It's a damn shame no one wants to talk OP. I tried to start a /roots/ general last year around this time, with some links I couldn't get to work admittedly and it died early on. I still think that'd be the best way to go about a thread like this and get it to have a steady following.
Anyway, Waylon might be a generic pick but he's easily the most emotive country singer for my money. Everybody in the whole wide world needs to listen to Old Fiver and Dimers Like Me at least once in their life.
true. timing is everything with these threads. eh, better luck next time i guess. it does take time for a steady group of posters to form.
admittedly, i don't listen to a lot of waymore although i did get a chance to see him before he died. i have a lot more respect for him now that i know how instrumental he was in forming the Outlaw movement, which is about the only good thing happening in Country these days.
If you're not one of them already, you should check out these rymers. Pretty extensive knowledge of the genre.

Where do I start with country? I like the hipster shit like Sturgill Simpson and want more like that.
Sturgill Simpson's voice is really, really, really similar to Waylon Jennings'. Like similar enough that my dad, who's been a country fan for over half a century thought it was Jennings singing once.
