After a certain point, a medium stops being about expression and starts being a scene where your success is tied to knowing the right people, or at the very least not pissing them off. This incestuousness and dogmatism actually becomes more pronounced the further from the mainstream you get.
Art in general is the domain of mincing self-important faggots who police opinions. Not because those with other ideologies lack creativity. Art isn't about creativity anyway. It's about being an "art person." Right-wingers don't want to be "art people."

Most popular musicians have never support a labor union, have never read key socialist texts like Capital or Conquest of Bread, have never spoke out against intellectual property laws, have never protested neoliberal globalization, and have absolutely no understanding of the military-industrial complex or US imperialism.

Then why is it that mainstream music, a mass produced product of capitalism that serves the bourgeois by placating the masses is so lacking in artistry? It is because truly original music (be it rap or punk, before capitalism turned them into a product, or music impossible to commercialise, be it free jazz or avant-garde classical) is necessarily subversive and transgressive by nature of its novelty.
