Oh I see! Thanks a lot. Does that mean that people rely on Sup Forums to discover new composers, soloists, and quartets? >Artemis
I saw them live a little less than a decade ago, I recognized they were the best quartet I've seen live, but I didn't realize they were some of the best alive.
Easton Anderson
People disagree more often than they agree on /classical/, mostly for the fuck of it, so you'll have to be the judge of recs.
god damnit why did you have to put chopin on team with that fucking dwarf from game of thrones
Joseph Garcia
Anyone know of modern bands which have the same style to late Scriabin (Roslavets, Feinberg, Sabaneyev, Blet, etc)? Kind of want to branch out to newer music and I've explored enough of classical.
Also Florent Schmitt is the best.
William Roberts
(OP) >Post music played with instruments it wasn't written for. Die Kunst der Fuge
what's classical's equivalent of taking satisfying fat ogre shit?
Sebastian Thomas
Nah I don't mean composers I mean bands. Like if some rock group adopt a mystic style to their music. Both of them are great especially Obukhov's prieres, thanks for reccing some stuff none the less!
Nicholas Parker
Make a chart with your top obscure recs
Benjamin Baker
recced you stuff in the other thread but also try Szymanowski's op 1 and 4, Bax's sonatas, Lourie's preludes, Eller's preludes, Medins' preludes set (amazing) and maybe some by Kabalevsky, Kayarev, Adigezalov or Skerjanc.
Also check out Amirov's concerto on arabian themes
Bortkiewicz would also be just who you're looking for. Dripping with lush romanticism. Try his elegy
Dominic Ross
thanks again user, i'm already listening fast, i wrote down your recs since so many spread pieces and composers are hard to find in an evening
Dominic Kelly
Florent Schmitt (like Ravel mixed with Scriabin. Amazing late piano works: Ombres, crepuscules, symphonie concertante) Emmanuel's 6 sonatines are masterpieces Frank Bridge sonata and earlier accessible stuff Ropartz prelude marine et chanson Karayev's preludes Sabaneyev's piano output Roslavets Feinberg sonatas Vladigerov's autumn elegy Mariotte's impressions urbains and other piano works Pierre octave ferroud's piano output (incredibly unique) Mosolov's sonatas Hure's masterful quintet Pasternak's sonata Griffes' tone poems and roman sketches Koechlin's paysages et marines Stanchinsky's entire output Decaux's one and only masterpiece clairs de lune William Baines entire output Erwin Schulhoff Ernest Pingoud's orchestral works (like those of late scriabin) ernest fanelli's symphonic tableux
bit of a long list desu could have thinned it down
Tyler Gutierrez
is das lied von der erde the most emotional orchestral work ever written
There's a few select channels with amazing catalogues eg olla-vogala, fyrexianoff, hexameron (closed and no longer up), Medtnaculus, etc.
Olla is into music of all sorts and has a great selection of everything. lots of good obscure stuff Fyre has all sorts of music from Medins to far more modern soviet composers. Mostly if not all piano related hexameron was the best but now hes gone :( medt reuploaded some of hexamerons best and has lots of obscure piano rep from late romantics onwards (but lots of russian romantics, impressionists and scriabinesque composers)
Use them as springboards to find more music you like. I use spotify in conjunction with lastfm (lol) myself and have never run into trouble with finding music. Sometimes wikipedia can help too like reading up on the mighty handful or Belyayev circle
>underrating Past_notes >underrating Bartje Bartmans >underrating Rique Borges Also what happened to hexameron? I lost all my alkan videos when he got closed.
Michael Turner
Yeah can't forget bartje, but for what he was looking for I didn't think those were the best to recommend
While we're listing off channels which are still active: theWelleszcompany and his other channels ashish xiangyi kumar george n gianopoulos kuhlaudilfeng cmaj7 paul barton on top of the damavand forever huakinthoi Sihyeon Choe paco m and of course collectioncb who is probably the best desu
Matthew Williams
UnsungMasterworks is pretty good too is you like Romantic memes.
Nathan Harris
debussy is very niche, cannot compete against giant duo bach/beethoven. Even with chopin's god status
Gabriel Bell
chopin was voted the most popular among plebs on the last thread, which is a massive advantage
You're killing classical with that retarded plebshit, stop
Adam Sanders
Oh yeah and daily reminder that Bach's music is a virtual compendium of the seven deadly sins and that he is currently roasting in Hell on account of pride alone, as are all bogbillies.
Charles Thompson
including prokofiev, due to his honorary status?
Brayden Gutierrez
>4 classical threads in a row have reached 300+ comments after I trashed your bogposers >killing /classical/
Also, post a Bach piece more musical than that measly etude. Oh wait, you can't.
Jeremiah Rivera
What about Beethoven, then? You know, the one who influenced Chopin in the first place, and pretty much everyone from that era.
Cameron Sanchez
I don't know, what about him?
Christopher Watson
I really am starting to hate Bach. There can be no music discussion in this general whatsoever because Bachfags shit on anything that isn't Baroque. Every thread is 300+ replies of Bachfags arguing with everyone else. >DUDE CHOPIN SUX LMAO >DUDE 20th CENTURY SUX LMAO
Aside from the occasional Renaissance post this general is fucking shit. I might even go to say reddit is better and I've never even gone there. Friendly reminder that we shit on poly for disliking Chopin and you're all fucking retarded.
hey bro thats a really epic post. only connisuers like us can appreciate bach
Jaxson Hill
Nothing wrong with that in the least.
Grayson Brooks
dats it bach, non arians will never truly know.
No wonder chopin died a virgin when he can't even write a symphony for des volkes.
Andrew Brown
It's so crazy that they have a recording of Mozart playing his music
Jonathan Price
Don't worry about it, bro. They are newfags who believed in the 'Bach is the greatest' meme. Deep down they probably realize his primitive melodies can't compare/compete to the best Romantics, but since they know nothing about music, they can only shitpost to reassure themselves. It's sad, honestly. I pity them, really.
Dylan Johnson
Please don't reply to yourself, it's embarrassing.
Christian Robinson
who else thinkgs BACH IS THE BEST??
Oliver Allen
Way to prove his point.
Robert Ortiz
Uh-oh, the bog poster is off his meds again! He's going wild!
Easton Scott
upvote this post if u think tocata and fugue is the pinacle of music
Colton Mitchell
There, there. Calm down and go listen to the raindrop prelude.
Gabriel Cooper
why would i listen to anything without counterpoint
Isaac Morales
Hot meme
Brody Thompson
Just fuck my whole life up family.
Easton Fisher
how many layers of counterpoint are u operating under?
ONE BAJILLION MY MAN
he died by listening to the art of fugue too much
Carter Evans
Which performance/recording of the Notre Dame mass do you think Machaut would have been most happy with?
Andrew Cox
I always felt this is played far too slow for a listener to appreciate natural phenomenon like leading notes and resolutions. It's like ambient.
Jayden White
also, speaking of baroque, Vivaldi, Couperin, Froberger> Bach
Jaxson Torres
>he died by listening to the art of fugue too much and many a French musician died of alcoholism. that's the main difference between French and German pianism
