Bona Drag
Your Arsenal
Vauxhall And I

Nothing Appears To be Between the ears of The lazy sunbathers

Ok cool thanks

Well, I suppose my opinion is different but for what it's worth, here's my take album-by-album.
Viva Hate - an album everyone recommends, but at the time it came out, it really turned me off to Morrissey because it was the first record I ever heard with his voice where I didn't adore every track. I did, however, become a bigger fan of Stephen Street, who produced it. VH was a sort of watershed moment for me because without Marr, it became clear who did what (and who needed who). VH didn't show me the brilliance of Morrissey, it showed me the brilliance of Stephen Street. With time and a friend named Jonathan, the record grew on me as it began to mean something important to both of us. I consider some of the tracks essential material, but not the album as a whole.

Kill Uncle - Again, more of the same. Some disappointment as well. A few of the tracks on it I love, others I don't. However, this is a very important transition album because he stops being The Smiths and starts showing more of his personality. The record is somewhat unconventional and I didn't much care for his band at the time. Morrissey and I are at an impasse because "Tony The Pony" is my favourite solo track of his and he detests it. This is a bridge album from old to new, and also foreshadowing for the future. He finds his "take" on life, but not his band.

Your Arsenal - I liken this to Morrissey's coming out party and finding his love, which is his band. So this album is really important, but also extremely good. I remember at the time how genuinely excited people were who had heard it and when tracks started to leak. What you get is pure, unfiltered Morrissey finally, you get his new sound with White/Boorer and he gets to work with Mick Ronson and YA is his swan song as he died 2 years later. This is also really important because it stands to reason Morrissey would have continued working with him and drawing on Ronson's knowledge. I think YA is one of the best albums he ever did because he allowed people to make him better and it's clear he gave up a measure of control willingly and it shows. It puts the prior records to shame. This was the first "Smiths album" for me where I loved every track.

Vauxhall and I - My favourite Moz record. This is very interesting because he gets Steve Lillywhite to produce it. This is his second record in a row where he's got a legendary genius producing him and he's got a band with two incredible songwriters. Boz is an amazing arranger and it shows. White, of course is a pop hitmaking machine - he's written for Madonna, Chris Brown and Rihanna. He knows pop music. I like this record because for me this is where it all comes together. You've got a producer who can speak through the band, a band who can write and Morrissey being Morrissey. These are the best songs he has ever written. I don't know quite what all of the songs are really about, but I know he's telling me something important and with meaning.

Southpaw Grammar - Which is why this is my 2nd favourite Morrissey record and the beginning of the end for me. He never will get back to this point again. The way I describe this record is the B-sides from Vauxhall and I. At this point, Moz, Boz, and the Whites are on a roll. They got right back into it and cranked this out. I like this because it's not the same sort of "pop", but everything real that was left over. I truly believe that in the final analysis years from now, this and Vauxhall will be considered his finest work. It wasn't what people expected. It doesn't mean it wasn't brilliant.

Now I'm gonna sort of stop here.

I have him as my lock screen but I'm always worried the wrong person will see.

This has been my background for a few years.

Thanks for the writeup

Yeah this is has been my wallpaper for about 4 years.

Forgot to include the picture

No problem i could talk about Moz all day.

This is also my favorite Moz album I never heard anyone talk about it though

I think most people would say it's their favorite

Question is Morrissey actually good are is it a /mu. meme

Both, like most things on here.

Ah ok.

Why are there so many Morrissey threads.

...

In my opinion, his best three albums are Vauxhall and I, Viva Hate and Your Arsenal. Each has a very distinctive style and sound. However I think his most accessible album is You Are The Quarry, which has more of a typical modern-rock sound.
