Dave Grohl

I had this thing where I was listening to Nico, and it's better music than the highly trained jazz players album I listened to after

Maybe that is the difference between talent and skill

Ray Davies

coldplay

not ironically, just listen to lovers in japan and you will understand

damn...

Something like that always reminds me of that Behold the Arctopus video with the guitarist and bassist that sounds like absolute shit. It's clear that they've practiced a lot and honed their skills, but the music sounds like absolute crap. It's about what you do with it.

You have a dude like Malakian who can seriously play his instrument and write really well, but he almost never solos and really stays within his own niche. I've always been curious as to what he could pull off in a more unhinged setting.

No

That difference is songwriting.
Nico had Lou Reed writing for her. The jazzbos only had a bunch of no name jazz musicians. And songwriting skills aren't generally a strength of legendary improvisationalists-their whole lives have been dedicated to taking existing structures and elaborating on them, not creating new things ex nihilo.

Why live?

It is the difference between talent and skill

Nico has a talent whereby she can communicate life eruditely. The jazzbos as you put it have skill but small talent of social dissertation through music.

This... Some of his drum and acoustic guitar work is actually pretty good

reed only wrote the stuff on VU&N and a bit of Chelsea Girl. Marble Index, Desertshore and The End are all her essentially

Serj Tankian
I'd say James Hetflied can do more than he has done with Metallica, mainly in other genres outside of metal
David Draiman
a shitload of guitarrists, bassists and drummers that are hired by big pop stars
Los Tigres del norte

What the fuck happened?

Same as it ever was

kept getting bombed, what about you?

I think his vocal capabilities are stunted with Disturbed, not that he is a bad vocalist (IMO),but I could see him doing very good and exploiting his abilities if he had some side projects of a genre different than what Disturbed does pretty much the same that I thinks happens with Hetfield, I feel he needs to get out of metal a little

>Hetfield

Totally, user. There's a handful of videos of Metallica rehearsing when he just rips into a crazy solo. He's a great songwriter too.

agreed the Kinks really could have been more than just another 60's band

I've seen his bass playing, couldn't agree more

I prefer Disturbed's cover of sound of silence over the original. Draiman can definitely do better.
