This is raw and sloppy and that's its finest quality. Sounds like surf-rock to some degree. Not anything I'll be coming back to most likely, but still has a nice slashing power to it.

connorleary.bandcamp.com/album/propitiation

This little gem was in yesterday's thread and went completely ignored. I ended up listening to the entire album last night. I left some positive remarks but I don't think anyone saw them so I want to point out that this is a beautiful effort full of gorgeous, sunny harmonies, baroque arrangements (especially love the wonderful use of church bells), and carefully chosen chord progressions. Please give this guy some of your time, any of you Zombies, Beach Boys, Kinks, Love, Byrds fans.

Nice subtle chord progressions (and GREAT album covers on your page, by the way) but I would hope the production would sound a little warmer in the future.

Rust and coal was great

I think that is an issue too. Too many people in these threads try to turn it into a hug box so their music isn't bashed either. I always try and leave a compliment and a complaint. I rarely have anyone reply to feedback or give any feedback in return and that shit is so dumb.

Semi-related: I remember a few months ago a guy popped in and gave really good feedback. I dont think he was a regular BC poster because it was all brutally honest and everyone got a turn. One guy got super upset that his music was shit on, especially the mastering.

hey thank you, i apperciate it, and what do you mean more layered? for something i can keep in my mind when i record

Glad you enjoyed the song, I felt weird about adding the trap hi-hats but the song is so old so I had to add weird shit to keep me from getting bored with it.

I remember that. Support is important, but your compliment/critique technique is something I try to do as well when I give feedback.

From

>Too many people in these threads try to turn it into a hug box so their music isn't bashed either.
THIS, we need actual honest feedback in these threads, if you legitimately enjoy dont just say 'rec' or 'this is good', at least mention one or two things that you like about it, and if you don't like it, don't just say 'this is shit', make some constructive criticism even if it's something like 'the mastering is bad'.

in fact i'm gonna do it with a few people here

>Seance in 11 days
rip seance when meme
i wasn't a fan of Grow House but that's because i hate anything that has to do with shoegaze, it's just not my thing at all, but the music is very well done imo. that and the meme buzz makes me excited for Seance even though i probably won't like it.

the new demo was nice, pretty much identical to the stuff from the Dear Laika EP. The song demos you're putting out are nice, but I really hope you stop shitting them out and make another EP [or even LP] sometime soon.

nice devil trips, i recommend you put it up for free if you're just starting out and don't have much of a fanbase, at this point making fans and getting buzz is WAY more important than making profit. once you have like about 50+ loyal fans that listen to your music (and some that have donated, of course) you should put up your EPs/albums for about $3-$4, I'd say that's the sweet spot, because $5 or more is quite a bit and putting it up for too low [$1 or $2] is a dumb idea because people won't mind paying an extra dollar or two for your music.

>i know I'll get no replies

Kpop needs to leave

If you want to blow people away with noise music it has to be heavy and kinda overwhelming. Try to build a wall of sound, but don't go full-on shoegaze HNW because that's boring.

Depends on how much time, work and money you put into your music and gear. Also how popular you are.
I think if recording, mixing and mastering costed you actual money (because someone professional helped you) I think it's OK to demand money for your music.
I'm planning to make physical copies of some of my albums, that will be the first time I'll ask money for my music.

Sup guys, I just released another album

This is a conceptual synthwave/vaporwave album based on videogame consoles (and a couple of games) from the old Segas, the N64 and the Gameboy all the way up to the Wii and the Xbox 360.

I made this as a tribute to my childhood, and for all the nostalgic folks out there to enjoy. I hope you like it.

DL here. Blunt criticism, but I take it. I actually completed a track today which I will NOT be releasing before the LP it's part of is released too.
Also, I dispute your claims that it sounds identical to the EP material. Clearly by the same artist, yes, but not identical.
I am attempting to develop my style though, have no fear.
Also, looking forward to your album!

>I dispute your claims that it sounds identical to the EP material.
i didn't mean it literally, although i should have clarified. meant that the same elements from the EP are at play. but also i haven't heard the ep in a while so maybe the problem is me.

pretty amped for the LP, didn't know you were making one, i'm interested to see where your style will go.

Feedback/criticism is still all superficial. It's only helpful if the artist is looking for help. Often times, we're content with what we have, regardless of poor mastering and what not.

The most important thing to keep tabs on:
>are people listening to my music fully?
>are they downloading my music?
>am I promoting my music to the correct audience besides Sup Forums?

It's these questions that ultimately say the most about your art. Doesn't matter how much feedback you get, if people don't like it you'll see the evidence by lengthy red play bars and no downloads for weeks on end.

>Doesn't matter how much feedback you get, if people don't like it you'll see the evidence by lengthy red play bars and no downloads for weeks on end.
this, it irks me how yellow this is, like everyone just listens for 30 seconds and drops out. even if i dont like the song i leave it playing till the end just to give that person a green play desu

>am I promoting my music to the correct audience besides Sup Forums?
for me, Sup Forums is kind of the only audience that has given me a decent amount of attention. i've tried local experimental/indie groups on facebook but only got 8 plays, and there really isn't any other big place for music discussion outside of rym and last.fm, but you can't really shill in those places.

>, if people don't like it you'll see the evidence by lengthy red play bars and no downloads for weeks on end.
and because of a lack of feedback, you wont know why
I'll gladly take any feedback anyone could give me, as should anybody in the ameture scene like this.

>for me, Sup Forums is kind of the only audience that has given me a decent amount of attention. i've tried local experimental/indie groups on facebook but only got 8 plays, and there really isn't any other big place for music discussion outside of rym and last.fm, but you can't really shill in those places.

THIS

I would do live shows/open mic nights/amateur hours but my music is so heavily concocted in the studio that it's pretty much a ridiculous concept

>Often times, we're content with what we have, regardless of poor mastering and what not.

Agreeing with Based Bear as well. Some criticism I definitely take note of, but other times it seems more like a difference in taste. And I never critique someone on these threads for something like "poor mastering" because come on now, this is all mostly amateur DIY homemade bedroom shenanigans.

On a semi-related note, does anyone have a guess as to how many downloads is "pretty good"? I've been shilling here for roughly four weeks and have 13 full album downloads and 1 EP download.

corvoandthecorvettes.bandcamp.com/

>folky acoustic bullshit
>I sing sometimes too

why can't we all just be happy guys

This was great m8. Loved how rootsy and organic your stuff sounds (though it was nice to see that you weren't afraid to get pretty weird with it), and I'm always a sucker for a good take on In The The Pines.

already really like these fellas:

Hey Yamir, is this your all-time stats or something else?

>I would do live shows/open mic nights/amateur hours but my music is so heavily concocted in the studio that it's pretty much a ridiculous concept

this is another problem with a lot of the musicians here, they rely a lot in the studio and it's not easy to recreate all of the sounds we make live on stage. most of the artists here are acoustic guitars/rock bands so they could definitely take advantage of open mics but some of us can't.

>I've been shilling here for roughly four weeks and have 13 full album downloads and 1 EP download.
seems pretty standard, i've been here for about 5 months now and have 58 downloads,

all time stats

You're right, feedback is actually very crucial. I just didn't want so many to get hung up on that aspect, you know? Often times we measure our success based on what others say when decades from now, who knows, you might just end up the ignored gem of a Cantonese incense burning image board.

So I'd rather encourage everyone to focus more on building up what's going right with their music and cultivating that rather than meeting everyone's whims and little pet peeves.

You need to find a way to make it work man. Either strip your studio album down or start working on an album that you can replicate in a live setting. Live shows are incredibly underrated to the average musician because people are not only exposed to your music fully but the chance to network is invaluable

Btw these aren't bad stats. You're just a third of the way in difference.
