Punk band's 'California' blocks 'Views' from 10th consecutive Number One

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""punk""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

go listen to neutral milk hotel you edgy faggot

How did this album of all things hit number one.

Shows how much blink fans will accept any trash their band feeds them.

ARE THEY THE SAVIORS OF MUSIC

Pop punk is my favorite genre, I'm glad to see rap finally getting taken off the top of the charts. To be honest, I like the album but it is overproduced. It is a step in the right direction for Blink though, and it doesn't make you miss Tom DeLonge very much. I like the Warped Tour kiddie bands more nowadays though, but only pop punk.

I would send them flowers I swear

lol u mad?

>implying Drake's album wasn't trash too

(You)

...

test

>having to respond to let me know you're not mad

yeah u mad

haha built this pool is so funny xD

Pop punk is still punk IMO. They haven't fully slipped out of pop punk territory at least. Fall Out Boy is a prime example of a once-great pop punk band that found the punk part too onerous, and just became a very glossy, produced pop rock trash band. They sold their soul to stay on the charts, then the band that inspired them shows up and blows the fuck out of one of rap's biggest artists.

>implying making pop punk isn't already from the start selling your soul

>Pop punk is my favorite genre

>le music defenders

typical white boys standing in front of the black limelight

WER R U

It's mindless, unpretentious fun which is what punk is at the end of the day.

At least it's not like metalcore where it tries to take the worst parts of metal and jam them together.

you cant make music for mass appeal and sales and still be punk

you're trying way too hard
AND IM SO SORRRRRYYYY

>Pop punk is my favorite genre, I'm glad to see rap finally getting taken off the top of the charts.

Underage detected

Punk is about being as contrarian as possible. It is the definition of pretentious.

Not the Ramones.

>HEY HO
>LET'S GO
>HEY LITTLE GIRL, I WANNA BE YOUR BOYFRIEND

Do you miss me yet, Sup Forums?

The Ramones is not punk.

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeee...ddit
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

This.

good filename

>Underage detected
What? Pop-punk exploded in the late 90's. If anything, someone being a fan of it implies that they're in their late 20's or so.

>I'm glad to see rap finally getting taken off the top of the charts.

that part

I wished them well, it seems a lot of people did

>that fucking shithouse """""song""""" charted #1 for 9 weeks

Jesus fuck people get some taste.

>Blink 182

These old sacks are still around? Fuck me....we're living in very dark times.

I know it kind of is, but it's not quite that simple. Look at most new pop punk bands; they are all on indie labels. Blink 182 is really one of the few HUGE bands that are pop punk.

That looks like a metalcore fan. That doesn't remind me of anything vaguely similar to how a typical pop punk fan would dress.

You can, but it's not easy and therefore many bands changed once it went out of the mainstream.

I CANNOT SLEEP, I CANNOT DREAM TONIGHT

21 here

I think Reddit is too pretentious to like pop punk. If anything, Sup Forumscore is reddit. I only came to this board to gloat and post about pop punk.

People retroactively changed the definition of punk to be more restrictive, because they expected everything to sound like hardcore did back in the 80s.

>Le 90s kids are nowadays married 30-somethings going straight to the midlife crisis
>extremely popular 90s band releases a new album about having fun in summer
>Nostalgia hits the 90s kids hard they proceed to stream the album from spotify to remember simpler and better times

Its not rocket science why this album is so successful.

No one was going to rate Blink over Drake and they still toppled him

I bet Tom is sad missing out on all that money while he writes shitty books about UFOs that don't sell

Yeah. They are.

Countless publications consider them as the forefathers of punk. Just because they aren't HARDXXXCORE enough for you doesn't mean you can just disregard their contribution to and involvement in the genre.

>publications

Who? Time magazine? Spin? Rolling Stone?

Who gives a shit what they say? The Ramones were,at best, garage rock, but mostly just dirty NYC rock.

>Who gives a shit what they say?

Nigga who gives a fuck what YOU say? They're punk, get over it.

Holy shit the Ramones were the first band to call themselves punk therefore they are punk
And they have the definitive punk look, attitude, and sound. If you think the Ramones aren't punk you're an idiot

>nigga

I'm not listening to you, child.

>punk fans too dumb to understand how genres work

why are they all like this?

Ok, you win. You are right.

I know, just look at this fucking clown

The Ramones' lyrics are the best type of punk lyrics: ironic, detached, and slyly subversive. I mean, they sang songs about Nazis and beating kids with humor and irreverence.

They're like a Beach Boys that never had a Brian

Blink 182 > The Beach Boys

I don't understand why people get so nostalgic about the trash they listened to in middle school. I listened to a ton of metalcore when I was younger but I don't get a huge desire to hear comeback albums by those bands.

I think it is the fact that some people never grew out of the music they listened to as kids. They are just stuck in that mindset.

I love pop punk, but i think your comment is going to push me over the edge into the bleak and cold embrace of suicide

It's just dick waving. Metal fans don't do this. I never hear people say Disturbed isn't metal, for example.

That's because metalcore IS trash. I actually like the newest wave of pop punk bands even better than Blink.

What about it? I wonder if Sup Forums likes Knuckle Puck, The Story So Far, State Champs, Real Friends, Four Year Strong (more like easycore), etc.? They can't be labeled as a "mainstream" genre anymore.

>It's just dick waving. Metal fans don't do this. I never hear people say Disturbed isn't metal, for example.

Actually a better example would be fans of modern metal saying that Black Sabbath wasn't metal.

That's because metalcore was shit.

Why do you feel the need to grow out of music? I never understood Sup Forums's obsession with this.

Are you the same as you were in middle school?

Pop punk and metalcore are both shit, don't pretend your underage trash is better than any other underage trash.

pop punk has always seemed like an oxymoron to me

Seriously, holy fucking shit. Two months + some change?!

Disturbed is brometal

bad b8

>This album has sold more copies than Views and California combined

>implying it doesn't deserve those sales

t. scaruffi

Drake > Smash Mouth

was just memeing but does scruffy actually like smashmouth

What is the appeal of pop punk? The only pop punk album I've heard and enjoyed is Joyce Manor's debut. Everything else I've heard is really simplistic melodies repeated over and over again for way too long. Top that off with terrible lyrics and you have a recipe for a genre whose only strength is it's ability to induce migraines.

who the fuck buys music anymore?

what did they sell about a good 10k?

Nah punk is ideally pop too
Early punk like the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, and Richard Hell, were just back to the basics rock and roll with distorted guitars and edgier themes.
It was later that everyone decided punk was about being angry and hating everything and that it should sound like watered down metal

they moved 172.000 units

How the fuck is this a really good pop-punk album?

No, but my interests don't magically change over night.

such a trash album

not a single good song on it

i love blink but this is like green day's awful trilogy, shambles desu senpai

topkek my friend

D-does anyone else still listen to TTTYG?
