prog metal

There is no such thing as a "good genre" or a "bad genre", only good artists and bad artists. That being said, the genre I'd have to say has the greatest ratio of bad artists to good artists is crunkcore.

JK-Pop

Aint no bad genres son
Just bad music

classical

Goregrind

Scene emo circa 2005
Metalcore circa 2007

meme rap

Bachata, a genre that only spawns shit.

minimal synth
memphis rap
slowcore

i really liked their first album, and suicide season. kinda went downhill after that

djent

Crunkcore, without a doubt.

Pop punk - the empitome of edgy 13 year old girl music

>slowcore

Triple tie between

kill yourself fantono dick rider

Crunkcore or Bro-country

Progressive Dreamfunk

harsh noise

at least those usually have a catchy tune or some musicianship to them

hair metal

Slowcore, and especially minimal synth are great you mong
I wasn't aware either of those were genres that could generate an active hatred

Nobody ever mentions christian rock in these threads.

That, and this contemporary "indie" music. Nothing is more pretentious than a 2015-2016 indie band.

(You)
I'm feeling generous

All metal
All prog
Most noise rock
Most folk/country rock
Most post-punk
Like 50% of rock is unlistenably bad desu
It's the genre with the highest shit-to-good-stuff ratio

Christian rock isn't a real genre, it's just other genres of rock music with strong christian themes in their lyrics.

>That, and this contemporary "indie" music. Nothing is more pretentious than a 2015-2016 indie band.
This
Indie rock is complete bullshit. It's nearing it's end tho and people are getting disinterested in it

screamo, or hardcore or post hardcore or whatever its called. Bands like asking alexandria, escape the fate, of mice and men, alesena, and all that stupid shit. Id rather listen to ariana grande then that shit, and i cant fucking stand ariana grandes music, its fucking awful.

u wot

probably speedcore or hardstyle

fight me nigga

>le noise is not music and it's objectively bad meme!

You're a fucking idiot. Kys.

bachata or reggaeton

>le noise is good because...for reasons meme

it's a stale, unimaginative genre, it's only quality is that it might have been challenging norms at some point, but that time is long gone and leaves behind basically nothing

>All Metal
>All Prog
>Most noise rock
>most folk/country rock
>most post-punk
>50% of rock is unlistenable
holy hell, we'd be friends.

most of them are damn stale but let's be real, most of the reason you would bash them is because it's been cool to do that

for home listening definitely, and i've never been to a club that played stuff like that so i couldn't say, but i'm still not writing them off because of this

Basically these

>I wasn't aware either of those were genres that could generate an active hatred

why wouldn't they?

what would a genre even have to do or be to generate that, and are those necessarily undesirable things if we were to take a more self-critical look?

seriously i'd be interested in turning that idea into the next Sup Forums microgenre, mission statement being the investigation of "cringe" or whatever is easily dismissed by turning all of those qualities up to the nth degree

reggae

let's be honest here. Rap is shit. I can't day that there are not any songs of the genre I like but the genre as a whole sucks.
Of course I realize that its most likely just isn't for me but i still feel that its just plain shitty music.

Black Metal is terrible in all aspects

EDM. Completely emotionless music for people who like jumping and doing hard drums. One thing i can't stand

music that isn't made just for basement dwellers and doesn't fetishize emotional expression, more like

I just don't see how monotonous beats and the same formula for every song is remotely interesting

well yeah if you've only listened to club music on your desk, of course you're doing it wrong. it is tailor made for a certain envoirment. that is not a pitfall of it

that's what people keep telling me. Not really wanting to waste a few bucks to see if it lives up to its hype. I think the fans would probably be more than enough for me

>it's unchallenging nowadays because I see it that way
>therefore is bad

Nice counterargument there bud.

>slowcore
just why

none of those bands are even screamo lmao

i swear, emo and screamo are some of the most misunderstood subgenres in music

get back to me when you listen to Orchid and Cap'n Jazz

This is all correct

it's not a counterargument, you didn't present me anything to counter with your first post

it is also unchallenging because little to no thought runs into composing or performing it

explain to me me, how exactly are those bands you listed > the ones he listed

i never liked anything i heard from it, at all. that, and it's too self-limiting by design, for my taste

drone metal is awful too

oh and it glorifies depression and weakness

Nu Metal

Dashboard, JamisonParker, Silverstein, Pre-prog Coheed were all amazing emo bands from back then. You also leave out The Format, Bright Eyes were pretty emo, From First to Last were as high energy and edgy as possible but they kicked ass back then, Finch, Senses Fail. Etc

I could agree with the metalcore though

Country

To all of you dissing metalcore and pop punk, they're great when put together. See: A Day to Remember. pic related

i meant to post this one, but that one works too

country is better than metalcore and pop punk

Atleast country gives me some music to drink to

adtr blows it all out of the water

pop rap

Nicki Manage and drake and shit
undisputed

Midwest emo

Midwest emo has got to be the most creatively bankrupt genre with the absolute shittiest lyrics that are justified with "it's ironic and self-aware XDDD"

Country's a pretty wide-reaching genre m8. If you can't get feels from The Carter Family or Hank Sr you don't belong on a music board.

it's all shit compared to adtr
see here:

>"it's ironic and self-aware XDDD"
who says that though?

your just not listening to the right artists, you probably listened to chief keef or some shit. Listen to old wiz, jcole, kendrick lamar and those niggas

How are people getting disinterested? And what do you predict would be the next trend of music?

/thread

>people are getting disinterested in it
Car Seat Headrest, PJ Harvey, DIIV, Mitski and Paul Simon have all had relatively popular albums this year, I don't think Indie Rock is dying any time soon.

most of these are metalcore, which is garbage, but there are good hardcore(black flag, ANGEL DU$T, etc) good post-hardcore(Touche Amore, La DIspute, mewithoutYOU, etc) and screamo (circle takes the square, ceiling walker, etc) bands out there if you broaden your horizons

actually one of the few good metal genres
i tend to agree with the sentiment that there are good and bad artists and not good or bad genres, but since a genre is just a grouping of some characteristics there absolutely are some cancerous genres. crunkcore is definitly one of them
metalcore is shit
in general i would agree that djent is shit but there are some good artists who have djent elements in their music like plini
its not a good genre but its not total shit either
oh yes the indie in the last few years has gotten really fucking bad. but its hard to call all of it shit
nope
its simple shitty music but i think it serves a purpose
you really don't see how cap'n jazz is different from asking alexandria?
if you were to actually play an instrument you'd realize how retarded you are calling american football creatively bankrupt

my nomination goes to free jazz. pretentious bullshit wankery to the max. its just breaking the rules for the sake of breaking the rules. other musicians break the rules because they have a reason to. they find something they think sounds good and make up their own rules for it. free jazz is just random bulllshit that accomplishes nothing. it wants to inspire but is really doesnt do shit.

I like everything excluding their most recent release. Sempiternal was great.

Please kill yourself.

EDM is too wide of a term now for you to hate everything that it covers unless you legitimately feell that way. if you want emotion, listen to some good future bass.

Crust-punk is unlistenable

To expand on that sort of folk-punk thing; every Johnny Hobo/Pat the Bunny wannabe has failed miserably.

>you really don't see how cap'n jazz is different from asking alexandria?
different yes
better or worse though? hard mode: don't mention the fanbase, CnJ's is certainly just as cancerous if not more

Grindcore
Porngrind

youre a huge faggot if you think that way. Just admit that emo is a good genre and that emo has easily changed music majorly.

Fucking pleb lmao

i'm edgy because after 21 years of being spat on and then told to just fucking deal with it, i've had enough?

that constitutes edginess in your opinion?

sounds like retribution to me. your misconstrued rhetoric is of no weight.

see, the danger with shitting on a person for their whole life is that at a certain point, said person stops fearing the shit. they've become so accustomed to it, that it becomes impossible to control them, and they won't cling to your societal imposed status-quos for fear of being shit on anymore, because said shit is all they know

don't understand yet? that's ok. just wait. wait, and in the meantime just keep shitting on people, and eventually you'll understand first-hand what i'm talking about, and what happens when a man is pushed to the brink

'nothing in the world is more dangerous than a desperate man'

why should i "admit"?
but you won't substantiate why you prefer midwest emo and screamo to modern post-hardcore, okay

...

I prefer Modern Emo and Screamo to Modern Post Hardcore because Post Hardcore is dead

Post Hardcore is literally the most dead genre there is. It sounds like pop garbage and it catters to redditfags who think theyre in the "times" literally 2005 had the best post hardcore bands but that died the moment that ADTR and PTV became popular. It is not the underground artistic genre it used to be. Midwest Emo and the emo revival redefined what it used to be, even though some Midwest Emo bands suck

Memphis rap is actually a decent hip hop subgenre

>the emo revival redefined what it used to be
okay, how is that not just as stale?
midwest emo popularized a guitar style somehow even more boring than by-the-number metalcore chugging, muh twinkle tapping

Noise music has some interesting qualities to it. It reminds me of splatter painting, in that it's not really structured but is very deliberate and actually takes quote a bit of skill to make it good.

Harsh noise is just fucking garbage and if you like it you should just kill yourself now.

>Harsh noise is just fucking garbage and if you like it you should just kill yourself now.

Spoken like a true pleb. Harsh noise is the patrician's evolution of noise. You'll get it one day.

if you ever play an instrument, you'd know that the guitars are fucking frustrating in AF or Empire! Empire!

>teen suicide is god

yeah so are the guitars in Dream Theater

harsh noise is the musical equivalent of throwing a bucket of paint on a canvas.

>scene music
>better than harsh noise
lmao just stop

Which makes it even more impressive when it's good.

>muh fanbase
if you've been to /noise/ btw, those fags are worse than any kind of scenie weenie

You would have a point if any of it was good.

>Merzbow
>Good
At least his album covers are cool

Calm down

Well, I mean, if you want to go down that road, there are no good or bad artists either, or music, just what people like and don't, but we're not here to debate subjectivity, that's no fun, we're here to shit on each and indie is complete fucking garbage. Music for effeminate, pitchfork quoting, pseudo-intellectual, poser arseholes.

>Music for effeminate, pitchfork quoting, pseudo-intellectual, poser arseholes.
and it's bound to not be well made thus?
