AOTY Thread

Help me out, folks. I haven't heard much of the good music from this year. Just this album.

desu 2016 has sucked so far b/c there's hardly been anything memorable and/or good

Blackstar is my AOTY, followed by AMSP then Varmints by Anna Meredith, but I can't really think of much else that I really enjoyed

The Glowing Man was decent, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as To Be Kind

untitled unmastered had Untitled 8 and that one with Thundercat, but on the whole it's nowhere near as good as Kendrick's last two

Anohni's one was decent, I guess, same with Parquet Courts

the new ones by James Blake, Kanye, Death Grips, Anderson .Paak, Deakin and the Avalanches were boringly-average-to-bad all told

idk, 2016 sucks

2016 hasn't been bad, you just need to listen to more music that isn't on pitchfork

Rec it to us then nigger

Fucking shit man

Listen to more music

It's not good enough to just say listen to more. I have. WHAT from this year has been good??

Top 10 of the year so far:

1. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
2. David Bowie - Blackstar
3. Paul Simon - Stranger to Stranger
4. Swans - The Glowing Man
5. The Avalanches - Wildflower
6. Deakin - Sleep Cycle
7. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
8. Black Mountain - IV
9. Parquet Courts - Human Performance
10. Dälek - Asphalt for Eden

Oranssi Pazuzu is somewhere in the 11-15 range.

So far, this is shaping up to be the 3rd best year of the decade thus far, behind 2011 and 2012.

I doubt anything will top AMSP by year's end. That album is literally flawless.

Huh. I for some reason hate AMSP. Really don't see anything in it

i mostly stick to bandcamp threads but you should hear the new Peaches Davenport album

also check out the new even oxen

They came back down to earth in the most glorious way possible. Every texture on that album is just pristine. It's the most atmospheric thing they've ever made, and there's no way a Radiohead album with that description WASN'T going to be a masterpiece.

>I read pitchfork

Thank you for recs

my pleasure, i hope you enjoy them as much as I did

Went with Even Oxen first. Kinda surprised some good Christian Lo-Fi Indie is out there. This is good, man.

yeah the sad thing is that a lot of great albums are overlooked every year due to a few publications having such an influential grip on music culture. it's cool you like it though, these are just bandcamp artists too, no telling what you'll find if you keep searching for more professional ones.

>listening to ormemessi pazuzu

>oranssi memezuzu

Do you always let online music magazines tell you what to listen to?

nice to see Dalek getting some attention for their new one

this and still brazy, although

also in my opinion, Periphery's new album isn't looking that bad, definitely not as good as previous works.

Finally got my chart updated

its super boring imo

charging the void is by far track of the year so far

>the way charging the void and recharging the void both end on the exact same riff
god fucking damn why is this album so fucking good?

This is my top 9 (not in any order), but have only listened to around 25 2016 albums. Recs are welcome

Work in progress obviously, some placeholders there.

Spotlights - Tidals
Sojourner - Empires of Ash

really been digging these two.

You got Vixit in FLAC? Even What only has it in 320. I don't know if I prefer that one or Clonic Earth.

No love for Gensho?

I'm a fan of both Boris and Merzbow but this one kinda left me cold. Didn't make the cut, unfortunately.

the paul simon record is underrated man. lotta good ones on there. ive listened to "wristband" wayy too many times

nah I've just got the 320, but I prefer Vixit because of the musique concrete feel. That's not to say Clonic Earth isn't damn good

I mean it sucks that the Boris side is just re-recordings of older songs (which sound great imo), but the Merzbow side is top-tier OC noise.

I gotta agree with you there all around.

also Clonic Earth seems to be following the trend of Roly Porter and Paul Jebanasam of that spooky spacey sound which is cool but can get a little samey. Plus the first track of Vixit mentions Luigi Russolo who was the noise OG

I loved it, but I hate the fact that I have to play both records at the same time.

You actually don't have to, they're both great standalone albums.

Sound of Ceres- Nostalgia for Infinity
