I have about £750 to £800 for a new guitar and would like a 24-3/4" Arch-top
Could you advise me or what would you buy if it was you?
Bentley Morris
whats the widest neck baritone I can get? I prefer classical guitar necks but i want an electric baritone for a band, the music is rather mellow so a metal looking guitar isn't prefrable
He played Riverias and Sheratons and got his own signature (haven't seen him play it much), and had a custom Riviera made in the 90's. There's a Ltd Ed. Union Jack guitar which I think is basically a clone of his custom. He mostly uses Gibson ES345's live now. He also used to have a Epi Les Paul but apparently it was absolute shit.
Ryder Mitchell

Signed guitars=/=guitars people played on.
He definitely owns a few, but there's few photos of him actually playing them. Likely he got them for free, or bought them because he's diamonds for the Beatles.
Can anybody figure the chords/ tabs of "Exhale" by Rarity out for me please?
Carson Ortiz
I'm wondering about the possibilities of converting right handed guitars into lefty ones, being a leftyfag myself, since I recently decided on a "dream guitar to end my search for guitars" and lo and behold, it only comes in right handed models, like most good ones. Would something like that be possible/viable, and how would you go about it? I assume I couldn't just ask the manufacturer to make me a lefty model without first becoming a world famous guitarist and having them offer me a signature guitar, so that's out. Would an experienced luthier be able to do something like that?
Mason Rivera
p. good, was a little slide heavy for my liking. would also explore arpeggios a bit more since it seemed like you were going back up and down the scale and it would be nice to have a little variation
Daniel Foster
string it backwards
Or just learn to play righthanded.
Aiden Parker
Fuck that righthanded playing shit, it feels unnatural and uncomfortable as hell, plus I'd basically have to learn the guitar all over again.
Restringing isn't an option, because the knobs and the cable socket are in such positions that they would interfere with my arm, making it highly uncomfortable to play.
Daniel Fisher
yes i know the secret thats within your mind
Nathaniel White
Where did you get that backing track?
Charles Torres
>because the knobs and the cable socket are in such positions that they would interfere with my arm
This is why you're asking questions on a Kashmiri button fitting BBS, and not writing the White Album
Daniel Nelson
It sounds as if the player has put in a lot of practice to get where they are though the whole performance misses the bulls eye.
5.5/10
Brayden Lee
Oh man sorry.
YouTube, search for Polka Dots and Moonbeans backing track.
Sebastian Gomez
Oh shit, I thought this was the Bangalore wool knitting BBS, my bad.
Aside from that, I reckon it should be possible to move the switches/knobs/cable sockets around, yeah? I mean, the guitar's body is a lump of wood with holes in it, how hard could it be to add a few more in and patch up the old ones? I was hoping that maybe someone here has tried doing something like that and could share their experience.
Bentley Adams
>Oh man sorry. Don't apologize, you're half way there
Ryan Hall
I wonder how long it would take to get decent, it's pretty hard to play jazz.
William Garcia
you are decent if you were the Op on the clip,
a lot of it depends on magic
Luis Gutierrez
yes i'm op. i want to join the college jazz band, but i don't even think i'm good enough.
Landon Reyes
Well with a hollow/semi hollowbody like a Gibson ES etc. it would probably be relatively easy. Might be weird to fill the old holes, but it should be much easier then doing it with an average Fender style where the entire guitar is backwards. I think Tony Iommi has a reversed SG. I've definitely seen it done, but I can't remember who it was.
TL;DR it's possible, but it might require alot of bog filler and re-routing. Not sure if any given luthier will take it on.
Camden Martinez
you are definitely good enough
Ethan Ross
Yeah, you want a symmetrical guitar.
Although a fender strat would be fun just to get the Hendrix sound out of it.
Lucas Watson
you think so? I hope that's the case man. I know they are just a bunch of guys who play jazz for fun, not studying music or anything. But I don't know what kind of standard they hold.
Zachary Reed
well, if they're decent people they won't give you a hard time
you sound great
Go (You)!
Luke Cruz
Thanks man.. I hope I can get better at jazz before I eventually get bored of it and move on to something else.. Like I did with metal.
Oh wait there's nothing else to move to already..
Ethan Peterson
Classical, avant garde
Eli Perry
there is always a frontier to cross
Ayden Rogers
I already play classical on the piano, I'm not smart enough for avant garde
???
Jackson Martinez
>Like I did with metal. >tfw it's happening to you too I just want to play complex stuff, why can't everyone write complex music
Ryder Miller
...
Christopher Richardson
Why don't you write complex music? and if you do, please share
Benjamin Morgan
I can't write anything. I'm an absolutely terrible musician, I can't jam, and every attempt at writing something turns into a hour of trying to force out a few measures, and deleting it because it's shit and doesn't please me.
Lucas Baker
I mean its not much - quite unorganized
Lincoln Barnes
The guitar I'm thinking of is an Explorer, and while it's not exactly symmetrical, the body shape seems like should work upside down, as long as the knobs are moved to the other side and the cable socket is lowered somewhat. But yeah, doing some research it seems that it would be nearly impossible to find an actual luthier who'd do something like that, as all luthiers that are good enough to pull off something like that would seemingly sooner build you an inverse guitar from scratch rather than customize an existing one.
Also, didn't Fender actually release a reversed strat so that right handers could get that Hendrix sound? I'm pretty sure I read someplace about that.
Christopher Phillips
honestly dude, an upside down guitar doesn't look like a right side up guitar. Why do you need an explorer specifically? It's just like every other HH guitar. Just get something you like that does exist in lefty and work with that.
Mason Barnes
Because of this motherfucker. It's my dream guitar, and if I have to flip it upside down and learn to bend my arm around the cable and knobs, I will. I was just wondering if there's a way to make it less awkward to play.
Landon Myers
It will look like ass.
pic related.
Hunter Martinez
Where my acoustic niggas at?
Levi Rogers
In the 1800's
Angel Diaz
I'm actually kinda liking the look. Heavy bottom and lighter top, like it should be. Also that thunderbolt decal is sweet.
Jack Howard
Not sure if bait, or the poorest aesthetic taste...
Luis Morgan
O-oh. How long have you been playing?
Michael Ward
Why is Liam pretending to be POTATO?
Adam Barnes
Always here m8
Julian Hernandez
I really mean it. I think it looks good, if sorta weird because I'm not used to seeing it upside down. The only problem with that particular guitar is the color scheme, which is atrocious, but I legitimately dig the design.
Then again, I still can't understand the logic behind guitars having thin strings on the bottom and thick ones on the top, when the natural order of most things goes from a wide/thick foundation to a narrow/thin top, so maybe it's just me.
Josiah Powell
I heard that nylon strings are for pussies who can't handle the real deal and that they also sound like shit. Any comment on that?
John Turner
>when the natural order of most things goes from a wide/thick foundation to a narrow/thin top
Autism
Asher Long
I'm right here bro
Adam Mitchell
Ike Turner was a great guitarist but Jesus Christ was he a terrible person. Read up on how he treated Tina Turner.
Kevin Foster
Yeah, I know how it sounds, but think about it. You don't see mountains start out thin and get thicker as they go up, do you? And when you stack something, you naturally put the heavy/wide shit on the bottom and the lighter/narrow stuff on top. Same thing with guitar strings. It just seems to me that it would make more sense to have the heavy, thick strings at the bottom, where you also have more finger strength to leverage, and the thin stuff on top, where you have less strength to push down on them. But hey, maybe it's just me being retarded, I don't know. The fact remains that the upside down Explorer looks cool, and now I'm actually thinking how come nobody has ever tried playing the guitar upside down without restringing it. I bet you could find some fun chords and scales that way.
Michael Kelly
literally who cares
Elijah Morales
hey /gg/, never posted here before, but i just found my old fender stratocaster in my closet and want to start playing again. messed around a little, it sounds tuned and is in good condition. what websites/youtube channels/books could i use to teach myself guitar? would like to learn at least some basics and play a little bit. thanks
Ryder Cox
they addicted him to cocaine
:(
Robert Harris
Justinmusic has all you need to get from zero to actually knowing enough basics to get some fun out of your guitar, and he even goes into some advanced stuff in his lessons, so there's plenty to learn.
Nolan Morgan
always.
how do I git gud? Also define gud. When is one gud?
Evan Barnes
I can't remember who, but I swear I remember hearing a story about some guitarist who was left handed and just played a right handed guitar without re-stringing -- so the low strings were at the bottom and the high strings were up top.
I feel like you're bound to run into some chord shapes that are just physically impossible for your hand to make with the strings reversed though.
Luke Robinson
Pretty sure that's Dick Dale.
Leo Lee
a couple guys have done that. the most famous one is some blues guy but i can't remember his goddamn name
Dylan Mitchell
Two years, so I'm not exactly desperate, but I always feel like shit when I drop by my friend's house to play some stuff and we only do covers. On the plus side, I'll most likely be able to play most of what I'll write later on.
Ethan Bailey
That's when you come up with your own chords. Or just play shit that doesn't need a lot of chords, like surf rock. Or just git gud.
Makes sense when you think about it. He's mostly known for playing single notes really quick, and you can have your stings in any order for that. And he also does it with 16 - 58 strings, too. Dude's crazy.
You're thinking of Albert King. He basically did everything "wrong" on purpose, and it worked out for him.
Angel Brown
"—today he was an outcast, an untouchable. A leper to be kept out of the industry."
Jace Cook
Where should I start if I want to get into Ike Turner
Samuel Mitchell
I don't suppose anyone has any experience with this Italia? I want it but with so much going on I feel like this only means more stuff that can break down.
Anthony Evans
Start doing coke and beating the shit out of your wife.
Blake Richardson
thanks so much
Ethan Morgan
Can anyone explain to me why not all guitars have 24 frets? Is there any advantage to having just 21 or 22 frets instead of two full octaves? Seems to me like you just lose some range for no good reason.
Jaxon Gray
>ywn be able to afford a complete fleet of moogerfoogers
Gavin Hall
>You're thinking of Albert King. He basically did everything "wrong" on purpose, and it worked out for him. Deconstructing's one of the best ways to come up with new stuff.
If you can solder you're fine.
Ethan Jackson
I think that's silly as hell. Nylon strings can sound great, and while they may be easier on the fingers that's totally irrelevant to whether or not the player is a pussy. It's just a totally different sound, and a totally different instrument.
Justin Ward
this just came in today
yay
Joseph Rogers
How much theory do you know? Just learning about scales and a little about chord building helped me get into songwriting a lot. I'm still not good at it by any means but I don't hate everything I make anymore
Chase Diaz
looks nice, happy NBD.
Chase Cruz
sounds nice too, it's my first fretless and the first bass I've actually gone out and purchased and not just obtained
