Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you've been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, see GFR's tourney unfold, conclude that Jangle's Thrift Tourney was a spook, talk about Legends of the Hidden Temple and why 90's Nickelodeon game shows were the best, and just let the good times flow.
finished Music of Nat Pwe. never really listened to Burmese folk music before so I was a little culture shocked, but i liked what i heard! my fav track had to be Mother Jhan Who Curses People. 8/10
Listening to Daemonia Nymphe now.

>増田順一 – Pokémon Gold and Silver
3000th RYM rating!!
So obviously I'm going to be a bit biased here. Pokémon Silver was the first video game I ever played if I'm recalling correctly. And though I probably have emotional attachment to only a handful of video games, this one extends much deeper than pure nostalgia. This is one of the first games I can remember with a genuine-feeling atmosphere. The folklore, the adventure, and feeling of mystery and exploration in segments like the Tin Tower, Whirl Islands, and the Ruins of Alph. All of those elements I just mentioned and more are, of course, present here in this bootleg soundtrack.
While I never really considered the soundtrack to be one of the more important elements of the game while I was playing it as a kid, I really admire and respect what the programmers did here. Not only did they create a bunch of kick-ass tunes here that total nearly two hours, but it also sets the perfect atmosphere for levels. From the little I could find out about what a Gameboy Color programmer would have to do in order to produce sound at all due to technical limitations makes it even more mind-blowing that such a thing like this exists. From what I can understand, there were really only three voices available, two usually being square waves for the notes, and a noise wave for the drum sounds. I noticed that in a few of these tracks like “Trainer Challenge Theme 4”, more voices are achieved, but it’s because the programmers actually switch the voices back and forth between different wave forms very fast, creating the illusion of more instruments. Crazy.
nil for the entire thing, can't be on the Algorithm chart, which has like 6 albums left so EH NB I will be making another one, so if you want to raid my RYM recs go ahead while you have the opportunity

Can’t say if my love for this is mostly nostalgia, but I think at least a very large chunk is the variation this presents over nearly two hours and just some fantastic tunes. Let’s call it half and half, shall we? Perhaps not the best video game soundtrack ever (probably SH 2 or Mother 3) but this is probably my favorite of this era.
I really doubt you would enjoy this at all unless you played Pokémon as a kid, but if you’re a fan of genuine-sounding chiptune, this is a must.

Some of my favs (seriously, check some of these out if you want some great chiptune tracks):
hmmmmm ok pick one of these: chippendale & greg saunier (it's literally just 2 guys drumming really well, nothing else) chippendale, gustafson, pupillo- melt (wank music) insect warfare- noise grind power death EP (really fast drumming, noise, and screaming)
Benjamin Edwards

If you mean good as in "accurately reflects the user's musical tastes" then mine's pretty ok. rateyourmusic.com/~turtlesforbreakfast If you mean good as in the /rym/ definition, nobody outside /rym/ and a handful of powerusers has a "good" rym.
Austin Robinson

Nice trips.
The Slints (sic) - The Untitled
Xavier White
alrighty
The Doldrums - Acupuncture This was pretty great, a (I'm beginning to think quite common) mix of Post-rock, Kreautrock and Ambient, it has a song mentioning mao on it and it's the best on the album they're basically a glorified Stereolab rip-off but they do it well
The Beatles - White Album Holy shit, why do you dislike this album, shit's so consistently great, impressive for a double album. It's easily as good as Sgt peppers, if not better, a little bit feelsier, a little bit rockier, a little bit bluesier, a little bit more avant garde, a bit hotter a bit cooler, fitter happier, more productive yeah, was good, Revolution 9 didn't take anything out of it for me it took a while to get around to it, think I may have to sit on this one
Chase Johnson
