Techno is popular in any underground dance music scene. Its very popular in Toronto after hours and some smaller festivals and pop up parties. As well as in Europe ( think Germany - berghain), and some parts of the USA (Detroit).
Its very minimal music that SLAMS heavy. Been into the scene for around 10 years and still going strong and very popular in the underground .
Tech house is also amazing. I prefer it more than techno actually . the groove is unreal
