual crescendo

Except p4k spent years pretty much only reviewing white boy indie and none of the people complaining now batted an eye.

Also didn't they just give an extremely favorable review to the Avalanches?

Idk. I just do

Yeah Aladdin Sane blows my mind. Everything about it is amazing. I really need to listen to his later works though.

in the world of inflated review scores an 8.5 is not favorable by p4k standards

>dream folk
this sounds cool got any examples

Who gives a shit what pitchfork thinks anyway? Why do people talk about this website so much?

they reviewed everything, they just gave black people legitimate scores which werent race weighted

and if you're implying that 90% of white boy indie isn't better than 90% of black man hip hop then you're just wrong

That's absurd. Bowie also got an 8.5 and BNM. If you don't think that's favorable idk what to tell you. (also the review was released 3 days before he died, so you can't blame it on his death either)

>Black person gets a higher score than radiohead
>"unfair bias!"
>Radiohead get a higher score than black person
>"Radiohead just made the better album!"

yes, that aligns with what i'm thinking, because radiohead make better albums than most black people

fucking kevin gates got a higher score than TKOL

...

Literally all of the mucore meme albums from this year got 8+ and/or best new music on p4k, but people only ever threw a fit when they gave it to chance or anohni.

because Chance was mediocre, and anohni was actually heavy handed trite garbage

deakin deserved a better score than he got but p4k has a hate boner for AnCo

can someone post it?

from what ive seen of him skrillex seems like an alright dude actually

To be completely fair a good majority of the meme albums were actually great.

>indie
>alt
>prog
>experimental

Prog what? Indie isn't a genre, experimental isn't a genre, alt is a blanket term for "i dont know"

>p4k has a hate boner for AnCo
literally fucking what

reviews are subjective, and both chance and anohni tried interesting things. I think people will disagree on how their experiments turned out. I'm not saying p4k don't ever play favorites (Kanye and arcade fire come to mind) but blaming good reviews of records you don't like on the race or gender of the artist is foolish and ridiculous.

I'm not saying that they're bad albums, I've enjoyed some of them. My point is when they get good scores people assume it's because of talent but when a black person/ trans woman/ gay person/ whatever gets a good score it's because of the fact that they're black/gay.female/trans/etc

>I only like music that has good lyrics
There is plenty of music with retarded lyrics that is competely redeemed by the actual fucking music. If you're too dense to appreciate music beyond the verbal message you're a moron

>I listen to rock

>The list goes on...

>no diamond dogs
still, nice taste

I understand the story was kind of cringy but I think it's even more terrible when people consider themselves "the true fans" by their own autistic standards.

literally no
when talented people of any walk of life make good music it is appreciated on Sup Forums, but there is definitely a trend b/c of social justice for shitty music made by minorities or whatever oppressed ppl you wanna throw into the fucking mix gets inflated scores, whereas shitty music made by white ppl usually gets the shitty review it deserved
If what you're saying is true, then why would Kanye West, death grips. Jordaan Mason, etc all be so popular nearly universally here

Some people do say that about Kanye here. Also, Death Grips is 2/3 white. But there are always exceptions to anything.

kys autist

Enka was literally the best part about learning japanese for me.

i fucking died

What is enka?

Neato

I have a David Bowie t-shirt (ziggy period) and i barely wear it now, both because of the dummies who pretend to fucking love Bowie but only know Let's Dance and Heroes, and the ones who think i'm a jerk who pretended to like him after his death.

It's edited to only show those comments, most of them were actually positive

Wrote this in another thread yesterday :

A friend of mine, absolute fan of prog and psych rock, told me about a girl he met. She pretended to be into prog. He wanted to talk about krautrock, about Jehtro Tull, Pink Floyd, EML, whatever. She didn't know any of these bands. She was sure that prog rock was born in the 90's with bands like Dream Theater and Mars Volta.

He told me it was the only time he got really mad about music.

>"Oh, the Tribe/Dio/Prince/MJ/Amy Winehouse is my favorite! Their/his/her music changed my life!" three days after Phife's/Dio's/Prince's/Mj's/Amy's death, prior to which I had never even heard of them
These people are the lowest tier of normalfag scum

Lmao

jesuschristhowhorrifying.jpg

That's not pretending to be into prog at all though

If she liked TMV and Dream Theater she is definitely "into prog", otherwise she wouldn't dig them. She may not be super knowledgeable about the genre and its origins but that doesn't mean she's not into it to some degree

Would you tell someone they're not into hip hop if they liked Vince Staples and Kendrick but didn't know who Public Enemy or Grandmaster Flash were?
