And then this year's will probs be Blackstar. I had such high hopes for Wildflower but it's come in at like third or fourth for me.

2016 aoty might change to Jessy Lanza - Oh No

Splazsh
Aesthethica
The Money Store
R Plus Seven
To Be Kind
Mutant

dunno about this year yet, maybe Human Story 3, maybe AMSP

2010: Bastard Noise - Red List/Culture of Monsters
youtube.com/watch?v=wRqHWb2XuYQ
2011: Absu - Abzu
2012: Holy Moses - Power of Now
2013: Deafheaven - Sunbather
2014: Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear
2015: of Montreal - Aureate Gloom
2016: Dream Theater - The Astonishing

i liked everything else matters too. what did you think of grandfeathered? the production was a big turn off for me personally, and the songwriting felt flat.
could you explain to me the appeal of these new puritans? i never heard anything particularly ear catching in their music, but maybe i was looking in the wrong places.
blackstar would be my aoty too if every song was as good as the title track

I thought grandfeathered definitely delivered but it wasn't as exciting as the previous one which was compounded by the best song being just a re-release from last years 10"

2010: High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
2011: Boris - New Album
2012: Om - Advaitic Songs
2013: Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
2014: Boris - Noise
2015: Ufomammut - Ecate
2016: Causa Sui - Return to Sky

2014 was the best year in a long time, I can't even narrow it down from all the 7+ albums.

Meanwhile I haven't heard anything from this year that's grabbed me, other than The Glowing Man

fixed

I dunno man, Hidden was kinda my first 'experimental' album (I was maybe 14/15) so it really blew my mind at the time. I liked the mixture of percussion, orchestration and foley (sharpening swords, breaking glass, a melon being smashed). It wasn't really like anything I had heard before. I was also doing a lot of percussion stuff at the time and percussion music tends to be pretty out there anyway, so the two gelled really well.

Field of Reeds was sort of the same thing just with a little more subtlety. It's not an album I listen to often desu, just because it's really slow and contemplative. But whenever I do listen to it, I remember how much I like it. I don't enjoy it in the same way that I enjoy other music just because it's not so 'immediate' if you know what I mean. You've got to approach it in a different way.

I just think that a lot of the stuff they do is kinda cool. I get why some people wouldn't like the though, either because they're too left-field for plebs, or a little too 'babby's first experimental' for Sup Forumstants.

yea, they just hit an odd little middle ground that left me cold when i listened last time. ill try again though, thanks user.

Judging by your chart tho you seem to have more patrish taste than me so that might be it too.

2010: Ilbeltz - Helduiak Buztanetio Moteil
2011: Phideaux - Snowtorch
2012: Hail Spirit Noir - Pneuma
2013: Rudra - Rta
2014: Plank - Hivemind
2015: The Grand Astoria - Curse of the Ninth
2016: Vektor - Terminal Redux

eh probably not, i just have a personal preference for abstraction and atmosphere over defined structure and melody, which obviously leads down a different musical path. not better or worse, just different.
tell me about The Grand Astoria

...

2010: Killing Joke - Absolute Dissent
2011: Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
2012: iamamiwhoami - Kin
2013: SPC ECO - Sirens & Satellites
2014: Cheatahs - s/t
2015: Tom Ellard - Rhine
I haven't made up my mind for 2016

nice list, though what is that 2010 album?

2010: Deathspell Omega - Paracletus
2011: A Winged Victory for the Sullen - A Winged Victory for the Sullen

2014: Robert Rich - Perpetual - A Somnium Continuum
2015: Ad Nauseam - Nihil Quam Vacuitas Ordinatum Est
2016: Swans - The Glowing Man

High Violet was better in my opinion.
